Arla Foods Milks Benefit of Michelin X One Tyres

Those with a hankering for milk products will be pleased to hear that the use of Michelin’s X One MaxiTrailer tyres has enabled Leeds based dairy company Arla Foods UK plc to increase the load capacity of its palletised milk deliveries by 50 per cent. Through the added stability the Michelin tyre provides the company’s first variable deck trailer, Arla Foods can now load 36 pallets on board as opposed to 24. The Gray & Adams variable deck trailer is being used by Arla Foods to support a major contract that requires milk to be delivered in palletised loads to a regional distribution centre, from where the retailer amalgamates it with other products prior to delivery to its stores. This process differs from most milk contracts where products are transported in roll cages that are wheeled directly from the trailer onto the shop floor.

Bridgestone UK Wins European TBR Fleet Sales Award

Bridgestone UK’s commercial sales team has won a unique trip to Japan after it won the company’s European TBR Fleet Sales Award. According to a company press release, which congratulated the team on their achievements, the UK market leader has dominated the awards with three of the six winners coming from Bridgestone UK. 161 applications were received for the incentive that was designed to motivate the fleet staff and help them exchange best practice to share with the Bridgestone European sales team.

Bridgestone UK winners Simon Cairns, Steve Miller and Neil Collison are flying out to visit Bridgestone’s Head Office in Tokyo this month. As well as getting the chance to observe how the brand operates in Japan, with a trip to the manufacturing plant at Tochigi, the proving ground and a visit to a Japanese Fleet Operator, the trio will also have a chance to experience the local culture.

European Metal Recycling Chooses Bandvulc and Fulda

European Metal Recycling Ltd (EMR), a global leader in recycled metal products and environmental services, has selected Bandvulc and Fulda tyres as policy fitment for its southern UK based fleet operations. Adam Wilkes, Transport Manager for EMR‘s Southern Region commented: “We have run extensive tests and trials with a variety of tyre brands at a selection of our operating centres and found the Bandvulc package to be the most cost effective solution for our business both in regards to up front costs and final PPK rates. We believe in simplicity so chose not to run casing banks or value management of assets. The Bandvulc offer was straightforward and uncomplicated and hence, more attractive”.

When Al-Dobowi Group executives Surrender Singh Kandhari and his son Harjeev Singh Kandhari founded Infinity tyres six years ago, they probably didn't envisage how quickly their ambitious plans would come to fruition. What began with a series of informal meetings with key employees and potential suppliers in 2004 has since grown into an international exclusive/private brand operation present in 60 countries around the world. The kernel of a concept the Kandharis planted back then has developed through key partnerships with Chinese supplying manufacturer Shandong Linglong Co., Ltd. (see following article for more on this company's latest developments including its plans to construct a $200 million proving ground) and key distribution partners in Europe and Africa. With the recent addition of a Canadian distribution arm last year and with fledgling partnerships in both the Russian and Ukrainian markets, the company's global ambitions are clear.

Kwik-Fit Fleet Introduces Service24

Improved fleet driver communication and enhanced data information for contract hire and leasing company customers are the two key advantages Kwik-Fit Fleet says will be gained from its new web-enabled Service 24 initiative. The recently installed Service24 software handles and co-ordinates driver bookings for vehicle servicing, maintenance and repair to be carried out either through Kwik-Fit Fleet’s own network or motor manufacturers’ franchises; glass replacement; breakdown assistance and vehicle recovery and vehicle hire for all Kwik-Fit Fleet’s leasing customers.

98% of London Buses on Michelin PPM Contracts

Many Britons of a certain age will blanche when hearing the words “on the buses”, as memories of the questionable comedy series from the early 1970s flood back uninvited. But at Michelin this phrase has an entirely different, and far more pleasant connotation – Michelin Fleet Solutions, the specialist tyre management division of Michelin Tyre plc, has grown its share of the major bus fleet market to include vehicles operating on 98 per cent of red London bus routes within the M25 – all supported on pence per mile (PPM) contracts. The combined agreements cover well over 8,000 vehicles under the management of London Buses – part of Transport for London (TfL) – operating primarily on 245/70 R 19.5 and 275/70 R 22.5 Michelin X InCity tyres.

Nestlé Develops a Sweet Tooth for Michelin Trailer Tyres

Nestlé Logistics is rolling out Michelin's 455/45 R 22.5 X One MaxiTrailer tyres across its fleet following a year-long tyre trial. During the 12-month period, a Montracon trailer in service with Nestlé covered 200,000 kilometres, and at the end was capable of travelling a potential further 20,000 kilometres before re-grooving is performed. The Michelin tyres were fitted as original equipment on the trailer, which has operated since new on busy trunking routes between the Nestlé factory in York and its distribution hubs across the UK.

