Continental is celebrating the 2006 World Cup with the launch of a special tyre. In the run-up to world’s most prestigious footballing event (from 2006) the ContiChampionContact will be available from tyre dealers. Franz Beckenbauer, Sepp Blatter and Brazil’s legendary Pele will all be using it when they come Germany for the FIFA World Cup 2006, as the tyre will also be fitted to all VIP vehicles and shuttles.
Newcastle United’s Toon Army and Sunderland’s Mackems have been named as the nation’s most committed football fans for miles covered per season, in a survey conducted by Continental.
The Toon Army claim number one spot, travelling 22.8 million miles, according to the results of Conti’s study of 92 English and Welsh clubs.
The NTDA is to run a nationwide series of health and safety “talk-ins” designed to help members get up to speed on new recommendations and legislation affecting tyre retails premises.Supported by the Health and Safety executive and local authorities, the meetings will feature presentations from local inspectors on what to expect when premises are visited by HSE inspectors, as well as detailed information on the new recommendations on manual handling.
Hi-Q has appointed Nikki McCluney as its new marketing manager. She joins Birmingham-based Hi-Q from van maker LDV where she was marketing manager, responsible for retail and fleet marketing as well as the sponsorship of the LDV Vans Trophy football tournament. As part of Nikki’s role at Hi-Q, she will be responsible for all marketing initiatives covering marketing and public relations and will also lead the implementation of a new brand strategy later this year.
The widespread introduction of catalytic converters, almost a decade ago, has had a dramatic effect on vehicle pollution. Harmful emissions from petrol cars have been reduced by an average of 75 per cent. The effectiveness of ‘cats’, combined with vast improvements in the quality of fuels, means that today it is estimated that it would take up to approximately 100 new cars to produce the same emissions as just one made 20 years ago. On January 21st Continental AG set the seal on its participation as an official partner of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The agreement was signed by Joseph S. Blatter, President of FIFA, and Manfred Wennemer, Chairman of the Executive Board of Continental AG – in the presence of Franz Beckenbauer, the President of the Organising Committee of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ and other guests from sports, business and politics – at the Technology Center in Hanover-Stöcken. Wennemer emphasised that this agreement documented Continental’s ongoing involvement in a sport that links and thrills millions of people. Football is the game that attracts more attention than any other sport in Europe and – as demonstrated during last year’s world championship in Japan and South Korea – also worldwide. He was sure that the world championship in 2006 would be the outstanding sporting event of this decade in Germany. Its commitment as an official partner of FIFA would provide Continental with an unparalleled marketing platform in all international markets. Continental is one of 15 partners involved in global sponsorship. Additionally, there are six national sponsorships for the 2006 World Cup. And the sponsorship is not only targeted at consumers but also internally, as Continental says the move will motivate its own associates.
Following the 2002 World Cup football championship in Japan and Korea, goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has been a perfect example of steadiness, if not invincibility. Now, the German national player will be seen at Japanese tyre outlets as the face of a new sales promotion for Bridgestone. The campaign, which will only be seen in Japan, is costing Bridgestone about 10 million Euros and also features three television spots filmed in Munich and featuring the player.
At the risk of stereotyping, the Italians do everything with a passion. They cook with a passion, and they eat with a passion. In the UK we tend to cook to eat and we eat to live. In Italy, the cook would be insulted if the diner only ate to live. The diner would not visit the restaurant of the chef who cooked without interest, without passion. That drive, that passion is to be found almost everywhere in Italian life, in politics, in motoring, in football, and in art and architecture. A history of development, attention to detail and a keen eye on the market brought Marangoni to the situation where in 1989 the Group decided to move into new tyre production at Anagni.
At the end of this season’s competition, Continental will cease its sponsorship of football’s European Champions League. The company has been a major sponsor of the competition for the past five years.
