Wheely-Safe will be showcasing its award-winning wheel security and tyre pressure monitoring system at the Commercial Vehicle Show (28 April – 30 April 2020), on the back of winning four major industry titles in 2019, including the Transport Technology of the Year at the National Technology Awards.
Truck tyres are joining the ranks of Hankook Tire’s second brand, Laufenn. Hankook Tyre UK will preside over the global launch of these products at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, presenting the Laufenn tyres alongside its expanding Hankook commercial vehicle line-up.
With the UK commercial vehicle and fleet business congregating in Birmingham for the Commercial Vehicle Show at the start of May, Vaculug took the opportunity to demonstrate the latest addition to its bespoke fleet tyre management system called VMS – VMS Mobile. For the company, which is now the only non-new-tyre manufacture-owned retreader in the UK, fleet growth and retreading business growth go hand in hand. Giti Tire has launched Giti Fleet SMART, its first ever tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) at CV Show 2019. The acronym SMART stands for Smart, Monitoring, Air pressure, Real time, Technology. The system, created in partnership with TyreWatch.com, delivers continuous monitoring and analysis of a fleets’ tyres. Fully connected to the web and Giti’s own GitiAssist network, it is designed to inform workshop technicians and fleet managers of maintenance requirements, while predicting and preventing potential tyre failures.
Giti’s GTR955 Combi Road trailer tyre and Team Oliver Racing’s bonneted Volvo VNL race-prepared truck will be the highlights of the tyre manufacturer’s stand at The CV Show 2019 (Stand 4F55, 30 April – 2 May, NEC Birmingham).
Michelin will exhibit its latest generation connected tyre technologies in a dedicated zone on the Road Haulage Association’s (RHA) stand at the Commercial Vehicle Show for the second successive year. The company will showcase two new wheel and tyre safety systems, designed and manufactured by Wheely-Safe, an official Michelin licensee, for fitment to vehicles regardless of tyre brand policy.
Yokohama has announced that it will to exhibit at the Commercial Vehicle Show for the first time in 2019 (30 April – 2 May, NEC Birmingham). The tyre manufacturer will use the event to showcase its range of van, 4×4 and high performance tyres suited to a wide range of fleet and vehicle applications. Its decision to exhibit reinforces Yokohama’s growing interest in the van tyre market. Its latest fleet fitments include specialist aviation logistics company, Comet Car Hire (CCH) and leading European logistics business, X One Wholesale.
The growing Hankook commercial vehicle tyre portfolio will be on display at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, which takes place from 30 April to 2 May at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC). Hankook Tyre UK can be found in Hall 5, stand 5B50, where a wide range of tyres will be presented, including the SmartWork for on and off road and the SmartFlex range for regional haul.
Considering the evolution of the retreading market in the UK to fewer and larger players, the Retread Manufacturers’ Association (RMA) has been faced with somewhat dwindling numbers of members. Consolidation has meant fewer distinct companies, which has in turn made for a reduced membership base. However, this does not necessarily equate to the reduced vitality of retreading in the UK – while certainly facing many challenges from the availability of lower-cost new tyres imported from the Far East, retreading has continued to prove relevant to a greater or lesser degree depending on prevailing macroeconomic winds.

South Korea-based tyre manufacturer Hankook, which is a leading player in the UK truck tyre market in terms of unit volumes, has stated that it is not affected by the recently introduced European anti-Chinese truck tyre import tariffs.