What Does Future Hold for Truck Tyre Retreading?

2009 may have been a difficult year for the tyre business in general, but the new truck tyre sector faired particularly badly. And as a knock-on effect of the reduced number of miles driven by fleets in the slowing economy, retread product was also hit (for example some figures suggest UK retread output was down 20 per cent this time last year). However, this improved during the course of the year and with retreading companies securing an increasing share of fleet business, Devon-based Bandvulc tyres is looking forward to a bright future in the international logistics business.

In a period of expansion that has impressed even the truck and bus market’s leading new tyre manufacturers, in recent years Bandvulc has grown to an influential position in certain segments, particularly to supermarket fleet tyre supply. Along the way the company has developed a reputation for environmental consciousness and recently took on an expanded new tyre distribution role in order to extend the service it can offer its growing fleet customer base. Kwik-Fit Fleet Awarded for Contribution in a Turbulent 2009

Kwik-Fit Fleet was recently named the UK’s ‘Best Fast Fit Company’ for a 17th consecutive year in the annual BusinessCar Awards, and now the company has scooped another honour. This second award comes from vehicle leading and management company LeasePlan UK. Nine of LeasePlan’s key suppliers were bestowed a Supplier Excellence Award, which recognises those organisations that have helped the company live up to its key values over the last 12 months, in one of three categories – service, value and innovation – Kwik-Fit Fleet was a recipient in the value category.

According to Continental, this new and diversified range of products and service, including tyres and other mobility solutions for the European road transport industry, is the manufacturer’s response to the changed requirements of international freight transport. Motiva Leasing Fleet Opts for Michelin New Tyre Policy

ATS Euromaster has increased its share of business with Motiva Group from 30 to 100 per cent, under a new tyre fitment policy which has seen the company select Michelin as its preferred tyre brand across its fleet of over 3,500 cars. The new agreement spans each of Stoke-on-Trent-based Motiva Group’s leasing and rental arms, including Motiva Vehicle Contracts and M-Way Vehicle Rentals. The deal replaces a previous arrangement which saw tyre fitment shared between Kwik-Fit and ATS Euromaster, with a predominantly Pirelli-based policy.

Kwik-Fit Fleet Awarded 300,000 Vehicle Lex Autolease Contract

Two of Britain’s largest suppliers to the nation’s company car and van market, Kwik-Fit Fleet and Lex Autolease, have signed what Kwik-Fit believes to be the most valuable fast-fit deal in UK fleet industry history. The three-year solus contract, estimated to be worth at least £150 million over its duration, will see Kwik-Fit Fleet supply and manage all tyre repair and replacement plus deliver a range of ancillary services, including vehicle servicing and MoTs, to the Lex Autolease fleet of more than 300,000 vehicles. The fast-fit provider won the contract, which goes live on March 1, in a competitive tender.

Strathclyde Tyres Wins Exel Scotland Contracts Supported by Cameo

Tyre supplier Strathclyde Tyres has won the West Dunbartonshire and South Lanarkshire local authority Exel contracts. Strathclyde reports that the use of Cam Systems’ Cameo software platform has assisted Strathclyde’s account management and reporting, allowing it to develop its communication with customers. Cameo provides a foundation line-of-business application suite for tyre wholesalers and retailers. Debbie Tracey, manager at Strathclyde Tyres says: “Our partnership with Cam Systems has enabled us to improve the way in which we manage accounts and streamline our reporting process. This has allowed us to improve the way we communicate with our clients and, in turn, make us more marketable. We selected Cam as we had been looking for a software package which is specifically built to meet our needs and have been impressed with the increased visibility it has given our company.” Cameo reportedly helped to increase visibility across its two divisions – private and commercial – provided by Cam Systems, the leading software solutions provider to the independent tyre industry.

Michelin XZE 2+ Chosen for Midlands Bus Fleet

Paul S. Winson Coaches has chosen to meet the challenges of inner city school runs, private hire contracts and long-distance touring with Michelin products that it believes will help deliver increased tyre mileage. The Loughborough-based company says that with XZE 2+ tyres one of its luxury 53-seater VDL Bova Futuras is seeing increased tyre life while maintaining high levels of safety and ride quality performance.

Tyre Labelling: Safety Should be the Top Priority, says Kwik-Fit Fleet

The EU has agreed that all new tyres sold in Europe from November 1, 2012 onwards must be classified and labelled according to their fuel efficiency, wet grip and noise performance. Kwik-Fit Fleet comments that this regulation is intended to make fleet operators, company car and van drivers and private drivers aware of the individual performance characteristics of every single new tyre on sale – and the fast-fitter admonishes fleet managers not to skimp on safety or cost when the labelling initiative gets underway.
