Sonic Rail Services (SRS) is one of the first operators in the country to enjoy the benefits of Michelin’s latest X Multi HD D tyres. The rail infrastructure business is trialling the 315/80 R22.5 fitments on its flagship Volvo FH16 750 tractor unit and plans to roll out the tyres across the remainder of its heavy fleet.
Goodyear’s Drive-Over-Reader has received three industry awards in 2019, recognising the fleet tyre monitoring and management tool. The system won its latest accolade on 27 November when it was announced as the winner of the 2019 IoMobility ‘Mobility Innovation’ award by #Innovability. The annual IoMobility Awards honour innovative companies and products that address the challenges of “smart mobility” in Italy. Goodyear’s Drive-Over-Reader first received a prize in the ‘Mobility Innovation’ category, after being evaluated by a jury of more than 20 experts from the transport industry.

One of the UK’s biggest freight haulage companies has given its endorsement to Bridgestone’s suite of commercial tyre services. Pentalver, a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W), which offers a range of container services including road haulage and container conversions, operates a fleet of over 350 tractor units and 900 trailers in the UK – all fitted on a combination of Bridgestone’s latest generation Ecopia H002 tyres and Bandag retread products.
Temperature-sensitive goods transport fleet Ludwig Meyer GmbH & Co has signed a Goodyear Total Mobility fleet management contract. The partnership comprises the tyre manufacturer’s latest generation of fuel-efficient tyres, launched earlier in 2019, predictive digital solutions and the support of the pan-European service network TruckForce. “Punctuality and uptime are key in our operations. Particularly in the case of temperature-controlled transportation, any downtime of a vehicle may entail significant follow-up costs.” says Christopher Steyer, head of fleet and project management at Meyer Logistik.
RG Contracting plans to move its entire fleet onto Michelin XeoBib agricultural tyres. The Scottish farming business specified the fitments on nine new John Deere tractors, and has been pleased with the results.
Goodyear Tyres has secured a new five-year partnership with Reynolds Logistics. The family-owned bulk logistics company specialises in the haulage of liquid products, distributing fuels and hazardous goods throughout the UK and Europe. Goodyear will supply the firm with its comprehensive Goodyear Total Mobility offering, including Kmax Gen-2 and Kmax T tyres for trucks, trailers and tankers in the Reynolds Logistics fleet.
Some of Europe’s best truck drivers will gather at the Goodyear proving grounds in Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg on September 28 and 29, 2019. They will compete in the 2019 International DAF Driver Challenge Final. With the event, DAF states it is promoting the skilled and demanding profession supported by its partners Goodyear and Dekra. In total more than 1000 candidates from 30 countries across Europe and beyond registered to compete in the national competitions from March to September.
Hankook presented selections from its truck and bus tyre range at the Transport Compleet 2019 fair (3-5 September, Gorinchem, Netherlands), including the SmartFlex for medium-haul and regional transport and the SmartWork for on and off-road use. Bridgestone Europe (Bridgestone) will rename TomTom Telematics as Webfleet Solutions on 1 October 2019, following its acquisition of the company on 1 April.
