Magna to launch M-Straddle at Bauma

Bridgestone Europe says it will present a “strong line-up” of OTR tyres at this month’s Bauma 2013 trade show in Germany. At its stand (109/206 in hall A6), the company will present details of its “Total Tyre Care” programme plus present its new 20.5 R25 VSDR. Tyre aficionados will also have the chance to ogle the world’s largest OTR radial.
Five years ago Indonesia’s leading contract mining company PT Pamapersada Nusantara (PAMA) decided to install a turn-key OTR retread facility from Rösler in Balikpapan. Now the company is celebrating half a decade since the successful completion of the project. Rösler engineered and designed the entire factory, supplied the equipment and transferred the know-how. In total over 200 tons of equipment was shipped from Germany to the island of Borneo where in February 2008 the first 27.00R49 tyre was retreaded.
In 2013, the Rösler retreading plant run by Indonesian coal mining contractor PT Pamapersada Nusantara (Pama) enters its sixth year in operation, and the German retreading specialist says that plant output will be increased this year. Rösler reports that Pama is currently “evaluating expansion plans to meet the increasing demand.” Details on planned capacity or other information were not given.
Kick off at the opening match of the next World Cup is just over 14 months away, and Germany’s Continental AG is once again a sponsor of the FIFA-organised event. As part of its World Cup involvement, Continental has committed itself to the UERE education project in the Favelas, or the Baixa do Sapateiro slum district of Rio de Janeiro. The UERE project targets children and youths aged between 4 and 18, and over a three-year period Continental will use the media attention the football world’s premier event will give Brazil to raise the profile of UERE and what the project has achieved.
Changes to the management structure of Pirelli Deutschland’s sales and marketing team took effect on 1 April. Amongst these tweaks is an extension of Sascha Kemper’s area of responsibility. In addition to his current position as Germany-wide sales manager for the original equipment truck business and Northern Germany sales manager for the replacement market truck business, Kemper has taken over as head of the replacement truck business in Southern Germany from Sascha Ihrig.
Netherlands-headquartered OTR, industrial and truck tyre company Magna Tyres Group has been awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification for its quality management system. Official certification audits at the Magna Tyres headquarters in Waalwijk were completed in March 2013.
The organiser of last month’s Pneu Expo in France reports that 100 exhibitors from 17 countries displayed their wares at the three-day show. Exhibitor numbers were thus similar to the previous show, and organiser Editions VB says two thirds of the 2013 exhibitors have signed up for the next event.

Goodyear has announced that construction work on the first of its new generation of airships has begun. The Zeppelin LZ N07-101 airship is being built by Germany’s ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik and will be assembled at Goodyear’s Wingfoot Lake Hangar near Akron, Ohio. LZ N07-101 and other craft built by Zeppelin will ultimately replace Goodyear’s fleet of blimps.

According to ADAC Accident Research, around a fifth of all motorcycle accidents could have been prevented if the bike had been fitted with an anti-lock braking system (ABS). To improve the active safety of motorcycles, Continental is expanding its range of electronic braking systems by introducing an one-channel ABS for smaller motorcycle and scooters. Based on its cars technology it was developed especially for cost-sensitive markets such as Asia, where the wheelers must be equipped only with a hydraulic brake on the front wheel.

Norio Karashima, former president and CEO of Yokohama Tire Corporation, is returning to the US-based manufacturing and sales operation as executive advisor. Karashima will commence in this role on 1 April and be based at the company’s headquarters in Fullerton, California.
Dutch OTR tyre manufacturer Magna Tyres Group has announced details of a “strategic relationship” with wholesaler Interpneu. Beginning in April 2013 the agreement is described as “an important step” in introducing and building the Magna brand in Germany. Based in Waalwijk, Netherlands Magna says it is seeking to expand having manufactured compounds for three decades.
