Tech Europe, the European arm of Tech International, a producer of tyre repair materials and wheel service solutions, headquartered in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, has launched a new website at www.techeurope.co.uk. The site offers an overview of Tech Europe’s product offering, as well as providing detailed information on the company, its current distribution network, and on-going activities.
Heuver Tyrewholesale has announced plans to open a distribution centre in southern Germany. The new warehouse in Bayreuth was scheduled to become operational in April. Currently Heuver is coordinating the flow of incoming goods, in order to ensure sufficient start-up stocks. According to the company, Bayreuth will become an important European point of support for the Aeolus brand. The first containers of Aeolus tyres have reportedly already been unloaded.
Continental has expanded its range of second generation long haul truck tyres first introduced in 2010 with the launch of two new products, the HDL2+ and HSL2+. In releasing the new drive and steer tyres, the manufacture shares that they offer greater overall mileage than the previous generation tyres and offer optimised driving properties and handling thanks to new micro-sipes in the longitudinal grooves.
Apollo Vredestein is in Budapest this week, as it launches two new UHP tyres under the Vredestein brand. The Sportrac 5 is the successor to the successful Sportrac 3, which won the ADAC 2011 summer tyre test. The Sportrac 5 is marketed on its quietness, stability and sportiness, offering excellent handling on both wet and dry surfaces. Its size range is designed to provide fitments on upper medium cars. The company notes that the name Sportrac 4 has not been used in order to prevent confusion with Vredestein’s all-season tyres.
Online tyre retailer Delticom has secured exclusive distribution rights in a number of European markets, including the UK, for the Anlas range of two-wheeler tyres. The Turkish tyre maker produces tyres for bicycles, mopeds, scooters, motorcycles, golf carts, ATV and agricultural vehicles; the initial range distributed by Delticom includes three products for scooters and mopeds, the M+S marked MB-458 Wintergrip scooter tyre, the Trials scooter cross tyre and the NR-SP WW whitewall tyre for urban retro scooters.
UK tanker drivers have voted for strike action in a dispute over “safety and growing instability in the fuel industry.” Members of the Unite trade union working for five major fuel distribution firms delivering to stations run by Tesco, Sainsbury’s, BP, Shell and Esso backed the call for strike action. The motion was reportedly passed by an average of 69 per cent. Over 61.1 per cent of those voting across the seven companies voted for strike action. Turnouts across the five companies averaged 77.7 per cent.
US-based industrial gases company Praxair, Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire Sibur-Russian Tyres’ industrial and packaged gases business in the Volgograd Region of the Russian Federation. The business operates under the name Volzhsky Azot and includes two air separation units and a bulk and packaged gas business. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Hankook Tire’s light commercial vehicle line-up has been expanded with the introduction of a new all-season light truck tyre, the Vantra LT. The company says it developed the range to deal with the high demands placed on passenger and goods transport vehicles in regional traffic; it adds that durability, fuel efficiency and mileage played a key role during development, as did safety-related driving characteristics such as short breaking distances and superior wet performance. The new Vantra LT is available in 34 dimensions, covering 14 to 16-inch rim diameters in series 82 to 60 and tread width from 165 to 235. All tyres in the Vantra range bear the M+S marking.
Avonmouth-based haulier Wrings Transport has fitted Continental tyres to its latest fleet additions three years after choosing the tyre manufacturer as it's supplier of choice. The operator recently introduced three new Scania trucks and a further seven tractor units are already on order; all 10 of the new trucks have been specified with Continental HSR2 steers, as well as ContiRe tyres on the drive axles.
Following news that Midas will be acquired for an estimated US$310 million, company CEO Alan Feldman described the deal with TBC Corporation as being “the best opportunity for Midas to go forward.” Speaking to the Chicago Tribune newspaper, Feldman described the acquisition as a “strategic, compelling marriage of two leading brands in the automotive repair aftermarket.
American Tire Distributors is building a new $6 million distribution centre in Illinois, reports Tire Review. Earlier this week, the Morton (Illinois) Economic Development Council voted unanimously to give ATD a two-year, 60 per cent property tax abatement in 2013 and 2014 to help it deal with soil problems on the 11-acre site selected for the new warehouse. Four other Morton taxing bodies must still approve the tax abatement, but it is expected to pass easily, according to local reports.
Birmingham-based Dunlop Aircraft Tyres has reported that it is building on its success in the Americas by offering its entire range of narrow and wide bodied aircraft tyres to operators throughout the region.
Hankook Tyre Australia says the relocation of its New South Wales warehouse will improve distribution to dealers in that state. YCH Logistics, located at Sydney's Eastern Creek, will be the new central depot for Hankook tyres in the state; the facility replaces the warehouse currently located at TOLL Logistics in Yennora. The Yennora warehouse will continue to operate until the end of March.
Off-road tyre specialist BKT has reported two important new developments in its European operation since the start of this year. The first of these is the appointment of Lucia Salmaso, who as marketing director has directed strategic marketing and communication activities at BKT Europe srl since the start of 2009 and helped to establish the European subsidiary’s headquarters in Seregno, near Milan, Italy, as managing director of BKT Europe.
