Autosport International, Europeâs largest motorsport exhibition, which also comprises The Aftermarket Show, has been shortlisted for three categories in the Association of Exhibition Organisers (AEO) Excellence Awards. The awards, which will be announced at the end of June, will see the event contest the Trade Show of the Year, Consumer Show of the Year and Most Original Stand for its F1 Feature.
Francesco Gori, General Manager Tyre Sector, Pirelli&C SpA, was nominated President of the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) following the first Board meeting today in Brussels. The new non-profit association, the formation of which was announced today in Brussels, will replace the former rubber industries trade association (Bureau de Liaison des Industries du Caoutchouc âBLICâ) founded in 1959. The new association is designed to represent the tyre and general rubber goods industry with the European Union Institutions and other international organisations.
Cooper will be unveiling its new run-flat technology at the Essen show. The Cooper Zeon 2XS run-flat tyre is designed and manufactured to handle typical air loss situations, allowing motorists to drive on safely for up to 50 miles to their destination or suitable service station. Cooper Tire will be at stand 3-322, exhibiting products including Cooper, Avon and Mickey Thompson tyres.

(Akron/Tire Review) Claiming they were lied to by Continental Tire North America (CTNA) management, the United Steelworkers (USW) blasted the tyremakerâs decision to end tyre production early at its Charlotte, North Carolina plant. âThey flat-out lied to us,â USW executive vice president Ron Hoover said. âItâs now apparent that Conti never intended to keep making tyres in Charlotte,â he continued, accusing the company of pillaging active and retired members.
Yokohama is planning to establish a passenger car tyre production plant in Europe in 2008. The news came in the context of a dealer presentation by the German distribution company Yokohama Reifen GmbH. Observers suggest that the move is likely to be a way of strengthening ongoing OE projects and relationships. Yokohama did not specify which locations are being considering, give details of which tyre lines might be produced, or suggest how much would be invested.
Pirelli and Schrader have agreed to join forces to take âintelligentâ tyre production a step further. The new system, based on a mini-sensor capable of generating its own power, can for the first time be located within the tyre itself and allows the tyre identification data and its temperature and pressure to be monitored in real time and transmitted to the car and driver.
Schrader took on 100 new staff at its Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland facility at the beginning of April. This move was supported by ÂŁ3.5 million of funding from Invest NI and brings the total number of staff at the plant to 160.
ATS Euromaster has appointed Ian Stuart as its new Group Managing Director, taking up the role with immediate effect. The news follows reports of previous MD Nick Greggâs departure a little over a month ago.
Ian Stuart started his career as a salesman with Kenning Tyre Services in the London area in 1980, followed by periods as Centre Manager and in Regional Sales. After a four-year period as Regional Sales Manager in London and the South East with National Tyres & Autocare, Ian joined ATS Euromaster as a Regional Manager in London and then became Managing Director of W.S. Tyremasters.

The Fulda Progesso performance summer tyre has won two categories in the latest summer tyre test of German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, part of Europeâs most popular network of car magazines. Ranking first, in two critical areas: âtraction and âaquaplaning,â Fulda Progresso beat off strong competition from 10 other tyre brands achieving 20 out of 20 in aquaplaning and 10 out of 10 in traction.
From February of this year, Hankook tyres are being fitted to the fifth generation Golf. The Volkswagen Golf has been the single best-selling model of car in Western Europe since the first generation debuted in 1974. Hankook will supply the high performance Ventus Prime K105 205/55R 16. Furthermore since Hankook moved into its purpose built warehouse complex, high performance stockholding has more than doubled, company representatives told Tyres & Accessories.

Bridgestone Corp. reported first quarter 2006 sales of 704.7 billion yen, up 16.7 per cent compared to the same period in 2005, resulting in a 4 per cent bump in quarterly net profits to $239 million.
The company said that strong global sales helped offset heavy increases in raw material costs. Bridgestone said its tyre sales in Japan rose 10 per cent for the quarter, while sales in the US increased 25 per cent, and sales in Europe increased 13 per cent. Sales elsewhere jumped 37 per cent, Bridgestone said.
