Falken has expanded its range of tyres suitable for use in cold weather conditions. The brand has added the Euroall Season AS220 Pro all-season tyre to its range and increased the available sizes of its Eurowinter HS02 and HS02 Pro winter tyres, available now in 45 and 74 sizes respectively.
All-season tyres are a logical choice for smaller vehicles primarily used in urban areas, and for this reason, it is surprising that few tyre tests focus on fitments for cars such as these. Tyre Reviews addressed this in its 2023 all-season test, looking at ten tyres in size 195/65 R15. Site founder and resident tester Jonathan Benson fitted these to a VW Golf 7 and evaluated the tyres’ performance in dry, wet and snowy conditions as well as for comfort and value.
The Falken Eurowinter HS02 and HS02 Pro ranges have grown since their arrival last winter and are now respectively available in 45 and 74 dimensions. For this winter, they’re joined by a new all-season tyre, the Falken Euroall Season AS220 Pro. Designed to perform all year round and available in Europe since mid-September, Euroall Season AS220 Pro is aimed specifically at performance-oriented vehicles.
AutoBild Allrad’s 2023 test of 10 all-season SUV tyres gave four tyres the top “exemplary” grade, with two joint-winners. In Germany, all-season tyres have grown with the most recent product generations’ improved technology, despite the traditional strength of its seasonal tyre change market. The magazine, one of Germany’s leading consumer automotive publications, said the top-ranking tyres in its latest test have “matured into true heroes of road traffic.” At the other end of the scale, three of the size 235/65 R17 108 V/W tyres were described as “not recommended”, while three other tyres gained “satisfactory” and “good” final verdicts. So which all-season products could AutoBild Allrad “unreservedly recommend” to motorists?
A new tyre has joined the Falken Euroall Season line-up, and Falken Tyre Europe tells us that this product is “designed specifically for high-performance vehicles,” with development focusing on “good all-round winter performance.” The Falken Euroall Season AS220 Pro is available in a range of 46 dimensions.
Whether a van is powered by internal combustion or electricity, the demands placed on its tyres remain consistent. Therefore rather than developing specific electric light commercial tyres, Falken is improving the efficiency and durability of its van tyres to enable its range to support ongoing ICE vehicle utilisation and the transition to electric-powered models alike. Falken will expand its car and SUV tyre lines with a wide range of new fitment options this spring. The Sumitomo Rubber Industries brand will offer 10 new sizes of its Azenis FK510 ultra-high performance tyre, 22 new XL sizes of its Euroall Season AS210 all-season tyre, and 17 new all-terrain tyre sizes in its Wildpeak range.
The improvement in the quality of all-season tyres has supported their sustained growth in Europe. While the latest test by the DACH region’s leading auto clubs continued to characterise the product as an unrecommended compromise, German magazine ratings this year have been much less snooty about the segment. Joining the UK’s leading consumer testers in praising the latest generation of year-round fitments, was AutoBild, among the industry’s most coveted ratings, while the most recent Sportauto test gave six out of the seven candidates “good” or even “very good” overall grades. The test acknowledges the advantages of seasonal rubber via two Bridgestone control tyres, the Turanza T005 summer tyre and the Blizzak LM005, but also points out the “amazing qualities” of the seven test subjects on cold-wet and cold-dry roads. The seven all-season tyres were tested in size 225/45 R18 on a BMW 330i.
Falken Tyre Europe has launched its 2020 “Falken says Tanke” promotional campaign in Germany, Austria and other European core markets. From 15 September to 30 November, customers will receive a 20-euro prepaid card for refueling and shopping when buying Falken winter or all-season tyres in participating retailers. In addition, participants from Germany have the chance to win one of 25 Shell fuel vouchers worth 100 euros. There are also 100 opportunities to win the Shell V-Power Smart Deal, worth 119.99 euros, allowing winners to fill up with V-Power fuels at the price of standard fuels. Falken is also giving away a total of 17 pairs of Dalbello ski boots in the Benelux countries, Germany, Austria, and Poland. These boots come with a co-polymer sole named “GripWalk”, providing extra snow grip – an analogy to winter tyres’ performance on snow.
Falken Tyre will launch three new tyre models for three distinct applications from its stand (Hall 7, Area A) at The Tire Cologne (29 May – 1 June). The new tyres are the Euroall Season AS210 car tyre, the Euroall Season VAN11 for light trucks and vans, and the Wildpeak M/T01 4×4 tyre for off-road use.
