Reifen Lindinger: A Bandag Partner for 35 Years

German tyre distributor Reifen Lindiger has been producing Bandag retreaded tyres since 1971. In May, Bandag honoured its loyal partner and celebrated the 35th anniversary of this ongoing business relationship. Christian Gross, production manager, was presented with a commemorative plaque from Ralf Schnelle, Bandag regional sales manager on the Bandag stand at Reifen Messe, the biennial tyre fair in Essen, Germany. Reifen Lindinger is located in the centre of St. Ingbert, Saarland, Germany. The company is a member of Point-S Deutschland, a cooperation of over 200 independent tyre distributors, totalling more than 350 service outlets. Founded in 1921 by Adolf Lindinger as a tyre curing, repair shop and wholesaler, the family company is currently run by Ulrich Ernst, the son-in-law of Karl-Heinz Lindinger, the founder’s sons.

NTDA Website Attacked

While the popularity of the Internet may be increasing, it is not always the successful sales and marketing opportunity that it has the potential to be. National Tyre Distributor’s Association (NTDA) employees found this out at the end of September when they discovered that a self-styled virtual anarchist calling themselves “PSYCH@” had maliciously hacked the association’s website. Instead of news from the NTDA, this professionally designed site was replaced with a few words of incoherent text including an expletive and a comment on Israel.

New TSW Alloy Wheels for the UK Market

The UK distributor of TSW wheels, Yokohama HPT, has announced the launch of five new designs which have now been introduced into the UK market. The wheels all offer TSW’s trademark quality and style and – according to the company – any car owner looking to individualise their vehicle will find something to their taste and style in the TSW range.

First up is the Holsten, an almost-full face wheel with seriously European undertones. It features a centre-cap to conceal the mounting nuts, giving uninterrupted lines. The Holsten is available in sizes from 9×18 to 10×22 and in silver or chrome finishes.

Yokohama Involved in Another World Record

Yokohama was involved in yet another world record recently, when it supplied tyres for ‘Flat Out’, the lowest car in the world. The Fiat 500 was built by custom specialist Andy Saunders over the weekend of the recent Beaulieu Autojumble, starting as a standard car and ending up with an overall height of just 213/8in (543mm) from the ground.

The Dunlop range of industrial tyres is now available directly from Goodyear Dunlop Tyres UK, rather than through a single authorised distributor as previously. This will allow for wider distribution and availability of this range of tyres for the industrial and construction markets, according to Andy Morris, UK director of OTR tyres.

Toyo Expands Middle Eastern Coverage

Toyo and its exclusive Qatar distributor, AlMuftah Trading, have plans to open two more sales outlets (at Wakrah and Al Khor, Qatar) next year. AlMuftah Trading has been Toyo’s exclusive Qatar distributor since 1968. It already has four outlets in Doha now dealing with Toyo tyres at Airport Road, Salwa and Industrial Area (two).

Another Contract for SmarTire

In the USA, SmarTire has been selected by ABC Companies to supply its SmartWave tyre pressure and temperature monitoring systems (TPMS) on the company’s Van Hool motorcoaches, for whom ABC is the exclusive US distributor. ABC is a leader in the sale and leasing of new and pre-owned highway coaches.

Toyo and its exclusive Qatar distributor, AlMuftah Trading, have revealed an ambitious expansion programme, aimed at meeting the requirements of the state’s rapidly growing automotive market. Toyo already has a “good share” of the local tyre market and AlMuftah Trading is expanding its distribution network in Qatar by opening two more sales outlets – at Wakrah and Al Khor – next year to boost business. Friend Tire, ITDG Merge Buying Groups

(Akron/Tire Review) Tire distributor Friend Tire Co. and Independent Tire Dealers Group have combined their existing marketing/buying groups for independent dealers into one programme. “The Independent Tire Dealers Group program is a perfect fit with our own Nationwide Tire Dealers Program,” said Don Isbell, president of Friend Tire. “Combined, the two offers the independent tire dealer everything they need to operate a successful business. We will begin immediately to explore the opportunities presented by this new configuration.”

Mulgrew Haulage to Start Michelin Fitment Policy

County Down-based Mulgrew Haulage Ltd has adopted a Michelin Four Lives tyre policy across its fleet of 70 tractor units, fitting a mixture of new and Remix tyres supplied by local independent tyre distributor A1 Tyres. The decision to fit Michelin ‘E’ segment regional tyres replaces an existing procurement policy with Pirelli and follows the successful performance of a number of trial tyres which demonstrated a lower cost per kilometre, according to Michelin.
