After an April to June period punctuated by negative EBIT and a net loss, tyre maker and automotive components supplier Continental says it is “looking ahead to the second half of the year with optimism.” It is also maintaining its full-year outlook despite a current headwind that chief financial officer Katja Dürrfeld describes as being “rather like a hurricane.”
The recently announced continuation of its partnership with Manchester City F.C. isn’t the only football activity that Nexen Tire is maintaining during the current season. The tyre maker has announced an extension of its sponsorship of German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt e.V. The freshly-reaffirmed partnership will continue through to the 2024/25 season.

Goodyear is expanding its wholesale presence in southwest Germany with the acquisition of local player Reifen Burkhardt GmbH & Co. KG. The purchase of this family-owned tyre wholesaler brings into the Goodyear fold an operation with space to store 250,000 tyres and wheels in a 40,000 square metre warehouse facility. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the third quarter of this year.
After four years as chief executive officer of German tyre and car service network ATU, Matthieu Foucart is returning to parent company Mobivia in France. There he will assume overall responsibility for the group’s workshop and specialist dealer business, which includes the Norauto, Midas, Auto 5 and ATU brands. His successor heading the four-person ATU management team is Sascha Bopp, who will take over as chief executive officer on 1 October 2022.
Saturday should have been a day to remember for Bruno Göggel, and indeed it was. But instead of fond memories of celebrating his nuptials with family and friends, the owner of German tyre wholesaler Reifen Göggel watched a large part of his recently-built facility burn to the ground.
Forestry machine track manufacturers Olofsfors, Clarks and Pewag have approved the mounting of their products upon Alliance 643 Forestar III and Alliance 644 Forestar III tyres. They gave this pairing with Alliance the nod during the Interforst trade fair, which is taking place in Munich this week.

German pyrolysis end-of-life tyre recycling specialist Pyrum Innovations AG has established a joint venture to build and operate a pyrolysis plant in Straubing, Bavaria. Together with a trio of partners, it will establish Revalit GmbH, a recycling plant with a capacity to process 20,000 tonnes of tyres per annum. Pyrum holds a 25 per cent share in the joint venture, as do Munich-based firms MCapital GmbH, Textor GmbH and Auer Holding GmbH. The plan is to have the facility operational by 2024.
Tyre maker and automotive systems manufacturer Continental has called upon the government of its homeland to adopt immigration policy that is more beneficial to German businesses and the population as a whole. In a statement published today, the company opines that the country’s social systems are “threatening to collapse” and living standards endangered if Germany’s government doesn’t change course.
Hankook Tire has marketed its Alphatread range of mould cure or ‘hot’ retreaded tyres for almost a decade now, and today satisfies demand for these products from plants in the UK, Spain, Italy, France and Germany. The last of these is the former Reifen Müller facility in Hammelburg, some 60 miles east of Frankfurt am Main. Hankook recently expanded its Alphatread operation at this site by setting up a separate mould cure retreading operation, significantly increasing capacity.
Continental has announced a reorganisation within its non-tyre business that will lead to the closure of one of its factories in Germany and affect up to 870 jobs. These changes are taking place within the company’s ContiTech group sector and specifically apply to the Mobile Fluid Systems (MFS) business area, and are occurring as the sun continues to set over Germany’s ICE vehicle sector.
German automotive and workshop equipment manufacturer Beissbarth GmbH is to be restructured by the end of this year and has filed an application with the Munich District Court (Amtsgericht München) to open self-administration proceedings.
Through a new partnership agreement with the Siemens technology group, Pyrum Innovations AG anticipates the further promotion, optimisation and scaling of its pyrolysis plants for processing end-of-life tyres (ELT). Pyrum will utilise technology from Siemens’ digitalisation and automation portfolios, with Siemens supporting Pyrum and its customers in the selection of optimal process automation, process analytics, drive and digitalisation technologies, amongst other things.
Best4Tires, the tyre, rim and complete wheel firm previously known as Reifen Gundlach, has entered into a binding agreement to purchase German tyre wholesaler 1a Berlin-Tyre GmbH & Co. KG. Parent company Rivean Capital (formerly Gilde Buy Out Partners) states that this acquisition “represents another important milestone towards Best4Tires’ strategic goal of establishing a market presence throughout Germany.”
