Pasadena “Court” to Fly on Goodyear Blimp

Pasadena Tournament of Roses Queen, Courtney Chou Lee and Royal Court, Princesses Mary Gaule, Jasmine Jenkins, Bridget McDonald, Molly Novell, Lauren Valenzuela and Quinn Young are to take to the air aboard the world famous Goodyear blimp, following in the now traditional footsteps of all Pasadena Rose Court winners before them.

For over 35 years the seven members of the Royal Court have been invited to fly in the Goodyear blimp, which is based in Carson, California. As one of the more than 150 community and media events the Royal Court will attend, the blimp ride has become one of the highlights of their year-long reign. The ambassadors of the Tournament of Roses will fly aboard Goodyear’s aerial ambassador today (3 December).

Lloyds TSB Autolease and Michelin Host Fleet Tyre Awareness Days

Lloyds TSB Autolease has been working with ATS Euromaster and Michelin to host Tyre Awareness Days for a cross section of its fleet customers. George Reid, head of technical services for Lloyds TSB Autolease, commented: “Our customers value the knowledge, experience and expertise our suppliers are able to impart and events such as the Tyre Awareness Days directly help to bring down fleet costs.”

One particular recent event was held at the MIRA proving ground, providing a mixture of theory and practice for fleet managers in attendance.

Goodyear Dunlop Employees Dig In for Community

A handful of employees from Goodyear Dunlop togged up in their warmest and braved the winter chill to help brighten their local landscape. Eight employees planted over 130 hedges and trees in partnership with British Waterways, creating a tranquil orchard in the midlands. The tyre maker reports the area in Wombourne, Staffordshire, has been transformed from muddy disused land to an oasis of calm for local residents and visitors to enjoy.

“Last year members of the HR team helped to improve the environment for wildlife at our local canal system as part of our commitment to helping our local community,” said Darren Green, Heath, Safety and Environment manager at Goodyear Dunlop. “It proved to be such a good team building exercise that we are back again, and this time planting trees. The hard work was well worth the effort when we think of all the people who will benefit from this new woodland which we are sure will be enjoyed for years to come.”

Maxxis Trucks Features in Off-Road Racing Game

The Maxxis brand features in the new Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 computer game Baja: Edge of Control, adorning the trucks of off-road racers depicted within the game. The game was developed by 2XL Games Inc. and is published by THQ.

With 1,000 miles of drive-to-horizon landscape, the game attempts to capture the intense action and atmosphere of off-road racing events such as the annual Baja 1,000 and features trucks belonging to Pete Sohren and the McMullen & Bell team. Players must build their own vehicles and attempt to conquer harsh desert terrain, including towering mountains and steep cliffs. Just like the drivers who compete in off-road sports, they vie for sponsorship based on their results and work with an advanced support system that includes helicopter and truck crews.

Conti Team Runs for Charity

On your mark! – Get set! – Go! October 11 was ContiRunning Day 2008, a day on which some 10,000 Continental employees in sixty different locations ran or walked for a good cause. Events were staged under the motto “Fit for the Future” and Conti reports the day was a huge success. Employees from twenty countries took part in the event, which started in Asia, then continued in Europe and finished off in America.

2009 ITC Summit Attracts Strong International Support.

The International Tyre Club (ITC), founded in 2001 to provide an annual business forum for industry professionals to meet together regularly and cost-effectively, says it has already received much interest in its 2009 Club Summit. According to the ITC, traders and wholesalers from a dozen countries are already lined up to attend the Club’s ITC 2009 event, one of the very first in next year’s business calendar.

Bridgestone Australia Lights up for Leukaemia

Bridgestone Australia has underlined its long-standing support for the Leukaemia Foundation with Bridgestone Australia employees and their families taking part in the inaugural ‘Light the Night’ celebrations. ‘Light the Night’ events were held in Brisbane, Cairns, Perth and Adelaide, with the colourful processions raising awareness and funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.

A 60-strong Bridgestone team joined around a crowd of more than two thousand to walk along the banks of the River Torrens in Adelaide, carrying gold balloons to remember loved ones, white balloons to celebrate surviving a blood cancer and blue balloons to give hope to patients living with leukaemia. One of those carrying a gold balloon was Bridgestone Australia’s Andrew Moffatt. “My father-in-law passed away from Leukaemia a few years ago, so my wife Norma and I can understand what the families go through under such circumstances,” said Moffatt. “We believe it’s very important for companies like ours to show support for the Leukaemia Foundation. We believe we can make a difference by giving such support, so that’s what we’re doing.”

