Lamborghini Selects Beru for TPMS

Automotive engineering specialists Beru F1 Systems has announced that it is supplying its award-winning digital tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) DigiTyre to Lamborghini for the Gallardo and Murciélago platforms. The safety feature, developed using Beru F1 Systems’ extensive motorsport experience, is standard fit on US Gallardo and Murciélago models to comply with the TREAD act. (The TREAD act makes it mandatory for passenger vehicles and light trucks sold in the USA to be fitted with a pressure monitoring system).

Specialist and niche vehicle manufacturers rightly demand robust and integrated solutions,” says BERU F1 Systems’ managing director John Bailey. “The higher speeds, higher cornering forces and demands experienced by performance cars rule out many solutions currently available. New Omitec Software

Omitec, the diagnostics equipment manufacturer, has released Version 13 Software of its OmiScan (handset based) and OmiPro (PC Based) scan tools. Version 13 features software application updates to: Alfa Romeo, Citroën, Fiat, Ford, MG Rover, Peugeot, Renault, Vauxhall as well as intensive application additions to BMW.

Bosch to Acquire Beissbarth and Sicam

The Bosch Group has unveiled plans to further consolidate its foothold in the workshop equipment market through the acquisition of Munich-based Beissbarth GmbH, and Italy’s Sicam s.r.l., companies that both belong to parent company Beissbarth Automotive Group GmbH. An agreement between Bosch and Beissbarth Automotive was signed on February 14.

Replacement Demand Driving UK Garage Equipment Sales

Replacement demand is currently the most important driver in the European mechanical testing and material handling equipment market. Products from established manufacturers are increasingly being replaced by novel offerings from new participants, driving competition and volume sales, according to Frost & Sullivan.

The research firm said the European mechanical testing and material handling equipment market earned revenues of 566.8 million euros in 2005 and estimates this will reach 725.73 million in 2012. “As customers attempt to constantly update and equip themselves with the latest technologies, they are no longer willing to limit themselves to traditional manufacturers,” said F&S senior research analyst Benny Daniel. “End consumers are signing contracts with manufacturers with these competencies, generating fresh demand for garage equipment as a result.”

Autodiagnos Limited, manufacturers of one of the leading automotive diagnostic tools has announced a major re-organisation programme designed, which the company says is designed to enhance customer focus and synergy in domestic and global markets. Dave Rushton, a Chartered Engineer, has been appointed director and general manager of the company. Rushton brings over 15 years experience in the Automotive Diagnostics business, previously working with other leading diagnostics companies and recently as Operations Director at Autodiagnos.

Mark Wright has joined the company to head up UK Sales and Marketing. Wright has 10 years of experience in sales and distribution of automotive tools and equipment and will focus on the development and support of customers in the home markets.

SmarTire Full-Year Revenue up 136 per cent

SmarTire reported record revenue in 2006 of $3.5 million, compared to $1.46 million in 2005. Net loss for the year totalled $29.4 million, compared with $16.1 million a year ago. Losses for the year increased significantly primarily due to non-cash interest charges of $23.2 million in 2006, compared to $3.6 million in 2005.

Sun Automatic Test Lane Gets VOSA Approval

The Sun VIC 3000 ATL Automatic Test Lane, from Snap-on Diagnostics, has been approved by VOSA for MoT testing.
Terry Smith, European Marketing Manager of Snap-on Diagnostics, said that the VIC 3000 ATL is available in Class IV and Class VII configurations and is one-man operated. He went on: “It is very easy to operate and uses a Windows-based software package that guides the operator through the testing procedure using icon driven command sequences for testing brakes, suspension and side slip. It offers rapid vehicle inspection diagnosis, is fast and accurate and also offers the possibility to integrate other Snap-on Diagnostic products into the Test Lane.”

Bluetooth Diagnostics

TCD will be unveiling its new Bluetooth diagnostic kit at January’s Aftermarket Show.

The device links a Panasonic Tough-Book laptop via Bluetooth connection to Bosch’s KTS 520 diagnostic kit. Coding ensures that no other Bluetooth devices can interfere despite the 100 metre wireless operating range.
