Goodyear Dunlop and Continental Opt for Christian Salvesen

Logistics specialist Christian Salvesen has agreed warehousing and distribution deals with two of the UK’s leading tyre companies.

Firstly, Goodyear Dunlop Tyres UK has announced that it is to extend its logistics partnership with the company. This will mean that Christian Salvesen will take over the operation of the National Distribution Centre (NDC) at TyreFort in Erdington, Birmingham, in addition to its current responsibilities for the transportation and distribution of tyres, which began in 2002.

Ecosystem Takes on Evashred UK Distributorship

Ecosystem Ltd has become the UK distributor for Evashred tyre shredders made by FV Evans & Sons NZ. These machines may be new to the UK, but they have been successfully sold into New Zealand & Australia for many years. According to the new UK distributor, the machines can be built with electric or hydraulic motors and can be supplied static, or mobile in a truck for on site shredding.

Yokohama HPT Launches Mangels Wheels

Yokohama’s UK distributor, Yokohama HPT, saw the Autosport Show as a great opportunity to launch Mangels Wheels. The addition of the Brazilian brand is designed to complement the company’s existing portfolio, which includes well-known names like TSW and MAK. The range includes designs for the growing performance road car and sport SUV segments. Yokohama HPT will exclusively distribute the new wheels in the UK.

Retiring Hercules Chief Looks Back

(Akron/Tire Review) In 1958 Craig Anderson sold his first set of Goodyear Double Eagles while working at his uncle’s tyre store in New York state. Now, after 40-plus years in the tyre and rubber industry, Craig has stepped down as president and chief executive officer of Hercules Tire & Rubber Co.

Yokohama, Wanli Suit Completed

Yokohama Tire Corp has resolved the last phase of its patent and trade dress infringement suit relating to Wanli S-1099 tyres sold in the US. It is not clear whether or not the case will have any bearing on the European tyre business and Belgian wholesaler Deldo, the exclusive European distributor of Wanli tyres, still lists the S-1099 in its catalogue. Speaking on behalf of the company, Phillip Delcroix told Tyres & Accessories he was “not aware of any problem.”

Continental AG Appoints Uniroyal Distributor in Australia

(Brisbane/Australian Tyre Dealer) Continental Corporation, one of the world’s leading automotive industry suppliers and the largest tyre manufacturer in Germany, has appointed Hamilton Tyre & Rubber Company Pty Ltd as the Uniroyal tyre distributor for Australia effective immediately.

ECSTA Dealer Council

Kumho’s ECSTA Performance Centre (EPC) network, which accounts for a significant percentage of its UK tyre sales, has recently formed a dealer council to represent all the centres involved and further the image of Kumho tyres to the consumer.

Formed with the full support of Kumho Tyre UK and Micheldever Tyre Services, the national distributor of Kumho tyres, the 11 members of the council have been voted in by the EPC retailers and include a representative of Kumho Tyre and Micheldever.

Double Michelin Award for Kerr’s Tyres, Antrim

Tyre distributor Kerr’s of Antrim has become the first dealer in the UK to be accredited under the new Michelin MAP scheme for both passenger car and truck tyre service quality.

This double award for Kerr’s Tyres in Northern Ireland reflects the commitment to customer service lead by the firm’s founder Norman Kerr and delivered by his loyal, 11 strong full time staff. Goodyear Partners with Tredit

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co has partnered with Tredit Tire & Wheel Company, Inc to provide tyre and wheel assemblies to original equipment trailer manufacturers. Tredit is a leading supplier of wheel and tyre and wheel packages for trailers used in the recreational vehicle, cargo, horse/livestock, boat and utility segments.

North West Tyres Takes on New Brand

Hanksugi Japan has a new distributor for the UK. Following Hanksugi Japan’s decision to release Stamford Tyres from any duties in Europe, North West Tyres (NWT) from Morecambe, Lancashire, has been appointed as a partner for distribution. As NWT’s managing director Andrew Wess explains, his company has just received the first 20 containers full of Hanksugi truck tyres from the company’s factory in China. These tyres, which are first to be supplied to Europe’s central warehouses, are what Mr Wess calls an “initial buffer stock” for the sales operations that are about to commence. When NWT took over the Hanksugi business in the UK itself, the company began looking “for the right people” in other European markets. North West Tyres says it can guarantee on-time supply, even at short notice for customers in the UK or Ireland and for relatively small amounts because it runs its own delivery fleet of 20 vehicles.

Tire Pros to Acquire St Louis-Based Autotire

(Akron/Tire Review) Tire Pros/Am-Pac Tire Distributors Inc has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Latham Tire Co and its Autotire Car Care Centers business for an undisclosed amount. The agreement, expected to close shortly, brings the number of Tire Pros’ national retail stores to 300.

Hofmann Granted ATL Approval

Hofmann has received full GEA Automated Test Lane approval. Richard Dixon from VOSA and Dave Garratt, chief executive of the GEA, over saw the testing which was completed at UK Equipment’s headquarters in Reading.

Trelleborg Acquires French Industrial Tyre Distributor

Trelleborg has acquired the French company Cimap Roues Industrielles SAS, which is part of the family-owned CIMAP Group, through its Trelleborg Wheel Systems business.

Cimap Roues Industrielles, which holds a leading position in industrial tyres in France, has been a distributor of Trelleborg’s industrial tyres since 1999. The company has annual sales of approximately 40 million Swedish Krone and some 10 employees at its head office in Paris and at a distribution centre in Bordeaux.

Honeywell signs UK distribution agreement for BENDIX brand

In a quest to constantly improve levels of service and as part of their overall reinforcement of the BENDIX and JURID brands in Europe for 2005, Honeywell Aftermarket UK has formed a partnership with G.P. Automotive, starting the beginning of August 2005, G.P. Automotive will become a warehouse distributor for all BENDIX products (friction materials, hydraulics, brake discs and drums, brake fluid…) with a capacity to serve all BENDIX customers on a next-day delivery basis.

Bendix products are shipped to the UK directly from the two European Honeywell platforms located in France and Germany. G.P. Automotive will carry a very wide range of stock at their Kidderminster warehouse, which will accept stock orders up until 4.00pm and emergency orders until 5.00pm. The aim is to increase the penetration of the Bendix brand in a controlled and targeted manner through G.P. Automotives vast knowledge of the U.K. aftermarket which is covered by their widely experienced sales team.
