Nokian Tyres has begun construction work on a finished goods warehouse at the Dayton, Tennessee production site where it is currently doubling production capacity for all-season and all-weather tyres and adding light truck tyres to the product mix. The warehouse will hold as many as 600,000 tyres and should be ready for use by mid-2024.
Nokian Tyres is investing approximately US$174 million to double tyre capacity at its factory in the USA and to expand warehousing capabilities at the Dayton, Tennessee site. This project will lead to the creation of 75 new jobs at the Dayton facility this year, and the expansion will also enable Nokian to add light truck tyres to the plant’s product mix in 2023.
Nokian Tyres’ new Dayton, USA manufacturing plant has been awarded ISO 9001 certification. The certification requires companies to meet specific quality management system requirements and thus affirms the company’s commitment to premium quality.
After several months of test production, Nokian Tyres’ new factory in the USA has begun making tyres destined for retail sale. Now that the tyre maker has reached this milestone on schedule, it will steadily increase volume throughout the year and will continue growing it until reaching an annual capacity of four million tyres by 2023.
The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) shares that Nokian Tyres has signed up as its 13th member. The company, which opened its factory in Dayton, Tennessee in October 2019 and is currently preparing to start commercial production, joins an association that represents more than four-fifths of the national tyre manufacturing industry.
A further two products are joining the range of Dayton truck tyres available in European markets. Manufactured in Europe by Bridgestone, the first sizes in the D550S steer tyre and D650D drive tyre lines come to market this month.
Dayton is expanding its range of truck tyres with the launch of on/off-road tyres: Dayton D800M steer and D800D drive for mixed on- and off-road service. Made in Europe and subjected to Bridgestone quality controls, Dayton on/off-road tyres are designed to give truck operators the same “essential performance at the best price” as the Dayton on-road truck tyre line-up introduced in 2015.
Bridgestone reports over 300 potential business opportunities were recorded over the recent CV Show in Birmingham. In doing so the company claimed that Bridgestone had “the most impressive stand by a tyre manufacturer at the NEC, with its comprehensive packages of fleet support playing as prominent a role as its ranges of tyres”.
Bridgestone Europe has provided further details of its new Dayton brand truck tyre range. The initial launch of this third tyre brand in the European commercial vehicle segment includes products for all axle fitments – the D500S Steer, D600D Drive and D400T Trailer.
Bridgestone has doubled the coverage offered by its Dayton truck tyre range, which it offers in the US and Canadian markets. Eight new Dayton patterns have joined the line-up and, says Bridgestone Commercial, meet the diverse needs of small fleets and owner operators in a multitude of trucking segments. The product launch coincides with the launch of a new daytontrucktires.com website and tagline, ‘Tires for Truckers’.
