Kraiburg offers Turkish retreaders TSE-ECE 109 support

Kraiburg Austria recently offered Turkish retreaders information on the introduction of the TSE-ECE 109 regulation in an event organised by Tatko Otomotive Istanbul. The distributor invited 40 customers who are affected by the implementation of the Turkish tyre labelling requirement. The Turkish retreaders have been given just six months to meet the requirements. Tatko has already been certified as conforming to TSE-ECE 109 for its own retreading business for three years.

Dunlop launches the StreetSmart

Dunlop says it has completed its current touring segment offering with the introduction of the StreetSmart. This new range, which was introduced on 1 January, has been specifically designed to meet the fitment needs of classic bikes, targeting a market that is growing year-on-year.

‘False’ labels not officially applied – wholesaler

Following recent claims of label ‘falsification’ by Germany’s AutoBild, the Europe-based supplier of the tyre brand in question has commented on the issue. A statement released by Belgian wholesaler Deldo, whose Imperial private brand was singled out by AutoBild as being the first case of label falsification, indicates that the tyres involved were produced before 1 July 2012 and therefore were neither labeled by the Chinese manufacturer nor Deldo. The wholesaler believes the label found on the tyres may have been added by a tyre dealer in Germany.

Yokohama unveils drag-reducing ‘tyre fin’ technology

Achieving maximum aerodynamic efficiency is always good, right? Not necessarily so. Sometimes being a drag isn’t such a bad thing, as Yokohama Rubber has discovered. The Japanese manufacturer shares that it has developed a tyre that increases a car’s aerodynamic qualities – by making those of the tyres worse.

Nexen Europe appoints Joo Ho Song as president

Nexen Tyre Europe GmbH has appointed Joo Ho Song as its new president. Song has reportedly already started carrying out “a comprehensive package of measures, focusing on Nexen’s ambitious goals in Europe and implementing relevant strategies quickly.” The measures include increasing personnel at the European headquarters in Eschborn.

Organisational changes planned for Goodyear Dunlop’s ‘D-A-CH’ region

Goodyear Dunlop has announced organisational changes in its ‘German-speaking’ markets. As of 1 February 2013 changes will occur in the leadership structure of the so-called “D-A-CH cluster” (Germany, Austria and Switzerland cluster), the business formed at the start of 2012 from the three respective national operations. The tyre maker says a key element of this will involve the creation of an integrated consumer replacement segment sales and marketing organisation under the leadership of Frank Titz, who is currently director of the D-A-CH consumer replacement business. In his new role, Titz will coordinate the tyre maker’s entire sales and marketing activities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. As before, Titz will report to Dr. Rainer Landwehr, group managing director for the three countries.

2012 a challenging year for the CV sector, reports Conti

In a year end review, Continental Tyres’ Arthur Gregg used the word “challenging” to describe the UK and Ireland commercial vehicle tyre market. Yet at the same time he painted a positive picture of fleet operators adjusting to tough economic times and of a company that continues to develop and introduce new products in line with the many changes occurring in the market.

Conti opens Berlin public affairs office

Harry Rogasch is reporting to Berlin as head of Continental’s new Liaison Office for Public Affairs. The office opens for business in the new year and Rogasch’s responsibilities will include representing the legislative and regulatory interests of the company's Rubber and Automotive Groups and engaging in dialogue with political, administrative, and regulatory institutions in the German capital.

November sales show UK is Europe's second-largest car market

UK new car registrations rose 11.3 per cent to 149,191 units in November, on the back of increased private demand. The UK new car market has grown 5.4 per cent to 1,921,052 units during the January-November period, putting the full year market on track to be the best since 2008.

TWS opens logistics centre for key OEM customer

Recently Trelleborg Wheel Systems (TWS) inaugurated a new logistics centre Mönchengladbach, Germany. This new facility will supply its customer, Nacco Materials Handling, with industrial tyres on a just-in-time basis.

Metzeler returns as GS Trophy supplier; preparing for Karoo 3 launch

Metzeler has again served as sole tyre supplier to the BMW Motorrad GS Trophy, which ran in South America from 24 November to 2 December. The rally-raid is organised every two years by the German motorcycle maker to allow its best and most competent customers to test the off-road qualities of BMW bikes. After the first edition in Tunisia in 2008 and the second in South Africa in 2010, the “Two-wheeler specialist” was chosen by BMW as the ideal technical partner to take on the hard trials scheduled.

Hankook renews support for tuning safety initiative

Hankook is sponsoring the Tune It! Safe! initiative in Germany for the eighth consecutive year. For 2013 the tyre maker will again serve as main sponsor for the safe and legal car tuning campaign, an initiative that enjoys the support of the German Association of Automotive Tuners (VDAT) under the patronage of the German Federal Transport Minister. At the start of the Essen Motor Show on 30 November, Hankook showed off its 2013 campaign vehicle, a Brabus-tuned Mercedes A-Class sporting the initiative’s now-familiar police livery. When on patrol, the modified Mercedes will roll on Hankook’s Ventus S1 evo2 tyres in size 235/35 ZR 19 XL.

Hunter and Pro-Align – getting the right balance

A key piece of equipment demonstrated at Pro-Align’s recent ‘Service Vision’ events held across the country was the newly-introduced Hunter Road Force ‘Touch’ balancer. This new unit includes unique features that allow it to measure road force variation and load force measurement, and Pro-Align believes it is set to transform wheel balancing. This potential was well demonstrated in September; despite being launched only a matter of weeks ago, the new system has already claimed its first international accolade – it was awarded the prestigious Innovation award at the Automechanika show in Germany.

Trailer market 5-year forecast downgraded

With Germany the only market out of the Big 7 economies that will have positive GDP in 2012, this deterioration has reportedly fed directly into slowing trailer sales. In the first quarter of 2012 trailer demand was up 0.4 per cent, but it will finish the year down 6.3 per cent. Nevertheless 77 per cent of goods in Europe are moved by road and most of that proportion is transported on a trailer, making the progress of this sector of significant interest.

1,000th Vianor sales outlet in Germany opens

The Vianor tyre retail and car service chain opened its 1,000th sales outlet in Germany. The new outlet is situated in Friedrichshafenin southern Germany. Vianor is owned by Finnish manufacturer Nokian Tyres and currently operates in 24 countries. In addition to tyre services, the sales outlets also provide comprehensive car maintenance services.
