Dawsonrentals Renews Bridgestone Tyre Contract

Dawsonrentals has extended its tyre supply agreement with Bridgestone UK Ltd for a further 3 years until 2013. Bridgestone began supplying to Dawsonrentals in 2005 and the renewal is said to represent “a major success for Bridgestone UK with the UK’s leading rental company.”

Dawsonrentals will continue to fit Bridgestone new tyres on the steer axles and “Bulldog” retreads tyres on the drive and trailer axles of its 10,000 vehicles and trailers. From April 2010, Dawsonrentals will also utilise the extended Bulldog retread line up which now includes the Firestone FD600 and TSP3000 patterns.

Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions (BBTS), a division of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, will increase prices on its Firestone, Dayton and Bandag brand products sold in the US up to 6 per cent, says Tire Review.

Bridgestone Announces US Price Increases

The price of certain Bridgestone, Firestone and associate brand passenger car and light truck tyres will rise by up to six per cent in the US market on June 1. Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO) says these increases will apply to both original equipment and replacement market products.

Brothers Open New Tyre Dealership in Florida

Scott and Michael Steadham recently opened A-1 Tire Center in Cantonment, Florida, reports Tire Review. The dealership, located at 228 South U.S. 29, offers a full line of passenger car and light truck tyres, including Bridgestone, Firestone, BF Goodrich, Michelin, Goodyear and Nitto, as well as other brands. Brake and undercar service, custom wheels and tyres also are available.

Bridgestone Issues ‘Amberstone’ Suit Statement

Bridgestone Americas has issued a statement regarding its decision to file a trademark infringement suit against Commerce Max Inc over its use of the ‘Amberstone’ tyre brand name, reports Tire Review. "We filed a lawsuit in US District Court in Nashville on 12 March, against San Benito, Texas-based Commerce Max Inc for trademark infringement, trademark dilution and unfair competition.

Firestone Natural Rubber Extends Donation Cargo Scheme

Liberia’s rubber industry is often shrouded in controversy, with various parties claiming the use of child labour and a workforce trapped in a cycle of poverty. Numerous charitable organisations are working to improve conditions for Liberians working on the nation’s lucrative rubber plantations, however, and Firestone Natural Rubber Company (FSNR) reports its intention to extend its partnership with these charities – its Donation Cargo Program – through 2010. This year’s efforts mark to ocean freight programme’s fifth year in operation.

Bridgestone Breaks Ground on New Tech Centre

Bridgestone Americas will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking tomorrow for its new $100 million technical centre in Akron, Ohio reports Tire Review. Company chairman, CEO and president Mark Emkes, as well as state and local officials, will be present. Bridgestone had debated moving near its national headquarters in Tennessee, but announced in 2008 that it had a preliminary deal to stay in Akron. That deal includes a $68 million public financing package offered by the state, county and city. The overall project, which includes a new 260,000-square-foot technical center at South Main Street and Firestone Boulevard, and neighborhood improvements, has been estimated at $102 million. The company expects workers to move into the building by late 2011 or early 2012, according to a report by the Akron Beacon Journal.

Bridgestone Americas Chief Emkes Announces Retirement

On February 12 Bridgestone Americas, Inc. (BSAM) announced the upcoming retirement of Mark A. Emkes, the company’s chairman, CEO and president, effective February 28, 2010. On that date Emkes, who has been employed at the Bridgestone family of families for more than 33 years, will also retire from his position as a member of the Boards of Directors of BSAM and parent company Bridgestone Corporation.

Bridgestone Retail Highlights 2009 Growth

BSRO, which operates Firestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus, ExpertTire and Wheel Works, opened 68 new automotive service locations across the USA in 2009, creating more than 800 new jobs. The new stores feature updated waiting rooms and consultation pods and offer improved bay spacing for customer vehicles.

Bridgestone Bandag Launches New Products, Marketing Push

Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions has introduced two new products – the Bandag brand BDR-HT3 tread and the Firestone FT455 Plus trailer tyre – in addition to a new marketing campaign, reports Tire Review. The BDR-HT3 tread is designed for LTL fleet customers operating single-axle tractors. Used in the drive axle position, it incorporates an innovative tread compound and tread pattern that resists tears and delivers outstanding mileage and exceptional wear, the company said.

Bridgestone Ups Ag Tyre Prices

Bridgestone Americas Tire Operation’s Agricultural Tire, U.S. & Canada Commercial Tire Sales division will increases prices on all Firestone branded agricultural, construction and forestry tires, as well as all Bridgestone branded garden tyres sold in the US and Canada replacement markets, reports Tire Review. The increase, effective 1 April, will be 5 per cent, with possible adjustments added in-line. “In order to remain a viable supplier in the agricultural, forestry and industrial markets, we will continue to review our pricing structure and make quarterly adjustments as needed,” said Tom Rodgers, director of marketing for the division.

C&H Hauliers Choose Bridgestone Tyres

Bridgestone UK has secured a tyre supply agreement with C&H Hauliers, part of the Charles Gee Group. C&H Hauliers will fit Firestone steer products to its fleet of more than 100 trucks, and the Bridgestone Qualitread retread on the drive axle and across the 250 trailers. The fleet will be serviced through the Truck Point network.

Greg Ward, commercial sales director, Bridgestone UK said: “We are delighted to have won the C&H Hauliers tyre contract. We have supplied Firestone tyres to this account indirectly through some of our Truck Point partners (Universal Tyres & Trinity Tyres) for many years, but the recent rapid expansion of the fleet puts the contract firmly within our “MegaFleet” environment. Universal Tyres & Trinity Tyres will continue to be a key service agent through the Bridgestone system.”

US Major League Baseball Selects Firestone as First ‘Official Tyre’

The Firestone brand has walloped a home run over the stadium wall with the signing of a multi-year agreement between Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC (BATO) and Major League Baseball Properties (MLBP) on December 18. Through the deal reached between the two parties, Firestone has become the first “Official Tire of Major League Baseball”. The agreement also marks the largest sports sponsorship for the 109-year-old Firestone brand outside of motorsports.

Trio of US Tyre Makers Raising Prices

Bridgestone, Continental and Yokohama have become the latest tyre suppliers in the US to announce price rises for consumer products. All three companies’ new prices are valid as of January 1, 2010.
