Teams try out 2018 Pirelli F1 range
Testing of Pirelli’s 2018 Formula 1 tyres took place at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina circuit over a two-day period this week, and following the conclusion of proceedings the tyre maker is proud to report that four-time and current champion Lewis Hamilton has declared the new PZero Pink hypersoft tyre the “best tyre Pirelli has ever made.”
Hypersoft and Superhard options joining Pirelli’s F1 range in 2018
Changes such as those seen this year won’t be a hallmark of the Formula 1 tyre range Pirelli offers teams in 2018, however the tyre maker says this doesn’t mean it hasn’t been busy. In line with its aim of ensuring an average of two pit stops at most races, two extra compounds and sidewall colours will join the Pirelli Formula 1 tyre range in 2018. The line-up previewed by the tyre maker at last weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix also includes fresh constructions, compounds and working ranges.
Pirelli: Soft tyres an “aggressive choice” for Belgian GP
The Belgian Grand Prix gets under way in two days’ time, and Pirelli will bring its P Zero Purple ultrasoft tyres for the first time to Spa-Francorchamps, together with the P Zero Red supersoft and P Zero Yellow soft. This is the sixth time this year that the three softest tyres in the Pirelli Formula One range have been selected – Pirelli says their use in Belgium represents “a more aggressive choice.” And as the weekend’s forecast includes rain, there’s a good chance we’ll also see the Cinturato Green intermediate or Cinturato Blue full wet at some point during proceedings.
British GP: Raikkonen incident caused by external damage, not “tyre issues”
An analysis of the tyre that caused problems for Kimi Raikkonen in the British Grand Prix has found “no issues connected with the tyre itself nor with its use,” shares Pirelli. A close inspection of the soft compound tyre fitted to the front left wheel of Raikkonen’s Ferrari revealed specific damage in two places at the edge of the belt close to the internal shoulder area, however no damage was found in any other area of the tyre, and no signs of fatigue were evident in the belt and structure.
British GP tyre problems unrelated, believes Pirelli
Pirelli Tyre is looking at the issues that Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen experienced with their front-left tyres during yesterday’s British Grand Prix race, however the tyre maker believes the two tyre failures are unrelated.
96 prototypes evaluated on last day of Pirelli’s 2017 F1 tyre testing
Yesterday, Pirelli wrapped up its 2017 Formula 1 tyre testing. The final day out of a cumulative total of 24 brought together all three ‘mule’ cars from Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari on the Yas Marina circuit. These modified 2015 cars are designed to simulate new regulations that will come into effect next year and result in speeds increasing by five seconds per lap compared to last year.
Hamilton victorious, Pirelli investigates Vettel tyre issue
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was victorious in Austria, winning the Austrian Grand Prix from pole position using a two-stop strategy. Teammate Nico Rosberg collided with Hamilton as the Briton passed him on the final lap of an action-packed grand prix, having used the timing of his pit stop tyre strategy to boost his position, “undercutting” a number of drivers including his team mate (who started from pole) to lead the race. Following contact with Hamilton, Rosberg’s car sustained front wing damage, leading to his fourth place finish. More worryingly for tyre supplier Pirelli was the blowout that ended Sebastian Vettel’s grand prix, the causes of which the manufacturer said it was investigating with the constructor, Ferrari.
Pirelli reveals F1 drivers’ tyre choices for Silverstone
England’s out of Euro 2016 and soon to be out of the European Union as well, but at least it has the British Grand Prix to look forward to. The event, which was originally scheduled to take place on 24 to 26 June, will now be held between 8 and 10 July. Pirelli has released an infographic showing each driver’s tyre choices for the round at Silverstone.
3 softest Pirelli P Zero F1 compounds available for Monaco
Pirelli has announced its compound allocations for Formula One’s visit to Monaco. The chosen tyres include a debut for the P Zero Purple ultrasoft. The sixth round of the 2016 F1 season will be held on 26-29 May on the street circuit in Montecarlo.

‘Money not a Consideration’ for JK Tyre
Indian manufacturer JK Tyre was reportedly one of three large companies that forked out nearly £16 million in sponsorship in order to see the Jordan F1 team hire Narain Karthikeyan. In fact, “money was really not a consideration” when it comes to F1 sponsorship, the company told the AFP news agency.
