Butler to Double in Size

Based near Modena, Italy, Butler Engineering & Marketing originated in 1988. It started as an entrepreneurial venture by a few people with a common vision to change the way tyres were fitted, bringing into line the technical developments of the tyre, wheel and automotive industries. Now almost nineteen years later, Butler is doubling the size of its facilities. By the end of 2007 Butler plans to have expanded from its current 9000 square metres to a site covering approximately 20,000 square metres.

Judge Restricts Protests at Goodyear Factory

A judge in the US city of Topeka has imposed restrictions on union members picketing the city’s Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. facility after Goodyear directed accusations of vandalism and harassment against them them. Shawnee County District Judge Charles Andrews issued a restraining order that prohibits the United Steelworkers union from having more than 25 pickets in front of the factory at any time. It also forbids union members from harassing Goodyear’s temporary employees or damaging property.

Striking Workers Offer to Supply Military

According to USW union officials some striking Goodyear workers may yet return to the company’s Topeka plant to build Humvee tyres for the US military. However the union insists that Goodyear must fire the plant’s temporary workers before any such move is made.

Production of Humvee tyres at the Topeka factory has dropped by 35 per cent since the strike began, creating a shortage for the military.

Amtel-Vredestein Obtains Credit for Moscow Tyre Plant Acquisition

Europe’s fourth largest tyre producer, Amtel-Vredestein N.V. announced that its subsidiary, OJSC Amtel-Vredestein, along with CJSC Moscow Tyre Plant-M have secured three lines of credit totalling almost £39 million with the Russian Federation’s Sberbank in order to finance costs associated with its acquisition of the Moscow Tyre Plant. These costs include the restructuring and refinancing of the factory’s debts.

Swift Handling with Goodyear

Goodyear is claiming its Eagle F1 tyre has won more independent tyre tests in its category than any other tyre, and now Suzuki have chosen the award winning tyre for their latest hot hatch, the Suzuki Swift Sport. Every Swift Sport that leaves the factory will have Goodyear Eagle F1 as standard equipment. Former F1 driver Tiff Needell was thrilled by the handling of the Goodyear Eagle F1 equipped Swift on TV’s 5th Gear recently: “Across the Brecon Beacons I wanted to find out if the Swift was as much fun as a Ferrari or Porsche. The Swift feels alive, it feels frisky” raved Needell. The Swift Sport is fitted with 195/50R16 or 195/45R17 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD-3 tyres as original equipment.

Tenneco Expands Capacity, Coverage For Quick-Strut Assembly

(Akron/Tire Review) Tenneco Inc. announced the third expansion of production capacity and an increase in application coverage for its Monroe Quick-Strut assembly, a fully assembled replacement strut for late-model passenger vehicles. Tenneco has added a third Quick-Strut assembly production cell to its ride-control manufacturing facility in Paragould, Ark., to accommodate increased demand.

Bucking The Trend – Tym International

Tym International is based in Kings Lynn Norfolk and proudly boasts that it is one company that has bucked the trend in the last four years by continually improving sales of truck tyres by an average of 32 per cent. This year the company says that Triangle brand sales are already up 100 per cent on 2005.

Italian Michelin Facility Gets New Generator

Elyo Italia recently purchased an LM6000-PD aeroderivative gas turbine generator and 12-year contractual service agreement (CSA) from GE Energy’s aeroderivative business for a combined heat and power (CHP) plant located within the Michelin tyre manufacturing facility in Cuneo, Italy.

Dispute Over Power Bill Shuts Dunlop India Factory

A mere two months after Dunlop India’s Ambattur factory restarted production, a cut in power supply has halted work yet again. The plant had recently reopened after eight years when the Ruia Group acquired the ailing tyre company. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) cut supply to the plant at the end of October as current consumption charges for September were unpaid, thus halting production at the factory.

Fire at C-Tyres

More than 300 tyres were destroyed and a building damaged when a fire swept through a County Durham factory. According to BBC reports, three fire crews spent Tuesday night (31 October) at C-Tyres on the Littleburn Industrial Estate at Langley Moor, County Durham tackling the blaze. Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said a metal container and a single storey factory building were also damaged. Officers are reportedly investigating the cause of the fire.

Further Romanian Investment For Pirelli?

Following its recent 170-million euros investment in a tyre production factory in Romania, it seems that the Italian company may be on the verge of investing a further 70 million euros in a plant to produce filters for diesel engines, according to local media reports. The country manager of Pirelli Romania, Guglielmo Fiocchi, is quoted as saying: “Next year we could start the construction of a new plant for production of filters for diesel engines in Gorj, with the actual production most likely to begin early in 2008, if the project is approved.”

Pirelli “Super Single” For Light Trucks At SEMA

Many in the US tyre business were expecting Pirelli to come to SEMA 2006 with a 32″ Scorpion Zero tyre, following its success with the 30″ version first shown at the New York Auto Show this year. Not so, as Pirelli decided to think more laterally (in every sense of the word). What Pirelli has brought to this year’s SEMA show in a world “first” is a 405/25R24 Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico, a trend setting idea for a ‘Super Single’ tyre for light trucks.

Diamond Jubilee For BFG’s Tuscaloosa Plant

The BFGoodrich factory at Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is celebrating 60 years of operation. The tyre plant, which makes tyres from 14″ car to 20″ truck, was for some time the largest employer in the city and today still employs close to 1,400 workers.

Maywood and Omer Become Exclusive UK Partners

Maywood Equipment Group has announced that it will now be the sole UK importer of Omer scissor lifts up to and including five tonnes. Miriam Rossato, marketing and sales manager for Omer commented: “Maywood is the perfect partner for us in The UK. They are prepared to invest in holding stock and have excellent delivery arrangements which often is a problem with large scissor lifts.”

Gavin Masterton, director of Maywood responded by saying “We could not have a better partner for scissor lifting than Omer. They respond very quickly to all our. They even sent an engineer to Dundee in Scotland to resolve a very complicated wheel alignment levelling system! Their range of lifts is the most comprehensive and we will be launching even more models early next year.”

Tire Factory Hires New Operations Officer

(Akron/Tire Review) Portland-based Tire Factory has hired Anthony Showen as its new chief operations officer. Showen joins Tire Factory with more than 15 years of experience in operations and manufacturing. Tire Factory is a marketing group with some 180 retail locations in 11 western US states.
