Falken Tyre has strengthened its European team with Thomas Fatho appointed its new marketing manager. Most recently working at Mitsubishi Deutschland, he assumes responsibility for all marketing-related areas in Europe.
Cooper Tire Europe has announced a new feature to its presence at the 2013 Rally Day event. The company’s 4×4 zone will offer visitors the chance to ride in one of DriveTech’s 4×4 machines, which swaps speed for sheer inclines and drops, mud, water and more as the Cooper rubber is put through its paces in a demanding off-road course.
British firm Trax JH Ltd, the second largest wheel balance weight manufacturer in Europe, has been selected to supply wheel weights for the new Ford Transit to be built in Kansas City, USA. Widely known in Europe, the Transit will be new to North America and is expected to be sold as the “T” series. The model will be launched in 2014.
Giti Tire has launched its new non-directional, all-position commercial vehicle tyre, the GAM831. Available in 295/80R22.5, the tyre extends the GT Radial mixed service offering, as the tyre has been developed for on and off road applications. It features a robust tread pattern and casing construction, with an extra reinforced sidewall to offer increased performance, even wear and good mileage in the most arduous terrain conditions.
Hankook has become the latest tyre manufacturer to tune a new product to the lucrative ultra-high performance sports utility vehicle segment, with a newly developed SUV version of its flagship Ventus S1 evo2. The new tyre will be brought to the European market in spring 2014, and will be available in 30 sizes between 17 and 22 inches. The Ventus S1 evo2 SUV will be manufactured mainly in the company's state-of-the-art factory in Hungary, Hankook added.
Pirelli has been nominated the world leader in the ATX Auto Components sector of the Dow Jones Sustainability World and Dow Jones Sustainability Europe indices, with a score of 85 points compared with a sector average of 51 points. It is the seventh consecutive year that Pirelli has topped the tyre sector in this respect.
Bentley could use a diesel engine for the first time in its history in the SUV which was recently confirmed for production.
Speaking at the Frankfurt Motor Show, CEO Dr Wolfgang Schreiber said: "We will investigate a diesel engine. In that platform (the Bentley will share its underpinnings with the Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7 and VW Touareg) a diesel engine will be implemented, anyway, so it could make sense. The numbers in Europe could be very high."

Uniwheels’ has been selected to provide OE wheels for the new Audi A8 Hybrid. The contract sees Uniwheels provide its “19-inch hybrid aluminium wheel”, which is said to offer an exclusive aerodynamic design.
Dunlop has developed tyres for the new Opel Monza Concept car, revealed at the 65th International Motor Show in Frankfurt this week. Dunlop says that work on the concept tyre, in size 245/35R21, began in early 2013 and underwent a number of stages in collaboration with Opel to meet the car manufacturer’s expectations. The design features the same sleek lines found on the Monza Concept, enhancing the car’s overall look through the tyres and onto the ground.
“Dunlop and Opel design teams worked on the design and development of the tyre to ensure the tread matched the sleek shape of the car perfectly”, explains Helmut Fehl from Dunlop’s advanced design and development centre in Hanau, Germany. “Every detail of the tyre was discussed, evaluated and designed to meet the highest standards and expectations of the Opel team.”
Hankook's high performance Ventus S1 evo2 tyre is being fitted as OE on BMW 520i, 528i, 530i, 535i and 520d models. The size of tyre is 225/55R 17W. This is the fourth model from the BMW group which has Hankook as original equipment; the others are: Mini, BMW 1 series and 3 series and the fact that Hankook are equipping such high-end vehicles "confirms our position as a globally-recognised manufacturer of high performance premium tyres" says Jin-Wook Choi, Hankook Tire President and COO for Europe.
Shandong Linglong manufactured Infinity Tyres offer both light and heavy radial truck tyres, with 15 dimensions available for the former, and a heavy truck radial range featuring over 20 patterns in 40 dimensions.
Infinity Tyres meet major international standards including DOT (USA), ECE (European), SASO (Middle East), and are in addition REACH compliant for Europe.
Chinese tyre manufacturer Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Company Limited (ZC Rubber) believes it is the world’s fourth largest producer of truck and bus tyres with a projected output of over 12 million radial tyres in 2013, while the company’s brand Westlake claims a “market-leading position in China”.
Michelin has launched an optimum tyre pressure calculator for tractors, harvesters, sprayers and trailers, which is available at www.michelin-agricultural-tyres.co.uk. Michelin reports that it has developed the tool to help farm machinery operators get the maximum performance out of their tyres.
