Federal's First Asymmetric HP Sport Tyre

Federal has introduced the 595RPM; the company's first ever asymmetric tyre engineered particularly for passionate driving enthusiasts and aimed at drivers of sports sedans, providing new levels of performance and luxury. Development of the 595RPM utilised computer simulations in a range of conditions to optimise a rounded tread profile for a quiet and pleasant ride.

Four drainage grooves provide improved stability, while maintaining a consistent footprint in wet. The asymmetrical tread pattern enhanced within the inner and outer shoulder areas ensures a smooth pace, with efficient water displacement to reduce the risk of aquaplaning and decrease rolling noise without affecting controllability.

Scorpion Launches Audi S3 2.0T Exhaust System

Scorpion has released its latest exhaust design, a cat-back system for the Audi S3 2.0t Quattro model introduced in 2007. While the S3 is already fast car in its original guise, Scorpion believes that the addition of its latest system will noticeably improve mid-range grunt and throttle response, plus give the car the sound that punters want.

Russian Nokian Workers Given Chance to Become ‘Village’ People

Nokian tyres has unveiled its brand new housing complex built for workers at its factory in Vsevolozhsk, Russia. Known as ‘Hakkapeliitta Village’, the 167 apartments are located some ten kilometres from the plant and cover a total area of 10,300 square metres. The company has invested more than ten million euros into the project in the aim of attracting and retaining qualified staff at the facility; a Nokian press release explains that in exchange for a commitment to remain at the plant for at least seven years, employees can purchase an apartment within the complex for substantially less than the average market price.

Bridgestone Australia Welcomes Government Assistance Package

Bridgestone Australia says it welcomes an October 27 announcement by South Australian Premier Mike Rann offering State and Federal Government assistance for employees affected by the closure of the company’s Salisbury factory. The state Premier outlined the package during discussions with senior Bridgestone executives, and according to Bridgestone Australia senior executive director Andrew Moffatt the assistance offered will “complement” the company’s stated commitment to its employees.

Hankook Evaluates Southeast Asian Sites for New Plant

Hankook Tire intends to build a new factory – its sixth overseas plant – somewhere in Southeast Asia. South Korea’s Yonhap news reports company CEO Suh Seung-hwa as stating on October 23 that Hankook may spend between US$250 million and $300 million building the new facility, which is expected to have an annual capacity of ten million units.

Dunlop to Help Top Gear Put on a Gripping Show

Top Gear is taking its live show around the world, with events planned in Birmingham, London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Sydney, Auckland and Hong Kong. And when Clarkson, May, Hammond and Stig hit the road, they will be taking Dunlop with them: The tyre maker has announced its selection as official tyre partner for the Top Gear Live World Tour.

Goodyear to Sell Luxembourg Steel Cord Plant

Goodyear has openly stated its desire to sell the company’s Luxembourg steel cord factory. As it disclosed to the “Luxemburger Wort” newspaper, talks with “four potential buyers” are underway, including with Belgium’s Bekaert, global top supplier of steel cord. The newspaper adds that the wire plant’s sale could be interpreted to be part of “Goodyear’s new management policy, one it wants in future to focus as far as possible concentrate upon the core business of tyre production, a change in strategy that Goodyear’s employees were recently informed about through an internal notice.” A company spokesperson told the newspaper that no contracts have been made and no offer as yet given. A buyer has also not yet been selected.

Alliance India Factory Gearing Up for Commercial Production

Commercial production of agricultural tyres at Alliance Tire’s factory in Tirunelveli, India is anticipated to begin before the end of 2009 following the recent commencement of start-up test production. The first products from the US$100 million plant are expected to be cross-ply off-road tyres, and the start of manufacture in India is anticipated to allow Alliance to increase radial production in Israel.

Sheffield Tyre Reclamation Plant Burns

Mancton Rubber Technologies – a tyre reclamation facility in Sheffield – has been aflame since 22:00 on 13 October and reports suggest that it could continue throughout the remainder of today after firefighters agreed to allow the fire to burn out. The 60 firefighters and nine engines at the scene are concentrating their efforts on cooling structures around the Stevenson Road, Atercliffe factory, using water from the River Don to prevent steelwork constructions from collapsing. Police say they will investigate the causes of the fire when it is no longer ablaze.

Pirelli Working With Developer on Burton Retail Site Development

Pirelli is cooperating with a property developer on plans to build a housing estate on the site of its Burton factory’s former retail division. Developer St. Modwen Properties, who purchased a 21-acre plot from Pirelli in 2005 and a further nine acres in 2007, intends to construct around 200 houses on a 20-acre site.

Eibach Releases 370Z Suspension Upgrade

The handling qualities of the latest Nissan 370Z have received a tweak from suspension specialist Eibach. The company’s new Pro-Kit spring upgrade lowers the car by up to 40mm, giving it what Eibach calls a more “aggressive” stance and allowing the factory alloys to better fill the wheel arches. However the kit is not all show and no go, notes Eibach; the 370Z’s new, lower centre of gravity endows it with sharper steering responses and far less body roll.

Dunlop to Recommence Production in Nigeria

Following the importation of 500 million naira (£2.1 million) worth of raw materials, Dunlop Nigeria looks set to re-open its Ikeja facility, which ceased production in April. A report in Nigeria’s Business Day newspaper indicates that the paperwork needed to clear the imported materials through customers is currently being dealt with by the country’s minister of state for commerce and industry, Humphrey Enemakwu Abah, who is apparently enthusiastic about the prospects of local manufacture recommencing.

Cobra Releases Mini Cooper Suspension Kit

Cobra has released a full complement of suspension upgrade products for the new Mini Cooper and Cooper S intended to, as the company explains, remove the compromises of the standard suspension set-up and boost steering precision and driver feedback. The lowered springs, says Cobra, work in harmony with the factory damper units to lower the car by approximately 35mm at the front and 30mm at the rear. This improved centre of gravity reduces body roll and improves turn-in. Thanks to the spring’s unique properties, compliance is retained almost at factory levels. Appearances however are not, and Cobra notes the Mini takes on a far more aggressive stance and its wheels really fill the arches. The kit comes with a five-year warranty on fit and finish and prices start at £140 including VAT.

Trayal Workers Strike Over Unpaid Wages

Workers at the Serbian Trayal tyre factory have gone on strike over unpaid wages. Production is said to be at a standstill. According to the Sofia News Agency, 700 of the 2100 total work force have gathered at the factory gate, near where the managers’ offices are, and demanded immediate payment. The local union leader stated that this is their last chance to accomplish anything before the busy winter season takes hold.

Scorpion Unleashes VW Scirocco Exhaust System

Another recent release from Scorpion is the latest system for the VW Scirocco Tdi. The Midlands based manufacturer chose to produce this particular Scirocco system first due to the strong sales enjoyed by the diesel version of the Volkswagen coupe.
