‘Obligations not fulfilled’ – Point S Development gives its side of the Dutch break-up story

In a statement released today, Point S Development has confirmed the March 2014 cancellation of the master franchise contract signed with shareholders in the Netherlands in 2010. A new Dutch headquarters, Point S Holland, has now been created. The statement arrives a day after Wim Reijmerink – managing director of the now defunct Point S Nederland operation – told Tyres & Accessories that a number of former partners were holding discussions to form their own tyre dealer cooperative.

Point S split in the Netherlands – “No winners, just losers”

For many years Point S Development has been coated in the glossy sheen of constant growth, but now a scratch has appeared in this growth story – and more than a dab of polish is needed to buff it out. The organisation’s Dutch operation is in acute danger of splitting in two as many local Point S partners consider the return on their master franchise fee too low, they see too little support coming from the company’s international headquarters and no real “European strategy”, and they wish to renegotiate their contracts. But the two shareholders in Point S Development – the national Point S organisations in France and Germany – appear uninterested in revising terms and conditions in the Netherlands, and therefore some Dutch partners are negotiating new franchise contracts elsewhere. Should Point S partners in other markets follow suit, we may see a process that results in no winners, rather only losers.

ATS Euromaster implores council to reconsider Altrincham closure decision

A council decision that will force the closure of ATS Euromaster’s Altrincham branch has been described as “madness” by the fast fit network’s group estates manager. The company hopes to convince Trafford Council to either allow the outlet to co-exist alongside the new £70 million development in Oakfield Road, or otherwise invite ATS Euromaster to be a part of the project.

A.T.U. sold in restructuring deal

German-owned fast-fit network A.T.U. reports reaching a “decisive milestone in its financial repositioning.” The loss-making company’s management and majority shareholder (private equity group KKR) have reached a lock-up agreement with more than 80 per cent of its key bond creditors to reduce A.T.U.’s debt by more than €600 million and inject some €100 million of fresh equity into the firm. In addition, A.T.U. has received a senior secured, 2018-due credit line of more than €75 million from HayFin Capital Management.

ATS Euromaster opens flagship centre

ATS Euromaster has opened what it calls a flagship centre in on the Gatwick International Industrial Estate in Crawley, West Sussex following more than £450,000 of investment. The new facility occupies a 7,574 square foot site and is set up to accommodate all vehicle types under one roof, including cars, vans, trucks, buses/coaches and industrial vehicles. Its opening follows the merger of two former centres in the local area; one of which serviced cars and vans, and the other commercial vehicles.

Kwik Fit introduces ‘plus’ concept, offers more ‘slow fit’ servicing

Kwik Fit is showing signs that at least part of the vast independent fast fit network is evolving in the direction of autocentre style garages. According to online news sources this is part of a bid to increasingly target fleet business – an area the business is historically strong in – with the offer of servicing and mechanical work.

Australian fast fit pioneer loses family money feud

Bob Jane, founder of the Australian fast fit network that still bears his name, lost twice over in the state of Victoria’s Supreme Court on 9 August. Not only did Justice Michael Sifris dismiss his claim for AU$2.9 million he says is owed to him, the ruling further embittered the 83 year old’s feelings towards the defendant – his son, Rodney.

IGA to offer onsite diagnostic training

The Independent Garage Association (IGA) is set to launch its onsite diagnostic training later this year. Following on from the success of their hybrid training which has so far seen the IGA deliver free training to over 1,250 technicians at more than 500 individual member garages, they are positioned to launch diagnostics training later in 2013.

The unique model will involve IGA staff visiting garages and training technicians to make the best use of their own equipment in "real world" diagnostic situations on customer's cars.

ATS Euromaster signs network partnership agreements

ATS Euromaster has entered into network partnership agreements in mid-Wales and Northern Ireland; the first of their type to be established by the company. ATS will work in “close partnership” with Huw Lewis Tyres and Modern Tyre Service, of whom ATS-E states that they are well-respected independent tyre retailers which share ATS’ focus on quality, safety and customer service. ATS says the partnerships aim to provide local service to its fleet customers in towns and communities where there is currently no ATS Euromaster presence.
