Dinex reports that it has introduced a completely new Euro III program for Mercedes-Benz Econic and also updates for the MAN M2000L Euro II and Euro III systems. The company also says it has developed new heat shield 49811 for MAN TGA made from stainless steel.
Leading exhaust and catalytic converter distributor CES (UK) Ltd kicked off 2010 with the opening of its 17th branch in Cannock, Staffordshire. According to the company, CES “raised subzero temperatures with a warming welcome to our Cannock customers” at the branch opening on 2 January 2010. The new 10,000 square foot space is said to be “packed with our renowned car parts”.
Shocking results from one of Europe’s foremost vehicle emissions testing labs have revealed shortcomings in some (legal) replacement exhaust systems. The results show 20 times the level of harmful Nitrogen Dioxide and 50 per cent higher levels of damaging Hydrocarbons being emitted by non Type-approved exhausts, leading to calls from manufacturers such as Klarius for type approval to become mandatory in the UK, as it already is in Europe.
Extensive testing by Longbridge-based Emission Test Facility UK has called the quality of construction, design and materials used in exhaust pipe make-up into question. Emission Test Facility UK’s directors and testers, Tim Colgan and Graham Downing, tested a selection of non Type-approved exhaust systems against an original manufacturers unit and a fully Type-approved replacement model.
Dinex A/S, the exhaust manufacturer, has completed implementation of the Quality Management System ISO/TS 16949 and has achieved the certification. This latest announcement, made at the end of April, follows the news in June last year that the Dinex Group’s fifth production facility, Dinex Latvia, achieved the ISO 9001:2008 certification.
BorgWarner has been selected by JCB Power Systems to supply both wastegate and variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbochargers for the new versions of its Dieselmax 4.4-Liter engines starting in 2012. Designated the JCB ‘Ecomax T4’, it is a four-cylinder inline mid-range diesel offering power ratings from 55 kW to 130 kW in numerous applications like agricultural, construction, and materials handling machinery. According to the company, BorgWarner's turbocharger technology will help this new engine meet stringent Interim Tier 4/Stage III B regulations without the need for exhaust aftertreatment or (DPF) Diesel Particulate Filters. These regulations require up to a 50 per cent reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions compared with previous standards.
Leading aftermarket parts supplier, Euro Car Parts (ECP), has reported that it stocks “the largest range of Cats and front pipes with over 500 front pipes and over 1,500 Cats from in the React Brand. According to the company, Euro Car Parts works closely with React to offer a direct technical help line and dedicated React account managers are also “on hand for assistance to both ECP branches and customers.” An additional Express Pattern service is also offered on vehicles that are registered before 1March 2001 at what are said to be extremely competitive prices.
Michelin continues to promote the weight advantages it says its Power Pure motorcycle tyre offers to sportsbike riders – the French giant says that a set of the tyres in sizes 120/70 ZR 17 and 190/50 ZR 17 saves two pounds (around 900 grams) in weight compared to tyres produced in the same category by four of Michelin’s major brand competitors. In the promotion, motorcyclists buying and fitting a pair of Michelin Power Pure tyres between 1 May and 30 June will receive a free Michelin Man digital pressure gauge, and have a chance to win one of 20 Akrapovic slip-on exhausts, making their bikes lighter still.
The emissions systems joint venture between Robert Bosch GmbH, Deutz AG and Eberspächer GmbH & Co. KG commenced operations earlier this month having received the necessary approvals from the EU Commission, according to the companies. In December 2009, the three parties announced their intention to co-operate in reducing exhaust emissions from construction machinery and agricultural vehicles, to satisfy future emission regulations.

According to the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), recent survey results indicate that more than 80 per cent of the population do not know how to tell a good vehicle technician from a bad one. To help UK motorists gain consumer confidence in the automotive repair industry, the institute has administered an Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme since June 2005. The ATA tests the current competence of individuals working in the retail motor industry, and following a pilot programme, the IMI has announced that two levels applicable to technicians working in the fast fit sector have now been added to scheme.
Dunlop has been announced as the sole tyre supplier to the new Ducati 848 race series. The leading tyre manufacturer agreed a deal with New Era Motorcycle Club and Ducati UK to ensure all bikes racing in the new championship are shod with Dunlop rubber. The Dunlop control tyre will be the Dunlop D211 GP Racer, which features NTEC and MultiTread Compounds, will harness the 134hp and 70.8lb-ft of torque generated by the Ducati 848s. As part of the deal, Dunlop is offering the winning rider from each round a pair of Dunlop tyres for their race bike. The Ducati 848 Challenge starts at Silverstone on 24 April.
Regarding braking as one part of the triumvirate of chassis safety, car parts, garage equipment and training provider, CES UK has launched a series of events at educational facilities located close to its branch network across the UK. CES has a “Safety Triangle” logo illustrating this point, with the three ‘s’-es of stopping steering and stability emblazoned on each of the shapes sides. The events, in the words of CES, “will be looking at the safety critical systems within the chassis systems and exploring the results of component failure, duty of care, changes in technology and garages profit opportunities.”
Aad L Goudriaan has been appointed the new chief executive officer of Dutch emissions control equipment supplier Bosal, effective 1 April. He joins from DAF Trucks where he had been president. He has also performed managerial roles for DAF in logistics, manufacturing and sales since 1987.
Klarius has launched a new range of Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) for the aftermarket. Marketed by Klarius through the largest of its European manufacturing plants in Stoke, the new range of DPFs is said to match OE quality and is fully recyclable part. Klarius DPFs are also Bio-Diesel compatible, providing the vehicle was originally manufactured to run on Bio-Diesel.
On the 2 February 2010, automotive aftermarket manufacturing and distribution business Klarius completed the purchase of the Quinton Hazell automotive group (QH) from US-based Affinia. Quinton Hazell is headquartered in Leicester, England, with strong manufacturing and distribution assets in France, Germany, Italy and Spain. The purchase brings a wide range of well known automotive aftermarket and OEM brands together, combining extensive manufacturing resources from both companies with global sales and distribution networks, boosting the group’s annual turnover to over £350 million. According to Klarius, further acquisitions, which should the group’s turnover pass half a billion euros, are planned.
