The IAAF is asking suppliers and motor factors to give their views and experiences on accessing vehicle assemblers’ parts data. Research group Ricardo has issued its questionnaire for parts suppliers and wholesalers, having been appointed by the European Commission to collect and assess market experience in obtaining repair & maintenance information data for repairing and servicing vehicles.
The European car industry is lobbying to delay the introduction of a tough new emissions testing regime designed to combat fears that carmakers are playing the system to boost their efficiency ratings. European cars are as much as 30 per cent less efficient than their manufacturers claim, according to the International Council on Clean Transportation, as carmakers take advantage of an archaic testing system that they want to keep in place for at least seven years.
Motor Wheel Service Distribution’s (MWSD) commercial vehicle wheel safety campaign has been successfully incorporated in the new European Union (EU) Roadworthiness Package, which will become law in May 2014. The new law, adopted by both the European Parliament and European Council, states: “compatibility between parts and components, such as between wheels and wheel hubs, should be treated as a critical safety item and should be checked during roadworthiness testing.”
On November 23 the European Parliament’s Industry Committee unanimously backed a compromise draft of the tyre labelling regulation agreed by Members of the European Parliament and Council Presidency negotiators in early October. The committee vote is the last step before the plenary vote, scheduled for November 25.
Upcoming regulations such as those foreseen in the EC Directive on motor vehicles ( 70/156/EEC ) mean changes for the approximately 120,000 employees in tuning industry businesses across Europe. While they may be of benefit to the industry, the potential for legislative hampering of the industry also exists.
After consultation with supervisory board, the Groupe Michelin managing partners will submit a resolution to appoint two new supervisory board members at the company’s annual shareholders meeting on 20 May 2005.
The European Parliament proposes to ban the use of lead weights in all member countries. The Commission directive states that all new cars coming onto the market from 1st July 2003 must have lead-free weights fitted, with a temporary exemption for certain vehicle types manufactured before this date. The exemption will also apply to the replacement market. This concession will cease from 1st July 2005.
