Fastest Road Ferrari to Sport Custom Michelin Rubber

Production of the new Ferrari 599 GTO will be limited to just 599 vehicles, and all of these will be fitted with Michelin super sport tyres specifically designed for this car. Michelin says that it partnered with the Italian super car manufacturer to co-develop the tyre in a record time of just 18 months. Testing with Ferrari engineers and test drivers took place at a number of race tracks, including Fiorano and Nardò in Italy. In matching the tyres’ performance with the chassis characteristics of Ferrari’s fastest road car, priority was placed upon finding the correct balance between safety and optimal track handling, the tyre maker reports.

Trelleborg Tyres Fitted on Hydrogen Tractor

Fiat Group agricultural machinery company, New Holland, has opted to fit Trelleborg agricultural tyres to the Hydrogen powered tractor prototype it has developed in anticipation of future farming trends. According to the tyre maker, the hydrogen-powered NH2 is a key element of New Holland’s Energy Independent Farm approach. The concept reportedly allows famers to generate energy to run their farms and equipment autonomously. The NH2 features an integrated fuel cell system that turns hydrogen into electricity and therefore doesn’t produce any emissions.

Gregory Distribution Renews ATS Euromaster Contract

ATS Euromaster will continue to fit Michelin rubber to Gregory Distribution’s 500-plus trucks and 850 trailers over the next three years after the logistics firm renewed its contract with the service network. ATS-E reports the deal is worth more than £4 million. The relationship between the two companies dates back to the early 1990s, and involves two ATS Euromaster technicians working full-time at Gregory Distribution centres at Cullompton and North Tawton.

Continental Clarifies Tyre Labelling Report

Continental Tyre Group, the UK arm of tyre and automotive supplier Continental AG, has sought to clarify comments made on motoring website motortorque.com which criticised forthcoming tyre labelling laws. In an interview published on 4 May 2010 the website said UK managing director David Smith described the planned labelling system as “not worth the paper it’s printed on.”

However, Continental representatives said this was a misunderstanding of what was said: “In a response to a recent direct question regarding the upcoming EU label, the intention was to highlight the benefit to the consumer of the more encompassing tests carried out and published by a number of European motoring magazines and motoring organisations. It was also intended to highlight the consistent leading performance of the major tyre brands in these tests, regardless of which part of the world in which they are produced.”

Bridgestone Announces Sponsorship of 2010 Eco Rally

Bridgestone has announced that it will sponsor a rally of low and zero emission vehicles: the 2010 Brighton to London Eco-Rally. The company says it will bring along well-known Formula One names on Wednesday 7 July, when the convoy of vehicles will travel the famous Veteran Car Run in reverse, driving from Brighton’s seafront to London’s Hyde Park. At the park, the rally will join a green transport exhibition, free to attend, at the Royal Albert Memorial.

First Michelin FLAG Award Goes to Ballon’s Nolan Tyres

Nolan Tyres in Ballon, County Carlow is the first tyre dealer in the UK and Ireland to win a Fastest Lap Award as part of the Michelin FLAG promotion. The Fastest Lap prize is made up of £2,500 in high-street vouchers (euros in Ireland), five PlayStation3 games consoles for fitters and five places on the Michelin-sponsored Porsche Driving Experience at Silverstone.

Titan Increasing Activities in Canada, Mexico

Upon announcing Titan International’s first quarter 2010 results, company chairman and CEO Maurice M. Taylor Jr. spoke on the company’s direction during the year. “Titan plans to open a facility in Fort MacMurray, Alberta, Canada, by the end of third quarter this year to service our new mining customers, and we plan on embarking on a joint venture in Mexico this year for the distribution of all Titan products,” he stated.

Forbes Ranks Goodyear 40th “Most Reputable” US Company

Forbes Magazine has published its fifth annual list of the companies with the best reputation in the USA, with The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company ranked 40th. Goodyear says the list is based on the Reputation Institute’s US Reputation Pulse consumer opinion survey, which aims to measure the overall respect, trust, esteem, admiration and good feelings consumers hold toward the country’s 150 largest companies.

Translogik: Helping To Keep Tyres in Top Condition

With tyre costs rising, it makes sense for hauliers and fleet managers to ensure that their tyres are maintained in A1 condition. And it is not just the cost of the tyre itself – properly maintained and inflated tyres can reduce fuel consumption. Translogik produces a range of tyre inspection solutions for fleet managers, including hand-held tread depth and pressure probe – the OTR probe can measure treads up to 130mm deep and pressures up to 190 psi. These are complemented by Translogik's own software, which provides the fleet operator with a totally automated tyre management and fleet inspection process, allowing a series of reports to be generated. Bridgestone Survey Reveals Cost of Under-Inflated Tyres

Europeans’ concern about the spiralling cost of fuel is being exacerbated by the state of motorists’ tyres according to research conducted by Bridgestone. According to the manufacturer, four billion litres – worth approximately £4.6 billion – of fuel are being wasted every year due to the under-inflated tyres of four in every five motorists. This inadequate tyre care does not just affect motorists’ wallets; the wasted fuel equates to 9.3 million tonnes of unnecessary CO2 emissions, and therefore increases the harm to the environment caused by motoring. The findings come from safety checks carried out on 52,400 cars in 15 E.U countries in 2009.

British Businesses "Wasting Fuel" – Survey

According to a recent survey, British businesses are squandering millions of litres of petrol because employees don’t drive company vehicles efficiently. Poor driving technique, inaccurate fuel gauges and bad record keeping are all contributing to companies being unaware of the real consequences of their fuel usage, the survey adds.

The research by leading telematics expert Trimble MRM found recent hikes in petrol and diesel prices is the biggest challenge facing fleet managers today. The drive to make business more fuel efficient is forcing fleet managers to take a long hard look at their vehicles and driver behaviour.