Toyo Presenting Sponsor of Speed Races

Toyo has been named the presenting sponsor of this weekend’s SCCA Speed GT and Touring Car races at Mosport International Raceway, and presenting sponsor of the Speed Touring Car season finale at Road Atlanta.

Part of the Mobil 1 Grand Prix of Mosport weekend with the American Le Mans Series, this weekend’s Speed GT race will be referred to as the Mosport Speed GT Presented by Toyo Tires, and the touring car event will be called the Mosport Speed Touring Car Presented by Toyo Tires.

Roadrunner Tyres Get Stuck in at Garstang Show

First Stop depot, Roadrunner Tyres had a significant presence at this year’s Garstang Agricultural Show as part of a summer of events which has seen the dealership out and about across the region. Roadrunner Tyres, part of Bridgestone’s network of independent tyre retailers, hosted a large hospitality area which celebrated fifty years of the tractor tyre including showcasing a vintage tractor and giving away Bridgestone merchandise.

The vintage tractor was the star attraction at the event along with a huge Firestone tractor tyre. Staff from Roadrunner Tyres, which is based in Garstang, were also on hand offering information and advice to visitors to the stand on its products and services, which include agricultural, commercial and car tyres, servicing and repairs.

Jet Wheel Supports Ferrari Day

First Stop dealer, Jet Wheel Tyre, based in Rayleigh, Essex has been out sponsoring charity initiatives this summer. Jet Wheel Tyre lent their support to a Ferrari Day in aid of Little Havens Hospice which is established to support terminally ill children and their families. The event brought together over 40 Ferrari drivers from around the county who took members of the public for a spin in their car in return for charity donations.

Motor Show Visitor Numbers Up 14 Per Cent

The organisers of this summer’s British International Motor Show, sponsored by Zurich Connect, have announced that 472,300 people visited the ExCeL-based event – a 14 per cent increase on the 415,000 who came to the successful 2006 exhibition.

Throughout the 12-day event, car fans and motoring enthusiasts were treated to a feast of world vehicle premieres, concept cars and driving challenges, while families and children enjoyed a range of interactive events.

Federal Joins Drift Instruction

Federal Tire has partnered with JustDrift Clinic to offer a series of instructional events for budding drift drivers. JustDrift is a member of U.S. Drift Association – Formula ProAm Series, and is the West Region host for pro-am events.

According to Federal, JustDrift is committed to professional driving instruction. Training sessions are available for beginners as well as more advanced drivers, Federal said, and feature hands-on experience and classroom work. Most recently, JustDrift held sessions this past June at Willow Springs Raceway. (Tire Review/Akron)

Yokohama Sponsors New US Events

Yokohama Tire’s ADVAN tyre has been made the official tyre sponsor of Hooked on Driving, an advanced driving instructional program for drivers of high-performance cars. The tyre has also been made the event sponsor of Hooked on Driving’s two upcoming events at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Buttonwillow, California on 18 July and Spring Mountain Raceway, Nevada on 5 September.

The director of the brand, Jim Mayfield, commented that the event was the perfect platform for the brand, as the drivers and enthusiasts of high-performance vehicles would be the main target market for the ADVAN. He also stressed the brand’s “race heritage” as a key factor in determining it’s sponsorship strategy.

Gates Tyres Joins First Stop

Bridgestone’s First Stop network of tyre dealerships has signed up Gates Tyres in Cumbria, bringing the total number in the First Stop network to 155. The First Stop network has added an additional 23 dealerships since the start of the year.

Gates Tyres retails car, commercial and agricultural tyres and has more than 50 employees across its two sites in Workington and Carlisle. The dealership is celebrating joining the First Stop network by taking part in two shows this summer including hosting a F1 show, featuring Bridgestone’s F1 car and simulator, at the Cumberland Show on 19th July and a tyre safety event for local shoppers on 20 July.

Cooper Co-Sponsors 2008 Formula Drift Series

Cooper has again partnered with Formula Drift for the entire seven-event 2008 Formula Drift Pro Championship Series.

“During a drift competition, tires play a huge role in keeping drivers on track and in the race, and we’re confident that Cooper Zeon high performance tires will allow drivers to showcase their drifting expertise,” said Chris Pantani, Cooper’s director of UHP marketing and motorsports
