Falken supporting grass roots motorsport in northwest England

Sumitomo Rubber Industries high performance tyre brand Falken is to supply its ZIEX ZE912 tyre to two grass roots motorsport series in the northwest of England, after agreeing to a new sponsorship and support scheme. Drivers in the Association of North Western Car Clubs (ANWCC) K11 Micra Challenge and the Under 17 Motor AutoSOLO Championship for Standard Cars will have access to free and subsidised tyres to qualifying competitors and others involved with the championship respectively.

Southam Tyres adds Falken 4×4 tyre to range

Micheldever’s 4×4 tyre specialist distributor Southam Tyres has announced that it will add the Falken WildPeak WP/AT01 all-terrain tyre to its range. Falken Tyres UK director, Matt Smith says: “Falken will be adding more size ranges for the UK replacement market in order to meet the demand for performance 4×4 and SUV tyres.”

Dunlop comments on BluResponse testing success

Dunlop’s new Sport BluResponse tyre was launched in Dubai earlier this year (see Tyres & Accessories’ February edition), but it has already achieved some excellent results in European magazine tests. In full summer tyres tests conducted by Germany’s GTÜ organisation for ACE Magazine, Auto Bild and AutoZeitung, the tyre was awarded leading positions, while Britain’s Auto Express also lauded the new tyre’s performance characteristics within its product pages. Dunlop brand manager Andy Marfleet commented that the results “suggest that we have a real winner on our hands.”

Falken Motorsports unveils upgraded VLN Porsche

Falken Motorsports shares that it will field its Porsche 997 GT3 R in this year’s VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring and Nürburgring 24 Hours events. It says a raft of performance upgrades for its Porsche have been carried out and, coupled with an unchanged driver line up of Sebastian Asch, Peter Dumbreck, Wolf Henzler and Martin Ragginger, Falken Motorsports says it holds the “clear aim of a top ten finish in the 24 Hour event.”

Another tyre test honour for Michelin Energy Saver +

Following on from its highly rated performance in the ADAC summer tyre test, Michelin’s Energy Saver + has claimed a top ranking in another German auto publication. Gute Fahrt’s summer tyre test awarded the tyre top place with a "very good -" rating overall. Comparing twelve 205/55R16 W tyres on a Volkswagen Touran, Gute Fahrt judged the Energy Saver + to deliver the best all-round performance in wet and dry conditions.

Falken liveried Hot Wheels car available

The Falken Tire brand has been immortalised on a new Hot Wheels toy car model. The tyre manufacturer’s blue and teal livery kits out a model of the 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, and can be found alongside the rest of the new Hot Wheels range in toy retailers.

GTÜ, Autoclub recommend Dunlop, Vredestein, Falken tyres

Germany’s largest officially recognised inspection organisation the Gesellschaft für Technische Überwachung (GTÜ) and Autoclub Europa (ACE) have conducted extensive summer tyre testing, giving the Dunlop BluResponse its highest recommendation, with the Vredestein Sportrac 5 in second place. One tyre receiving a “recommended” rating at a lower price point was the Falken ZIEX ZE914 Ecorun. The summer tyre received the rating by achieving an above-average environmental score at a low price to performance ratio.

Falken Tyres Sincera SN831A OE on Škoda Citigo

The Škoda Citigo will roll off the production line fitted with Falken Tyres’ Sincera SN831A Ecorun. The Japanese tyre manufacturer has been increasing its OEM business this year, including deals to supply the tyre to the Seat Mii and the Volkswagen Up!, as well as having its Eurowinter HS449 winter tyre approved for Polo fitment, making this the fourth VW Group vehicle to run on Falken tyres as standard since June 2012. Falken supplies a 165/70R14 81T tyre to the Czech manufacturer.

Falken OE for Seat Mii

Falken Tyre Europe reports that its Sincera SN831A Ecorun, which is already supplied as original equipment for the Volkswagen Up!, has now been chosen by the Volkswagen Group for fitment on the Seat Mii. As is the case for the Up!, the small Seat will receive the Sincera SN831A in size 165/70R14 81T.

Falken offers online tyre label ‘configurator’

Falken is now offering consumers easy access to online tyre performance data via its so-called “configurator.” Information for both car and truck tyres is available at Falken’s new website (www.falken-europe.com). The website also offers the ability to print out the tyre label, making it easy to compare performance against other tyres.

Falken motorsport development showcased by Pikes Peak Hillclimb

Falken continued its programmes in the German VLN championship and Nürburgring 24 Hours, UK and Europe drifting championships as well as the American Le Mans Series, while a major development project for the Japanese tyre maker was its return to Pikes Peak with tyres for an electric car. At the Nürburgring Falken returned its Porsche 997 GT3 R with a new 2013 tyre compound and construction. Pole in an early round suggested the team had pace but the car went off in the rain, forced to retire. In the ALMS, Falken’s Porsche faired better, scoring a victory at Baltimore.

Maxxis tyre supplied Japspeed take 2012 BDC honours

The Maxxis-sponsored and -supplied Team Japspeed won an emphatic victory in the 2012 Maxxis British Drift Championship, clinching both the drivers’ and constructors’ titles. The six-round series, which attracted drivers from all the home nations as well as Ireland, Holland, Germany, Portugal, Belgium and Norway, reached a thrilling climax at Knockhill in Dunfermline, as Paul “Smokey” Smith was crowned British Drift Champion 2012. With all four Maxxis-sponsored Team Japspeed drivers finishing in the top ten – Shane O’Sullivan was third while Stephen “Baggsy” Biagioni and Shane Lynch ended their campaigns in fifth and seventh place respectively – it came as no surprise that Team Japspeed were convincing winners of the constructors title.

Falken winter tyre approved for European Polo models

At June’s Reifen trade show in Germany, Falken Tyre Europe shared that Volkswagen had selected its Sincera SN831A in size 165/70R14 81T for its new compact model, the ‘Up!’. The car maker has now selected another Falken product as original equipment, this time for the Polo; in certain European markets the Eurowinter HS449 winter tyre will be fitted to the Polo in size 185/60 R15 85H.

Falken Drift Team set world record

Falken Drift Team driver Lars Verbraeken has set a new Guinness World Record as the fastest drifter, driving his Falken-shod 503ps BMW E30 at a speed of 111.59 mph, whilst keeping the car at a 45º angle for a distance of over 50 metres.

Falken appoints Matt Smith as UK & Ireland head

Following news of his departure from South Korean manufacturer Kumho yesterday, Falken has appointed Matt Smith to lead its activities in the UK and Ireland. Smith brings with him over 15 years’ experience working in the UK tyre industry. Smith is tasked with building sales of Falken’s fresh tyre range that includes five new launches since the start of the year.
