Bridgestone announces US promotions

Bridgestone Americas has announced two senior promotions within its operations, effective immediately. Jim Pridgen, previously plant manager at the Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO) factory in Wilson, North Carolina, has been named president of Firestone Fibers & Textiles Company, LLC (FSFT). In this new role Pridgen will be based at FSFT’s headquarters in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Gary Williamson, formerly operations manager at the BATO facility in Aiken County, South Carolina, has been promoted to the position of plant manager at the Wilson facility. Bridgestone Americas will announce Williamson’s successor as operations manager at a later date.

Trelleborg Americas appoints new account manager for ag and forestry tyres

Effective June 2011 Kevin Lowe was appointed as the new agricultural and forestry key account manager in the US market for Trelleborg Wheel Systems Americas. Lowe has worked in the tyre business for 23 years. Before joining Trelleborg North America, Kevin was a tyre retailer in Central Florida and worked in distribution and sales for another large tire manufacturer for the last six years in the Carolinas.

CDP Group reports 2010 sales up 39%

Less than a year after Tyres & Accessories introduced the relatively young company to the wider market, Italian tyre wholesaler CDP group has provided more evidence that it is achieving its high hopes. As promised months ago, CDP Group sent our Italian sister publication (PneusNews.it) the company’s 2010 full balance sheet – far from common practice in some quarters – in a move that signals company CEO Andrea Reggi’s commitment to work with the maximum transparency.

New premises offer Manbat room for growth

After 13 years at its current headquarters in Shrewsbury, Manbat has moved to a substantially larger site. The shift to a new headquarters has seen the UK’s largest battery distributor move a full 500 yards along Lancaster Road; Manbat says the new side provides sufficient room for its ongoing expansion plans.

Bosal appoints new commercial team in UK

Bosal has created a UK commercial team, to be led by new sales and marketing director, Robin Evans. Evans, 42, officially joins Bosal UK on 1 August after a successful four years with K & N Filters as their UK sales and marketing manager. He has considerable experience of the aftermarket and distribution sectors, starting his career in 1993 with Valvoline and rising to become their EMEA business manager.

Conti appoints Ireland logistics partner

Continental Tyre Group has appointed Irish Global Logistics (IGL) as its distribution partner for the Republic of Ireland on a 32 county basis. Under the terms of the agreement, IGL will be responsible for transporting the various Continental Tyre Group tyre brands, including Continental, Semperit, Uniroyal and Barum, from Continental’s UK distribution centre to customers in Ireland. The agreement brings dealers in Ireland a number of benefits, including enhanced 24 hour deliveries and improved ‘track and trace’ on all deliveries. Continental Tyre Group will have the use of dedicated office space at the IGL headquarters in Swords, County Dublin.

NDI prepares for OTR sector debut

Earlier this year, NDI Tyre & Tube Supplies Ltd. announced plans to outsource the distribution of its passenger car private brand and alter operations to shift the company’s focus onto the supply of specialised and niche market products. Since this time the local subsidiary of Denmark’s Nordisk Daek Import A.S. has been busy implementing these plans, and the result of this is that NDI is now ready to participate in the OTR sector to a far, far greater extent.

Mixer manufacturer Carter International discusses expansion plans

Since being relaunched in its present trading format eight years ago, Rochdale-based Carter international says it has evolved into a “leading manufacturers of mixing room machinery” and other tyre manufacturing products; the upwards curve in the company’s development has led to the organisation’s current plan to relocate to a greenfield site. Carter says its “ongoing success in a highly competitive market” has encouraged the company to improve its manufacturing and operational facilities for greater “professionalism and efficiency”.

Grouptyre membership “key” in B.A.B. Distribution expansion

Grouptyre member and wholesale operation of BA Bush & Son, B.A.B. Distribution has announced an expansion of its operation along the east coast of England. The company currently operates 17 centres across Lincolnshire, East Yorkshire, Humberside and Cambridgeshire, having opened four new facilities over the past two years, and it now aims to have 20 outlets by the end of the year on the back of continued growth. The wholesale group says the expansion shows that it is committed to growing its market share by investing to improve the supply chain.

NETE under ‘organisation and structural review’

Middlesbrough-based North Eastern Tyre and Exhausts (NETE) is conducting an “organisational and structural review” just a couple of months after being bought by Stapleton’s Tyre Services. While local newspapers dramatically reported that “the fate of 360 staff hangs in the balance” and the firm refused to rule out redundancies, one spokesperson told Tyres & Accessories that no decisions have yet been made and the review is focusing on the efficiency of support roles within the newly-acquired company. T&A understands that sales and logistics positions are not currently being looked at.

Treadsetters mentioned in HSBC annual report

Remember how Telford-based tyre wholesale operation Treadsetters beat over 1600 other businesses to the finals of HSBC’s business thinking awards at the end of last year? The firm were regional winners securing a prize of £115,000 reaching the last 18 in the finals in Hong Kong. They may not have won the final overall, but making it to the short list of just 17 companies for the bank’s “International Insights” event in Hong Kong on 5 December is said to have opened up a number of other opportunities. Getting more than a page of coverage in the once of the world’s best-known banks’ annual report isn’t a bad thing either.

Treadsetters features in a full-page photo collage on page 14 of HSBC’s annual report with a short text describing the firm as an example of “creating export opportunities” on the following page. “The journey that [Treadsetters’] tyres make exemplifies the connections that criss-cross the global economy.”

Conti's “right answer” – the LSR1+ and LDR1+

According to Continental, two new tyres it has launched “provide exactly the right answer to the diverse challenges of regional and cross-regional transport.” This assertion refers to the German manufacturer’s LSR1+ steer axle tyre and LDR1+ drive axle tyre; 17.5-inch fitments that Conti says prove their qualities in both urban and long-distance use.

Goodyear Dunlop orders Transense equipment for FOS

Transense has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Translogik Limited recently took a further order for “a number” of Truck Tyre Inspection Kits from Goodyear Dunlop for its FOS (Fleet Online Solution) Mobile programme. This relationship began 18 months ago when Goodyear Dunlop began integrating the Translogik tyre inspection probe to work with its FOS system.

Kuehne + Nagel takes over Conti South Africa plant logistics

Logistics firm Kuehne + Nagel has assumed management of warehouse operations at Continental’s Port Elizabeth tyre making facility in South Africa. Within the scope of the new contract, Kuehne + Nagel will support Continental Tyre S.A. (Pty) Ltd’s original equipment and aftermarket dealer business in the South African market through receiving tyres from production, carrying out quality control checks, storage, inbound and outbound handling, picking and packing, inventory management as well as management of empty containers. In addition, Kuehne + Nagel will provide an external warehousing solution for overflow volumes in Port Elizabeth.
