Fleet Hire has signed a new three year agreement to fit premium Michelin tyres across more than 4,500 cars and vans within its growing fleet. The contract covers the 65 per cent of vehicles supplied by Fleet Hire with a full repair and maintenance package and was won following a competitive tender.
Kwik Fit reports that it is seeking to win new light commercial vehicle fleet business opportunities at the 2015 Commercial Vehicle Show. The UK’s largest automotive repair company will be sharing its show stand with sister company Central Tyre, which is also owned by the Itochu Corporation-owned and has been supplying the commercial and agriculture industries for more than 50 years. Indeed, Central Tyre says it is the UK’s “number one independent commercial service provider”.
Kwik Fit reports that it is seeing fleet demand for its range of mechanical services increasing and is forecasting further growth in 2015. According to the company, the catalyst for growth was the opening of 20 Kwik Fit Plus centres. Indeed, Kwik Fit Plus centres are said to form a key part of parent company Itochu Corporation’s ongoing network-wide multi-million pound refurbishment and modernisation programme.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists’ Drive & Survive division has been investigating the true extent of company car accidents – and found a shocking 86 per cent of fleets have experienced an accident in the past 12 months, while 100 per cent of fleets have had an accident at some time where one of their drivers was ‘at fault’.
The findings come in IAM Drive & Survive’s first report of the year, titled ‘An analysis of bent metal amongst company fleets.’
Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres has secured a new tyre supply contract with Countrystyle Recycling. Countrystyle reportedly opted for the Vacu-Lug full tyre supply and fleet management solution because it wanted “increased visibility and standardisation within a tyre agreement and was impressed by the advanced control and reporting systems that Vacu-Lug offered.”
Countrystyle has specified Vacu-Lug, Pirelli, Formula and Westlake tyres, depending on the vehicle type involved. They are managed through Vacu-Lug’s VMS tyre fleet management system and all fitments and breakdowns are supplied and covered by ATS Euromaster.

Hermes UK, the consumer delivery specialist, has renewed its three-year tyre contract with Michelin solutions, saying the efficient management of its tyres helped contribute to a 12 per cent reduction in diesel bills over the last three years. The Effitires contract – Michelin solutions’ name for an outsourced tyre management deal – will cover the entire Hermes UK fleet of 190 tractor units, 368 rigid trucks and 760 trailers.
Kerr’s Tyres is to supply, fit and maintain all tyres for Hannon Transport’s fleet of over 300 units and trailers. Hannon is one of Ireland’s leading refrigerated haulage companys dealing with the transportation of cut flowers, plants, fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy from mainland Europe across the UK and Ireland.
The three-year deal, with an option to extend for a further three years, will reportedly focus on the supply, fit and maintenance of fuel efficiency tyres designed to reduce fuel costs and the number of breakdowns over the life of the contract.

ATS Euromaster’s service is “key” to a UK-based haulier renewing its contract with the company for the 17th consecutive year. The Gwynedd Shipping Group, which offers a range of haulage services including services to Ireland and specialist domestic steel delivery, runs its fleet of 80 trucks and 600 trailers, seven days a week, double-shifting the vehicles. The company therefore needs a service provider and tyre policy which can manage this high utilisation.
TIP Trailer Services has extended its truck tyre contract supply contract with Goodyear until the end of 2016, at which point the two companies will celebrate 10 years of working together. With more than 50,000 vehicles, TIP Trailer Services is one of Europe’s leading equipment services providers, specialising in the leasing and rental of trailers, tankers and other equipment. The contract, which covers the supply, service and management of tyres for TIP Trailer Services, commenced in 2006.
North Yorkshire bulk tipper operator M Kettlewell (Melmerby) has signed a fixed price tyre supply and maintenance contract with Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres. Ripon-based M Kettlewell currently runs 33 units and 36 trailers, transporting raw materials, such as wheat and barley, for animal feed processors nationally.
