Another Small Step Against Tyre Waste

With some 40 million tyres requiring disposal each year in the UK alone there is a pressing need to find alternative uses for waste rubber from old tyres, especially since the European Landfill Directive in came into effect in 2001.

For this reason the expansion of tyre reuse infrastructure is always newsworthy, and T&A were pleased to learn of the purchase of a secondary tyre shredder by Ling Demolition Service Ltd of Kent. This new machine will operate alongside another existing unit, and is capable of processing 250 tyres per hour.

New Online Retailer Enters US Market

American tyre purchasers have just become even more spoiled for choice following the announcement that a new online retailer – Discountwheeloutlet.com – has opened its virtual doors to the public. Discountwheeloutlet.com, who claim to sell to the public at wholesale prices, stock more than 10,000 custom wheels for cars, trucks and SUV vehicles.

Due to their large stock levels, the company is able to offer their customers same day shipping, and can even offer customers wheel, tyre and accessory packages including free mounting and balancing.

According to the company, Discountwheeloutlet.com is the largest single warehouse distributor in the Pacific Northwest area of the US.

WTA Gains Steel Radial OTR Line

(Akron/Tire Review) Coral Springs, Fla.-based importer/exporter World Trade Association has become the exclusive North American distributor of Uzmai International produced Maitech steel radial OTR tires for construction, mining and fire/rescue applications.

Maitech tires are produced in Turkey and marketed by Italian exporter Uzami. WTA said it will offer Maitech radials in sizes from 15.5R25 to 445/95R25.

Alcar UK to Make Eighth Appearance at Aftermarket Show

In January 2007 Alcar UK, a respected distributor of wheels and tyres, will appear at the Aftermarket Show for the eighth year running. “The Aftermarket Show is an event that has really, over the years, become recognised as the industry event. The UK aftermarket is pretty fragmented these days but this is the event that works for us because it brings so many different people and businesses together,” said Alcar UK sales and marketing director, Kevin Greer.

Juma Al Majid Yokohama Partnership

Emirates tyre and battery distributor, Juma Al Majid Est recently celebrated its continuing partnership with Yokohama by running a test drive and launch day for the Japanese manufacturer’s Geolander range of tyres at the Expo Center, Sharjah. Present on the occasion were Mr Morita, general manager, Mr Hanatate, general manager, Mr Ghulam Nabi, department manager, Mr Longie, deputy GM, Mr Yoshimura, GM, Mr Miyamoto, GM, Mr Yagita, manager engineering and other senior officials. With the year 2006 so far having yielded strong results, Juma Al Majid Est. & Yokohama foresees a bright 2007 with the prime focus of quality service and customer satisfaction.

Sava Picks BTS as UK ATV Distributor

Bike Tyrestore has announced that Sava’s range of ATV tyres will be available in the New Year and that it is now the manufacturer’s sole UK trade distributor. Bike Tyrestore joint managing director, Peter Smith, told Tyres & Accessories the company would like to make contact with ATV tyre specialists, with a view to setting up area distributorships for this product range.

“This may be of particular interest to farm tyre specialists and anyone else for whom ATV tyres are a major part of their business,” he explained adding: “We’ll be showing this new range at Expo in January (14 to 16 January, Stoneleigh-Park Exhibition Centre).” Quad magazine is expected to publish the first UK test soon. Riverside Seals £250,000 Deal With Tyre Shredder

Riverside Waste Machinery, a leading provider of waste equipment, has just delivered its biggest ever order. North Yorkshire-based Riverside Waste Machinery is the sole distributor of UNTHA shredders in the UK and has sold a £250,000 secondary tyre shredder to Ling Demolition Service Ltd, of Canterbury, Kent.

This purpose-built Untha RS100 – 4 Shaft Secondary Tyre Shredder, was built in Austria by Untha. Riverside Waste Machinery, which is the exclusive UK distributor, says the new machine is now operating alongside a four-year-old pre-shredder that was manufactured by the same company.

Battery Distributor Warns Of Winter Shortage

LSUK is warning that there is likely to be a national shortage of stored energy products during the coming winter months, thanks largely to a sharp rise in the price of lead. The worldwide demand for lead – a vital component in batteries – has substantially exceeded the current stock levels that are available. And that has led to a shortage of batteries as manufacturers have only been able to order minimal, short-term supplies of lead.

In February this year the company moved to new premises as it had out grown its old warehouse quite considerately. Fieldens Enters the World of Rock and Roll

Specialist tyre distributor, Fieldens, based at Stowmarket, Suffolk has extended its specialist area of operation into the realm of pop concerts. Producers of the current Rolling Stones extravaganza required a method of propelling coloured tape into the air over the stage and turned to Fieldens to supply the answer. A series of large Bead Cheetah storage cylinders were mounted in a frame with the valves connected to solenoid switches. When charged the cylinders contained sufficient compressed air to launch the tapes high above the stage backdrop before they fell back in graceful arches.
