Goodyear has revealed that it is on the verge of introducing a new tyre technology "that will help car makers reach new levels of fuel efficiency and CO2 reductions in Europe. No details have been made available about the new technology, which was developed by the Goodyear Innovation Centre in Luxembourg and which is set to be revealed in the second half of this year.

The weekend overlaps with the Isle of Man TT races, meaning many more bikers will be heading out to watch the action, making pre-journey tyre checks even more important.
With fuel prices at near-record levels, US consumers are driving less and contemplating a move to smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, according to recent survey by Consumer Reports. Tire Review reports that the survey found that 37 per cent said their leading consideration when shopping for their next car will be fuel economy. A distant second was quality (17 per cent) followed by safety (16 per cent), value (14 per cent) and performance (6 per cent).
Goodyear Aviation will supply its Flight Radial tyre to the new Bombardier Global 7000 and Global 8000 business aircraft, scheduled to enter service in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Goodyear will provide the aircraft manufacturer with nose and main radial tyres for both the original equipment and replacement channels, according to Bert Aertssen, general manager, global aviation, Goodyear. “This award underscores Goodyear’s commitment to providing the industry with revolutionary radial tyre solutions with the incorporation of alloy core bead technology,” he said.
Pirelli has used its P Zero Red supersoft Formula One tyre for the first time in 2012 today. The tyre was specifically designed for tight and twisty street circuits such as Monaco, making the most iconic Grand Prix on the calendar the perfect venue for its introduction. Jenson Button set the fastest time of the day during the second practice session with a time of 1:15:746 on the supersoft tyre.
Bridgestone is taking a 460m² stand (3-237) to next month’s Essen Show where it will present its Total Tyre Life message. Two new sizes have joined Michelin’s CerexBib agricultural tyre range, and the French manufacturer says these additions will address the “emerging needs of entrepreneurs, farmers and grain producers.” The latest CerexBib fitments are IF 800/70 R 38 CFO and IF 900/60 R 38 CFO, and Michelin says these new large-diameter tyres give farmers the option to operate without investing in costly four-wheel-drive or caterpillar tread equipment. The two new sizes have already been approved by John Deere, Case, New Holland, Claas and Laverda and fitted on their harvesters for the new season.
