WG Tanker Group, which describes itself as a “one-stop-shop for all powder tanker requirements”, is celebrating its relationship with Westlake tyres (distributed by Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres) 18 months in, saying it would not look elsewhere for a similar product.
ATS Euromaster is once again switching over thousands of its customers’ tyres to winter rubber as fleets begin to prepare for the colder months ahead. The tyre and vehicle servicing expert has placed initial orders for approximately £7 million worth of the specialist tyres, and its network of 345 centres is already seeing customers requesting their summer tyres be removed and winter tyres fitted.

European tyre wholesaler Hämmerling – The Tyre Company GmbH, distributor of the Athos private brand, has introduced its new ‘Athos Service Network’ at the IAA show in Hanover, Germany. The company says the concept centres on a 24-hour service for commercial vehicle rental fleets, transport companies and manufacturers in 24 European countries. Hämmerling aims to attract customers by offering a one-stop service at an attractive price. Tyre changes and breakdown service will be handled, as far as possible, by affiliated European Athos dealers. If no dealer is available or located in the vicinity, an established service organisation will step in.
UK Centre of Excellence for low carbon technologies, Cenex will launch its new website-based electric vehicle viability analysis tool at LCV2014. Responding to the needs of fleet managers, Cenex has developed a simple-to-use fleet decision making tool. Cenex’s FCRT lite (http://www.cenex.co.uk/fleet-carbon-reduction-tool/) enables fleet decision makers to accurately access the viability of low carbon vehicles within their fleet operations. The tool is based on real world duty cycles, real world fuel consumption and real world electric vehicle range. By providing a realistic total cost of ownership, FCRT lite aims to de-risk the implementation of low carbon fleet solutions.
Following the completion of a period of transition, and with market volumes on the up, Goodyear Dunlop is aggressively pursuing sales growth, including winning some of the biggest fleets in the UK. Tyrepress spoke about the company’s expansion strategy with Goodyear UK and Ireland commercial director, Marc Preedy at the end of August.
Goodyear Dunlop has won the contract to supply tyres to Eddie Stobart, the UK’s largest haulage fleet. The five-year contract, which took effect at the start of August, sees Goodyear Dunlop supply new tyres largely based around the company’s latest generation Kmax product offering to Stobarts and will be service by the Truck Force network.

Northern Ireland tyre distributor Kerr’s Tyres has announced a new three year PPK deal with grocer Henderson Group. The deal will see Kerr’s Tyres supply, fit and maintain all Henderson tyres. The Group owns the Spar, Eurospar, Vivo and Vivoxtra franchises in Northern Ireland.
Vacu-Lug is marking its 30th year supplying tyres to Viridor, one of the UK’s leading recycling, renewable energy and waste management companies. The tyre and retread supplier will continue to support Viridor’s long term waste and recycling contract with the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority. The company has more than 200 vehicles in the fleet, including 110 lorries, 55 front end loaders, 14 fork lift container handlers and 22 wheeled excavators, managing more than 30 locations, including household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) across the Greater Manchester area.
ATS Euromaster has won a significant new contract with British Gas to fit and service tyres across the energy provider’s fleet of 13,000 vans. The Michelin-owned service provider says its nationwide network coverage, detailed fleet reporting and expertise in managing B2B accounts were crucial factors in securing this new account. As part of the agreement, ATS Euromaster will roll out a full Michelin tyre policy across the fleet; winter tyres, specifically the Agilis Alpin, will be the fitment of choice.
The share of Michelin tyres fitted to Co-operative Funeralcare’s vehicle fleet has risen from around 30 per cent in 2007 to more than 90 per cent today, and proportion of vehicles wearing Michelin rubber is likely to continue rising after Co-operative extended its agreement with the tyre maker for a further two years.
UK multimodal transport and container handling specialist Roadways Container Logistics has renewed its contract with Tyrenet. The decision follows a one year trial with the network of independent tyre service providers. Roadways’ fleet of 900 truck and trailer units will be managed by Tyrenet for the next two years under the terms of the contract.
London’s largest private minicab firm will fit Michelin tyres to its entire fleet following a three-month test on eight of its vehicles. Addison Lee previously used mid-range tyres on its 4,700 vehicles, which include such models as the Ford Galaxy and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Fleet Manager Rob Daniels explained that the longevity of Michelin-brand tyres had convinced him to make the change.
