Euro-Tyre-Infinity Employees ‘Pump the Pedals’ for Charity

‘Ride for the Roses’ is a well-known charity event initiated by seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong. First held in Austin, Texas, a Ride for the Roses race has been run annually in the Netherlands since 1998. This year’s event was held in the city of Venlo on September 5 and attracted more than 11,000 participants, including eight motivated employees from Dutch wholesaler Euro-Tyre. Together the Euro-Tyre cyclists covered a combined total of more than 900 kilometres and their contribution to the Dutch Cancer Association, the KWF, was boosted by an additional donation from company management.

Claiming to be Michelin Heir, Man Takes Case to Court

A man claiming to be a rightful heir to the Michelin family fortune has taken his case to French court. Jean-Philippe Rouchon, who was born in Puy de Dôme, France, near Michelin’s historic headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand, says he is the illegitimate son of Patrice Michelin, the grandson of André, who founded the company with his brother, Edouard, in 1888.

Watts Tyre Group Passes ISO 14001 Assessment

In the past year Watts Tyre Group has attained the new ISO 9001:2008 standard and renewed its Approved Supplier status from Toyota Industrial Equipment SA, and now the UK based industrial tyre and wheel producer reports it has again passed the ongoing assessment for ISO 14001:2004 and its Environmental Management system. In announcing this latest achievement, company CEO Jean-Paul Mindermann commented “our quality accreditations are very important to us as a business and we are delighted that we continue to keep our standards high. As a key supplier to the world’s leading materials handling manufacturers it is vital for us to ensure that the quality of our products and processes is world class.

Pirelli ‘Slightly Ahead’ With F1 Tyre Testing

Testing of Pirelli’s Formula One tyres continues, and the Italian tyre maker says test driver Nick Heidfeld was busy at the Le Castellet circuit in the south of France during the first week of September. The Toyota TF109 test car fitted with F1 PZero tyres was on the track for two days in order to further evaluate tyre construction and compounds.

CGS Tyres to Buy EDP

Czech off-road tyre producer CGS Tyres has agreed to acquire the sales unit of the Saint-Paul-lès-Romans-based L’Européenne de pneumatiques (EDP), a French veteran of agricultural and industrial tyre sales of 25 years. The sale of Mitas-branded tyres by CGS Pneu France directly on the French market, including a transfer of the major customers of EDP of both original equipment and replacement markets, will begin immediately.

Road Legal Dunlop GP Racer D211 “Echoes D211 GP’s Success”

The road legal descendent of Dunlop’s successful D211 GP motorcycle race tyre has been making waves since its introduction in late 2009, report Goodyear Dunlop representatives. “Echoing the success of the D211 GP race tyre,” states Dunlop, the GP Racer D211 has been adopted both on track days and by one-make national championships across the globe in 2010. As mid-season passes, the tyre is being run in the PromoSport Cup and the WERC series in France, the Yamaha R6 Cup in Germany, the Italian Superstock 600 championship, the Dubai 600 and 1000 Superstock Championships and the Ducati 848 Cup and Harley Davidson Cup in the UK. In Australia, the slick version (GP Racer D211 Slick) is used for the National Superbike Championship.

10 Stowaways Found Hiding in Tyre Truck

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has reported that 10 stowaways have been found trying to enter the UK in a lorry load of tyres heading for Basildon, Essex. The men, who were from a number of countries including Vietnam, Iran and Iraq, were sniffed out at Calais ferry port by the UK Border Agency (new window) body detection dog, 'Buddy' on 26 July. Border officers removed the would-be illegal immigrants from the lorry and handed them over to French authorities.

Testing Begins on Pirelli F1 Rubber

Due to take over from Bridgestone as Formula One’s tyre supplier after the current 2010 season, Pirelli has started testing its tyres on a GP2 car in France, reported Manipe F1, which published an interview with Pirelli’s motorsport director, Paul Hembery. He declared himself “very happy with the performance of the product for the first test”.

Michelin Lands Air France-KLM Contracts

Michelin has signed two 10-year contracts with the airlines Air France and KLM. Under the terms of these, Michelin tyres will be fitted on around 425 aircraft operated both by the Air France-KLM Group and by other airlines for which Air France and KLM provide maintenance services. These aircraft include 37 Boeing B777-300 ERs, 66 Boeing B737-NGs, 145 Airbus A320s and three Airbus A380s.

Michelin Fans Snap up Memorabilia at Unique Sale

How much would you pay for a Michelin Guide? £15.99? How about £68,000? This is the sum French restaurateur Jean Yves Schillinger parted with to acquire a full collection of all 300 Michelin Red Guides produced until 2000, including the 1900 edition that started the French tyre maker on the path to gourmet guide dominance. The guides were the star attraction at the dispersal sale of Alain Morel’s private collection of Michelin memorabilia – the world’s largest assortment of Michelin themed items. Schillinger says he plans to display the guides in his new, soon-to-open Michelin themed restaurant.

According to the tyre maker, the Bath Stone Group is benefitting from a change in tyre policy that has seen tyre longevity on its underground loader shovels rise by 800 per cent, thereby significantly increasing productivity at its Stoke Hill Mine.

Praktish Appointed Michelin North America Executive VP & CFO

Effective July 1, 2010, Thomas Praktish has taken on the role of executive vice president and chief financial officer of Michelin North America. Prior to this appointment Mr. Praktish served as controller for Michelin Americas Small Tires and his previous roles within the company include financial positions in Michelin’s manufacturing plants and corporate offices, both in the US and in France. Praktish began his career with Michelin as a financial analyst for BFGoodrich Tires.

Starco Promotes Growing Wheel Business at Reifen 2010

It’s only about a year since Tyres & Accessories visited Starco Europe’s head office in Denmark, so it came as a surprise to discover how much activity has occurred within the company in the months between our last interview and the Reifen 2010 show in Essen.
