18 months ago one of Magna Tyres’ customers operating in a quartzite deposit in Germany started working with 26.5 R25 Magna MA08. More than a year and a half later, the tyres are still said to be “in excellent shape”, despite the tough working conditions in which they were deployed.
For the fifth consecutive year, Yokohama Tire Corporation has earned Caterpillar’s premier supplier award: the Platinum Level Recertification in its Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP). The award went to Yokohama’s factory in Onomichi, Japan, which produces OE and replacement off-the-road (OTR) tyres for a wide range of equipment.
Two new Continental tyres have made their global debut at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2017 show, which is taking place in Las Vegas, USA this week. These are the Telemaster and the EM-Master E3/L3.
Titan published third quarter 2016 financial shows sales for the third quarter of 2016 were $306.2 million, down 0.9 per cent, compared to $308.8 million in the third quarter of 2015. Gross profit for the third quarter of 2016 was $33.0 million, or 10.8 per cent of net sales, compared to $26.2 million, or 8.5 per cent of net sales, for the third quarter of 2015.
Kal Tire’s Mining Tire Group and the University of British Columbia have formed a research partnership that will allow the two organizations to collaborate in developing technology and solutions for the mining tyre industry.
In the recently-signed memorandum of understanding (MOU), both parties agree to pursue research and innovation as part of a partnership that matches expertise from UBC Okanagan’s School of Engineering with the innovation goals of Kal Tire’s Mining Tire Group.
After a decade’s absence, Continental is reintroducing its OTR and earthmover tyre ranges to the Americas. Beginning this month, the company is re-establishing its sales and product lines in all of North America as well as Brazil and the Andean markets. Continental states that the decision to return to these markets was based upon several factors, including demand from dealers for Continental products.
Magna Tyres Group reports that RengasCenter, the Finnish tyre wholesaler, has been appointed as Magna Tyres distributor in Finland. The cooperation has been set up together with Ham-Re Oy, importer for Magna Tyres in Finland.
On 18 June Magna Tyres Group announced that Cemex UK has renewed the contract for Magna to deliver OTR tyres to Cemex in the UK for the next two years. Cemex is reportedly “very satisfied” about the performance of Magna Tyres because of “the low cost price per hour, the reliability of the tyres and low amount of breakdowns”.
Effective 1 July 2016, Enno Straten has been appointed managing director of Continental’s Commercial Specialty Tires (CST) business unit. He succeeds Dr. Michael Märtens who left the company last year to concentrate on other projects outside the industry. Straten, who has worked at Continental for 17 years, will report directly to Dr. Andreas Esser, executive vice president of Continental Commercial Vehicle Tires.
Six years after it began operating in Western Australia, Kal Tire has expanded into Eastern Australia where the majority of major mines operate by buying Klinge & Co. No figure has yet been disclosed.

While low prices for the major commodities and metals have affected tyre makers on a global level and prompted production cutbacks for giant OTR mining tyres, the direction coal has taken is of greater significance here in the UK. British Geological Survey figures show output at British open cast coal mines fell almost 40 per cent between 2010 and 2014. This decline has understandably affected sales of tyres to this sector, yet the news is not all bad for OTR tyre manufacturers and suppliers – local demand for other off-road applications is in much better shape. Maxam Tire International has appointed Liverpool-based Kirkby Tyres as UK & Ireland OTR distributor with immediate effect.
According to the company, the appointment is an indirect consequence of a wide-ranging Maxam strategic review – which also resulted in the relocation of its global headquarters to Birmingham and the appointment of Martin West as managing director.
Pirelli’s Chinese owner ChemChina has officially entered into negotiations relating to the separating out the Italian firm’s truck tyre business in order to combine it with Aeolus and the three other ChemChina-owned tyre businesses.
Mitas has announced it will unveil its new 445/95R25 CR-02 mobile crane tyre in a world premiere on stand 127 of hall A6 at Bauma.
According to the company, the Mitas CR-02 is a new tread design that extends the current range of CR-01 crane tyres. Mitas CR-02 has improved operating efficiency thanks to its lighter construction. It is also possible to mount CR-02 tyres on a one-piece rim, which reduces the overall weight of the mobile crane. These improvements are said to have a positive impact on fuel consumption.
Two years ago Just Easy Tools – a Danish manufacturer and inventor of tyre manipulators and wheel service Equipment – introduced a special three-point gripping mechanism for safe and effective tyre handling during Reifen 2014.
