Normal operations resume at Evonik’s C4 plant in Antwerp

According to a statement issued by chemical company Evonik Industries this week, its C4 integrated production facility in Antwerp site was successfully restarted earlier this month. It added that “thanks to the extraordinary performance of the operating team,” the facility was able to resume normal operation in mid-June.

Explosion in Schaeffler plant – 13 injured

An explosion this morning at a factory owned by Continental shareholder Schaeffler is said to have injured 13 people. According to a report from the Police in Lower Franconia, Germany, an explosion occurred within a production hall at Schaeffler’s roller bearing factory in the town of Eltmann. It is currently thought that the explosion and a small fire that followed are linked to a problem with a cleaning system for industrial salt.

Over 70 killed in explosion at Kunshan, China wheel plant

An explosion at Zhongrong Metal Products Co Ltd killed at least 70 people on 2 August. One source put the figure as high as 75. According to the local People’s Daily newspaper, 44 died in the initial blast with others being pronounced dead in hospital. National broadcaster CCTV reported that 187 others were injured in the blast, although other sources put this figure at 200 or more.
