Maha UK Presents New Management Team

Following the retirement of Gus Gregory from Maha UK Ltd, Neil Ebbs has been appointed as managing director from 1 January 2008. Ebbs, who is 45, has been in the garage equipment industry for more than 20 years. He joined Maha in 2004 to start a new project department which has been very successful and has expanded to keep up with demand from customers. Kevin Howard, who has been with Maha UK since the start in 1997, has taken on a new role as business development manager and will be responsible for expanding the customer base, product range and continued Dynamometer sales.

Catherine Gregory and Louis Tunmore, also both founder members of Maha UK, will continue to manage their successful roles and are key members to the success of the company. Catherine Gregory will now be in charge of all the financial and personnel aspects of MAHA. Tunmore, as after sales manager, now controls the 25 engineers and 5 office staff-strong service department.

Maha Reports a Successful Year with the Trade Group

Maha UK reports that 2007 has proven to be a very successful year in terms of its relationship with the Trade Group, and has increased the partnership sales to the Group’s garage equipment arm by at least 50 per cent over 2006. The Cambridgeshire based dealer sells most of its MOT and ATL bays through the Trade Group and their car brake testers. The Trade Group, a national organisation of garage equipment specialists and installers, have premises positioned throughout the UK, providing the advantage of a personalised local service combined with a countrywide sales and service network.

Maha UK is proud of its success over the past decade and beyond in offering a quality product and back up facilities it believes to be second to none; this is also true for the Trade Group. The partnership between the two began in 1998 and has steadily grown over the years to become a strong force in the UK garage equipment industry. Gus Gregory, managing director of Maha UK, says, “The success of Maha UK is not only due to the quality of the product but the also the excellence of the personnel in the Trade Group.”

GEA Helps Garages “Keep Cool” About New Car Air-Con Regulations

The Garage Equipment Association (GEA) is part of a working group in consultation with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) regarding the new EC Regulation No 842/2006 on Certain Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases (F-Gases), and has produced an eight page guide to help those in the vehicle servicing industry understand what this regulation means to them.

The principle objective of the F-Gas Regulation is to contain, prevent and thereby reduce emissions of F-gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol. Key obligations in the Regulation apply in the UK and the rest of the EU with effect from 4 July 2007.

F-Gases are hydro fluorocarbons (HFCs) and their main application in the motor industry is the use of F-Gas 134a as the refrigerant in vehicle climate control and air conditioning systems. As such the July 4 phase-in of the above-mentioned obligations impacts the vehicle service industry.

Snap-On Honours Nigel Vogler After 23-years Service

Nigel Vogler, former Hofmann Sales Director and Area Sales Manager for Snap-on Equipment has retired after a career spanning 23-years with the garage equipment company. His friends and colleagues at Snap-on Equipment’s headquarters in Reading gave the former Garage Equipment Association (GEA) Council Member a warm send off and wished him well for his new life and retirement in Cheshire. Chris Pleass, Sales Manager for Snap-on Equipment, comments: “Nigel is a true senior statesman in our industry and will not be forgotten. I shall miss his wise counsel and open approach and wish him all the best for the future.”

Top Technician 2007 Announced

Clive Atthowe has been crowned the UK’s best mechanic after winning the Top Technician 2007 competition. Clive took first prize in the nationwide contest during an awards ceremony at the GEA/Aftermarket Technical Workshop conference on 11 June at the Motor Heritage Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire. Atthowe, who runs the Clive Atthowe Tuning garage in Norwich, was joined on the winner’s podium by joint runners-up Elliot Waters and David Wagstaff.

Atthowe scooped £2,000 tax free and a range of prizes from sponsors Bosch and Vauxhall Trade Club along with the prestigious title as part of his prize. He hopes the publicity from his win will give his garage a major business boost and help raise awareness among the public of the skills, knowledge and expertise within the motor trade. He achieved the highest score in the competition’s live finals, held as part of the Automotive Trade Show at the NEC in Birmingham, where he competed against 12 of the country’s best technicians in a series of practical tests.

Spotlights Shine on Pro-Align

Literally, the bright spotlights that shone on the Pro-Align stand ensured that the premium level garage equipment the company offers were sharply in focus.

Pro-Align’s exhibition at Brityrex follow the news that the company is to feature in the next Harvie Prema product catalogue, as a ‘supplier partner’. NTDA Backs ‘Right to Repair’ Campaign with Brityrex Seminar

According to a press release distributed by Brityrex and the NTDA, the retail tyre industry is putting its weight behind an aftermarket campaign to highlight restrictive and anti-competitive practices by vehicle manufacturers, which, according to the NTDA, the tyre industry believes is preventing members from servicing and repairing some newer car models.

Maywood Appoints New National Account Manager

Maywood Equipment Group has appointed Malcolm Scott as National Account Manager. Scott will be based at the company’s head office in Maidstone. In recent years he has held senior positions within Brown Brothers, Garage Equipment Services and Unipart Automotive. “I am delighted to have joined Maywood to develop their National Account business. Maywood is a very progressive and growing lift supplier and has outstanding products including the world famous Hofmann range of two post lifts. I am really looking forward to the challenge,” Scott commented.

Garage Equipment Developments at Rema Tip Top

Rema Tip Top UK is introducing several new developments in its range of tyre changing and wheel balancing machines. Hot on the heels of a completely revamped wheel balancing machine portfolio, Rema Tip Top has several new additions on the tyre changing scene. MAHA Commits to Aftermarket Show

Tribute to a True Gentleman

John Nelson, who sadly passed away in July, was the kindest, most humorous, unassuming, modest and caring person you could have the good fortune to know, writes the GEA: He was a gentleman in every sense of the word and a devoted family man.

Born and raised in Somerset in the village of Blagdon, near Weston-Super-Mare and in Bristol. He achieved a scholarship to Colston School in Bristol where he enjoyed maths, physics and Latin as well as representing the school at rugby. This famous old school has produced many international players and as John would freely admit; there was never a chance of him becoming one of them!

Supply Direct Works With Sir Tom and Cardinal O’Brien

As a part of Supply Direct’s ongoing social responsibility policy, the company recently worked with the Romanian Challenge Appeal to install a range of garage equipment in the small town of Siret in Romania, just beside the Ukrainian border. Kwik Fit and Farmer Autocare founder Sir Tom Farmer was the driving force behind the initiative.
