Silverstone could not be more different to Austria – Pirelli

The British grand prix takes place at Silverstone the weekend after Pirelli’s visit to Austria, but the manufacturer’s tyre selection is an indicator of the different challenges posed by famous circuit. The Formula One tyre supplier will bring its P Zero Orange hard, White medium, and Yellow soft tyres to the UK – its hardest possible tyre selection – the week after supplying its softest selection to teams in Austria. Accordingly, Pirelli states tha the two events “could not be more different.”

Pirelli on Vettel tyre failure: “no signs of fatigue or structural failure”

Pirelli has blamed Sebastian Vettel’s tyre failure during the Austrian grand prix on debris. The F1 tyre supplier said its analysis of the tyre issue had concluded that “the issue appears to be caused by an item of debris, which led to the breakage of the tyre.”

Pirelli lays out F1 test calendar for wider 2017 tyres

Pirelli has revealed its first test of the new, wider 2017 specification Formula One tyres will be on 1-2 August at Ferrari’s Fiorano circuit, near Modena in northern Italy. The tyre supplier will use a modified Ferrari SF15-T, at the test, during which the track will be artificially dampened in order to carry out tests with Cinturato intermediate and full wet tyres. Testing will continue immediately on 3-4 August, when Red Bull will test the new P Zero slick tyres at Mugello.

Pirelli reveals F1 drivers’ tyre choices for Silverstone

England’s out of Euro 2016 and soon to be out of the European Union as well, but at least it has the British Grand Prix to look forward to. The event, which was originally scheduled to take place on 24 to 26 June, will now be held between 8 and 10 July. Pirelli has released an infographic showing each driver’s tyre choices for the round at Silverstone.

Pirelli to take softest compounds to Austria grand prix

Pirelli will bring its three softest P Zero F1 compounds – soft, supersoft and ultrasoft – to the Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, describing the track as “probably the closest that Formula One comes to a rally stage.” Big changes of elevation and a sequence of fast and twisty corners coalesce with unpredictable weather and the grand prix’s roots in the 1969 Osterreichring, which gives the track quite an old-school character.

Pirelli confirms 3-year Formula One extension

Pirelli has confirmed its expected three-year extension to its tenure as exclusive tyre supplier to the FIA Formula One World Championship. The deal was completed over the winter, with both parties working with the teams to agree changes to the technical regulations from 2017, including significant changes to the bodywork and wider tyres.

Pirelli signs new FIA Action for Road Safety campaign agreement

The FIA and Pirelli have signed a new four-year agreement in support of the FIA’s Action for Road Safety campaign. As a global partner of the campaign, Pirelli will promote the FIA’s ‘10 Golden Rules’ for road safety through all of its networks. Pirelli will also organise training programmes, as well as projects to raise awareness on safe driving, in collaboration with a selection of FIA Member Clubs.

First Azerbaijan grand prix won by Rosberg after high temperatures increase stops

Nico Rosberg piloted his Mercedes to a convincing win at the first grand prix in Azerbaijan. The championship leader started from pole and stopped just once, passing from supersoft to soft tyres, without ever losing the lead. While some cars were forced to stop twice due to the higher than expected temperatures, Pirelli said that tyre degradation was lower than expected. The top six finishers all started on the P Zero Red supersoft, stopping once to change to the P Zero Yellow soft tyre between laps 8 and 21. These soft tyre stints therefore lasted up to 43 laps, the number achieved by Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.

Kerbs ‘welded’ following F1 tyre safety fears

Formula One’s first visit to Baku, Azerbaijan is continuing on schedule, despite concerns over cuts found on several teams’ left-rear tyres in the first free practice session. FIA F1 director Charlie Whiting told UK broadcaster Sky Sports that bolts holding together the kerbs at turns Six and 12 had “come loose”, causing the cuts. To resolve the issue, track workers have “taken the bolts out and welded the kerbs to each other.”

Pirelli ready for debut in Baku

The Grand Prix of Europe takes place in Baku, Azerbaijan this weekend, the first time that a Formula One round has been held at this venue. For tyre supplier Pirelli, this means reliance upon simulation and acquired information rather than real data, and this makes the task of nominating tyres more complex. Based on the information at hand, Pirelli has nominated its medium, soft and supersoft tyres.

Pirelli travels to Canadian grand prix with P Zero Purple ultrasoft

For the seventh round of the 2016 Formula One World Championship, Pirelli will supply its new P Zero Purple ultrasoft for the second time, following its debut in Monaco. As a low-grip circuit with high track evolution, Canada’s semi-permanent Circuit Gilles Villeneuve provides a good opportunity to test out the Monaco tyre allocation (the three softest Pirelli P Zero F1 tyres) in a different context; the tyres will be used at higher speeds and with higher loads, generating higher temperatures and putting increased energy through the tyres. The circuit is also known for its high kerbs, making it a test of the tyres’ construction as well is their tread compounds.

Wider, bigger footprint, faster: Pirelli reveals 2017 tyres

Pirelli presented its new 2017 tyre size at Monte Carlo during the Monaco grand prix. The supplier described the new tyre size as a significant technical change that also has an effect on the balance and aesthetics of the cars that will compete next year. 2017 will be the first season in Pirelli’s latest three-year agreement to supply Formula One.

Lewis Hamilton gives Pirelli P Zero Purple ultrasoft win on race debut

Though the Monaco Grand Prix got underway behind a safety car in wet conditions, with all drivers starting on the Cinturato Blue full wet tyres, Lewis Hamilton won on Pirelli’s new P Zero Purple ultrasoft, marking a successful race debut for Pirelli’s newest F1 tyre. The safety car came in after seven laps, with most drivers eventually switching to intermediates. Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton was one of just two competitors to stay out on the full wets as the circuit dried, switching straight to P Zero Purple ultrasoft on lap 31.

Pirelli to supply softest 3 compounds in Singapore

Pirelli will bring its P Zero Yellow soft, Red supersoft, and Purple ultrasoft Formula One tyres to the fifteenth round of the 2016 Formula One season in Singapore. Pirelli mandates one set of the Yellow soft and Red supersoft tyres must be used during the race, while one set of the Purple ultrasoft tyres are assigned to the third qualifying round.

Pirelli previews 3rd Russian grand prix at low-tyre degradation Sochi circuit

Pirelli will take its medium, soft and supersoft compounds to the Russian Grand Prix at Sochi, marking the fourth time in as many races in 2016 to feature the Red, Yellow and White P Zero Formula One tyres. The varied, technical track has a smooth surface that typically leads to low tyre wear and degradation, but Pirelli says its nomination will deal with any evolution of the three-year old asphalt that may have occurred since 2015’s visit, or indeed across the weekend, since the circuit is not heavily used.
