CV Show records ‘one of busiest’ years since UK recession

The organiser of the 2015 Commercial Vehicle Show has predicted that official, independently audited figures will prove it was “one of the busiest” editions of the annual event since the UK came out of recession. Stating that the second day in particular (15 April) saw packed halls and long registration queues, Rob Skelton, CV Show Director, said: “There was a buzz about the CV Show this year right from the very start and attendance levels were high.

Pirelli returns alongside all major UK players at CV Show 2015

The strong representation of the tyre and wheel business at April’s Commercial Vehicle Show 2015 proved that the show is considered an increasingly important platform for those within the business. Indeed, Giti Tire’s notably larger stand, effectively re-launching its corporate identity, and the presence of Pirelli after a decade of non-attendance – alongside strong commitments from all the leading UK CV brands; major CV tyre wholesalers, Kirkby Tyres, RH Claydon and Kings Road Tyres; fleet servicing companies; and garage machinery providers.

Bridgestone excited by CV Show possibilities

Bridgestone exhibited from a large stand at this year’s CV Show, saying that the annual event reaped “a number of quantifiable rewards with many new relationships forged”. A contract extension with Axis Fleet Management. Bridgestone also commented that visitor numbers had risen on 2014 figures, suggesting that its Bridgestone Partner network, which promises greater support to dealers and increased reductions in fleet operating costs, was an attractive proposition. The show represented the European launch of Bridgestone Partner, which will consist of over 350 truck tyre specialists across the UK and Ireland implementing Bridgestone’s ‘Total Tyre Care’ approach.

Hankook exhibits increased load index SmartFlex, TL02 trailer tyre at CV Show

Hankook’s Commercial Vehicle Show stand contained its CV tyre portfolio, with the recent adapted products for Euro V and VI vehicles taking centre stage. The SmartFlex AH31 and the TL02 trailer tyre were the key products in this respect, while the manufacturer also emphasised its Alphatread, retread range, which was extended with the addition of the popular 315/70R22.5 size, made available in January 2015. Hankook also hosted a football competition on its large Hall 5 stand, run in conjunction with its sponsorship of the UEFA Europa League.

How Goodyear’s tyre products and technologies support ongoing growth

Looking around the 2015 CV Show, it’s easy to see that there is a significant amount of Goodyear-shod vehicles being exhibited. One particular example that Goodyear representatives pointed Tyres & Accessories to is the well-known truck manufacturer DAF, which brought a particularly high number of Goodyear-equipped trucks to the show. So, with this in mind, can such a strong showing in the exhibition fitment stakes be seen as a metaphor for the company’s ongoing growth? T&A met with Marc Preedy, Goodyear commercial director UK & Ireland, to find out.

Pirelli stand marks CV Show return after a decade

Pirelli’s appearance at the recent CV Show in Birmingham is the first time in more than a decade that the well-known tyre maker has invested in a stand at the long-established exhibition. Pirelli’s flagship truck tyre range was at the forefront of the stand.

Large stand drives ‘record visitors’ to Giti at CV Show

Following its week at the Birmingham NEC for this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, Giti Tire said that it “registered record visitor numbers” to its new look stand. The manufacturer was displaying its new GT Radial GDR638 drive axle tyre, among others, from a large stand incorporating its corporate colours alongside its flagship GT Radial branding for the first time. The manufacturer said the use of its Giti branding was part of a plan to raise its profile worldwide in support of global infrastructure projects, such as the new $560m manufacturing and distribution plant in Chester County, South Carolina.

Michelin solutions launches ‘Effitires with fuel commitment’

Michelin solutions used the Commercial Vehicle Show 2015 to launch what it calls “a new pan-European value-creation offer for road transport fleets”. In other words, this means the firm is offering price per kilometre (PPK) tyre management contracts with a contractual fuel saving commitment, for the first time.

Michelin solutions calls this – ‘Effitires with fuel commitment’ and it is designed to make both hauliers’ and own-account operators’ fleets more efficient by combining outsourced tyre procurement and expert tyre management with a commitment to saving fuel.

ATS Euromaster piloting new van and truck maintenance services

Yesterday ATS Euromaster announced that it is offering a range of service, maintenance and repair (SMR) facilities for trucks and trailers, designed to make it easy for fleets to get rapid access to expert care for larger commercial vehicles. Six ATS Euromaster centres have been selected to take part in the pilot scheme, in Birmingham, Avonmouth, Liverpool, Rugby, Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester.

In addition to offering tyres for trucks and trailers, these centres are now fit replacement air cables, electrical coils and suzie lines – with work carried out either in centre, on-site or at the roadside. They are also offering replacement batteries with two year unlimited mileage guarantees, plus a rapid response service for jumpstarting trucks in need of urgent assistance.

UK commercial vehicle registrations reach a new high

Protagonists at this week’s Commercial Vehicle Show have cause to celebrate, as new figures from the SMMT show van and truck registrations have reached a record high. A total of 108,456 vans and trucks were registered in the UK between the start of January and end of March 2015, making it the best quarter on record. This result is particularly remarkable when bearing in mind that only 221,132 commercial vehicles were registered in the whole of 2009. Registrations reached 384,120 units last year – just below the 388,488 registrations recorded in pre-recession 2007 – and demand is expected to remain strong in the months ahead.

Kwik Fit partners Central Tyre in van-orientated CV Show stand

Kwik Fit reports that it is seeking to win new light commercial vehicle fleet business opportunities at the 2015 Commercial Vehicle Show. The UK’s largest automotive repair company will be sharing its show stand with sister company Central Tyre, which is also owned by the Itochu Corporation-owned and has been supplying the commercial and agriculture industries for more than 50 years. Indeed, Central Tyre says it is the UK’s “number one independent commercial service provider”.

Hunter CV aligner offers ‘rapid fuel saving opportunity’ – Pro-Align

Hunter’s new wheel alignment system for commercial vehicles is now available in the UK, and its distributor believes the innovative product is set to help fleets reduce their running and maintenance costs significantly. The Hunter system, available exclusively through Pro-Align, is the first and only CV alignment system on the market today capable of providing live alignment readings on three axles simultaneously, according to the distributor.

Kirkby Tyres to support Double Coin, Sailun from separate CV Show stands

Kirkby Tyres has revealed its plans to support its Double Coin and Sailun product ranges from two different stands at this year’s CV Show. Both brands will be exhibited on dedicated, neighbouring 84m2 stands separated by a walkway in Hall 3, with Kirkby staff participating on both stand 3D79 (Double Coin) and 3C70 (Sailun Tyres). The CV Show is held annually at the NEC, Birmingham, and takes place on 14-16 April.

Giti Tire reveals CV Show 2015 stand design

Giti Tire has unveiled its stand design for The CV Show 2015. The stand, situated at 4G40, will provide a platform for the launch of the new GT Radial GDR638 next generation drive axle tyre. An interesting feature of the stand (pictured) will be the presence of the manufacturer’s logo and corporate colours. In previous years Giti has made its flagship GT Radial brand the focus of its CV Show exhibit. Now the manufacturer plans to raise its corporate profile worldwide in support of global infrastructure projects, such as the new $560m manufacturing and distribution plant in Chester County, South Carolina.

RH Claydon to increase presence, display key truck brands at CV Show

In its 62nd year of trading, the wholesaler states that it has witnessed an expansion of its commercial vehicle tyre business in recent years. RHC holds an extensive range of brands, specialising in the commercial, agricultural and specialist segments. It says its portfolio is designed to meet the requirements of the light and heavy truck tyre distributor, service provider and end user.
