Stolen Maxxis Impreza returned to Team Japspeed

The Maxxis-sponsored Team Japspeed 1JZ Subaru Impreza has been found and will be returned to the team after it was stolen on Sunday, 12 June from the Performance Vauxhall Show. Maxxis International UK stated that Thames Valley Police found the vehicle early on Monday, 13 June in the Reading area. The Impreza was being used at the Santa Pod Raceway as a display vehicle for the Maxxis display. It had been stripped of its bumper, rear spoiler and rear lights as well as its identifying stickers.

Kumho unveils German Facebook page

Kumho Tire Europe GmbH has launched a new Facebook page for its fans in German-speaking markets, www.facebook.com/KumhoTireEurope. The company says the page includes sections dedicated to its tyres, motorsport and football, plus event-specific sections such as the IAA 2011 show or the upcoming Kumho Winter Experience 2012. In addition, as exclusive partner to the Bundesliga team HSV, Kumho Tyres will offer sweepstake prizes that include VIP tickets for the 2011/2012 season. Another current offer is VIP tickets to this year’s 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.

Toyo Tires releases downloadable wallpaper

Team Toyo has launched a promotional range of downloadable computer wallpapers, depicting off-road star Robby Gordon; Toyo-sponsored UFC lightweight, Anthony “Showtime” Pettis; Toyo models and import racing. A total of six wallpapers, designed for use on desktop computers and a range of portable devices, are available for download on the company’s website and from its Facebook page.

Nankang employees contribute to Japan disaster aid

Taiwan based tyre maker Nankang Rubber Tire Corp. reports its management and employees raised two million yen (£15,000) for the Japan Red Cross in order to aid victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami. “After the March 11 earthquake hit, our eyes, hearts and browser windows have been trained on Japan,” Nankang commented in a press statement. “As one of global citizens, we just do our responsibility to express our deepest condolences to the suffered people.”

Metzeler launches ‘ride experience’ online

Bike tyre manufacturer Metzeler has launched a new interactive blogging website with stories, images and videos contributed by a diverse line-up of its racers and adventurers. Ridexperience.com has reports from multi World Enduro Champion David Knight, trials legend Dougie Lampkin, Metzeler Superstock Champion Jon Kirkham, around the World explorer Tiffany Coates and stunt girl team ‘Stunt Starz’ amongst others. Since their launch in 2007, Metzeler says its community websites have “grown in numbers and gathered momentum all over the world”.

Maxxis Sponsors 2011 British Drift Championship

Maxis has announced that it will continue its title sponsorship of the British Drift Championship in the 2011 series. The brand’s purpose-designed MA-Z1 Drift tyres will once again be used in the championship, having scored numerous wins and podium places. Maxxis International says it aims to build on these achievements this year, which gets underway with the meeting at Donington Park on 22-23 April. “Since we began our association with the British Drift Championship in 2009 it has really moved on, enhancing its standing within the drift world as it successfully established itself as a vehicle for the best in multi-class drifting throughout Britain,” says Maxxis International UK’s managing director Derek McMartin.

GfK Data Shows Mobile Internet Behaviour

HiQ Mascot Signs Up for Charity Run

Some say he is HiQ’s answer to the Stig, and unlike his television counterpart he’s unlikely to publish a book revealing his secret identity. All we know is, he’s called HiQ Bertie, and he is getting involved with the fast-fitter’s Project Pink campaign for Breast Cancer Care. The HiQ mascot is known to hundreds through his presence on the company’s Facebook page, and HiQ says he has captured the imagination of so many people that he has decided to get involved in fundraising activities.

The company will promote the site on an outdoor billboard, where people can use their smartphones to snap a specialised Microsoft tag to link directly to the content.

Blessed to Provide Sat Nav Voice for TomTom

Beloved British thespian Brian Blessed is to take on a new role as an optional voice for TomTom satellite navigation systems. The company was swayed by a Facebook campaign, in which 25,000 social networkers felt the best use of their time was to build a petition for Prince Vultan from 1980s cult film favourite Flash Gordon to tell them when they’re driving the wrong way in his signature booming baritone.

Tyrepress.com Publishes 20,000th Story

Last week tyrepress.com, the tyre and wheel business’s most popular website, published its 20,000th story since going online in 1998. Starting with only occasional reports on major news stories, tyrepress.com now publishes between 10 and 15 stories every working day – a number so substantial that the site has at the time of writing published another 100 stories since the milestone was reached earlier in July. All stories published on the website can be found under the “News” tab on the current website, where readers can browse stories by category.

Bridgestone India Safety Campaign Backed by Web Game

Bridgestone’s campaign to increase the safety consciousness of drivers in India has been reinforced with a new website. The site – www.thinkbeforeyoudrive.in – offers a simple Flash “Survivor Race” game, illustrating the gremlins lining India’s roads; a “Crash Test Garage”, which amusingly illustrates the dangers of driving without a seatbelt and other foolish mistakes; a section of “Safety Tips”, including downloads; and the ubiquitous link to join Bridgestone India on social networking websites Facebook and Twitter.
