In order to “protect the health and safety of all participants during the Covid-19 emergency”, this year’s Latin American & Caribbean Tyre Expo and the Latin Auto Parts Expo has been postponed for four months. The organiser of the Panama City-based show, which originally was to take place between 14-17 July 2020, has rescheduled it to 17-20 November 2020.
Representatives of Cooper Tires and Toyo Tires have respectively confirmed they’ll not exhibit at this year’s The Tire Cologne, as previously planned. Their decisions come as governments across Europe announce rigorous measures to delay the spread of coronavirus and reduce its impact wherever possible. Michelin announced its withdrawal as exhibitor last week.
Although Angela Merkel predicted this week that up to 70 per cent of all Germans could catch coronavirus, people there are responding to the risk in very different ways. This can be clearly seen in plans for two automotive shows.
No comment yet from organiser Koelnmesse, so perhaps it is too early to speculate on the fate of this year’s The Tire Cologne. Officially it is business with usual, with around 600 companies and brands expected to display their wares between 9 and 12 June. But with the show just three months’ away, Koelnmesse must decide its response to a new decree that restricts large events.
It’s official – the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) won’t take place next month. The decision to cancel GIMS follows an announcement made earlier today by the Swiss Federal Council. The Council has decided to prohibit large-scale events involving more than 1,000 people. The ban comes into immediate effect and will apply at least until 15 March 2020, the day GIMS 2020 was scheduled to conclude.
The latest Davanti Tyres project, the Protoura Sport, made its Far East debut at CITExpo in August. We caught up with Michael Eckert, sales director for mainland Europe, at the show. He told us that Davanti was currently testing the Protoura Sport prior to submitting the tyre to product certification firm IDIADA. “Volume production will probably then start before the end of this year, and the first Protoura Sport tyres should arrive in Europe in March or April 2020.”
Despite trade disputes and tariffs, China remains interesting for tyre distributors and buyers around the world. Furthermore, China’s tyre market itself stands to benefit from future growth in the country’s automotive aftermarket. Although the 28 million new cars sold in China last year represented a three per cent decrease on 2017 sales figures, the number of vehicles requiring replacement tyres will continue on an upward trajectory over the coming years. Against this backdrop, the China International Tire Expo (CITExpo) positions itself as an ideal trade fair for international and domestic visitors alike.
Tyre Boss Ltd, has confirmed it is exhibiting at the Plantworx Show for the first time and is looking forward to welcoming visitors to stand EB8. As well as supplying cushion solid tyres for waste and recycling applications, Tyre Boss has access to an extensive range of pneumatic OTR tyres for construction, earthmoving and industrial applications that don’t require a sold tyre solution. The company specialises in conversions for all types of machinery and equipment and supplies throughout the UK and Europe.
Of course, the earlier shows (including the first edition of Tire+) were held in Shanghai. This time, the 2018 event saw the Tire+ exhibition move to Guangzhou. According to the organisers the goal of the exhibition was “not only to continue the mature model of 2017, but also leverage the resources of the exhibition”. In practice this means leveraging the show’s ability to operate in both the business-to-business and business-to-consumer realms, specifically “the automobile industry chain, which is suitable for the post-automobile market consumption upgrade and individualized demand” as well as “tyres and aftermarket enterprises”.
Maxion Wheels, the world’s largest wheel producer, has announced its participation in next month’s Reifen show. The company can be found in Hall 12.1, at Stand D24 during the exhibition, which will be held alongside Automechanika Frankfurt between 11 and 15 September.
Bridgestone is limbering up to launch a new generation of Ecopia truck and bus tyres at this year’s IAA Commercial Vehicles show. The tyre maker will also share the message that its truck and bus tyres will begin to be supplied with RFID electronic tagging systems as of next year.
Trade fairs as we’ve known them belong “in the past” now. This was the comment made by Gerald Böse, who, as president and chief executive officer of Koelnmesse, is the man behind a new trade show that intends to break from the traditional format. Speaking yesterday at a press conference in the city where a new show will debut next year, Böse outlined how The Tire Cologne will be different to past tyre exhibitions, and shared the means by which it will address current needs within the industry.
The inaugural Tire+ exhibition made its debut in Shanghai today. Beginning with an opening parade of the CEOs of the top 12 Chinese tyre manufacturers, which was covered by national broadcaster CCTV, organisers CURC have taken steps to reflect the Chinese tyre industry’s increasing focus on quality. It also means large and professional stands from many of the biggest firms in the business including: ZC Rubber, Linglong, Sailun Jinyu, Doublestar, Triangle, Double Coin, Aeolus, Prinx Chengshan and Guizhou/Advance Tyre – to name just a few. This is all supplemented by an impressive number of forum discussions and four halls of tyre and rubber manufacturing stands in the RubberTech exhibition next door.
At an event which was 70 per cent bigger, hosting over 800 quality exhibitors, Automechanika Birmingham delivered a hugely successful exhibition in its second year. The UK automotive trade event welcomed over 12000 visitors including motor factors, workshops, retailers, dealerships, vehicle manufacturers, tier 1 and 2 manufacturers, who had opportunities to learn, discover and network.
