Commercial vehicle registrations rose 17.4 per cent in May to 31,922 units, according to the SMMT. This was the fifth consecutive monthly uplift for truck market, while vans hit a 150,000 registrations record.
Commercial vehicle registrations rose 17.4 per cent in May to 31,922 units, according to the SMMT. This was the fifth consecutive monthly uplift for truck market, while vans hit a 150,000 registrations record.
UK commercial vehicle registrations rose 23.5 per cent in April, with similar growth of 23.9 per cent for the year to-date. The strong demand for trucks continued, up 43.5 per cent to 3,900 units. Van registrations increase for the 12th consecutive month to 24,927; a rise of 20.9 per cent. These figures were released by the SMMT.
When we consider the truck and bus market it can be easy to downgrade the importance of the latter half of the equation. According to the latest Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) Factbook, there were 89,374 buses (including coaches) on the UK’s roads last year, equating to 13.6 per cent of the UK heavy commercial vehicle parc (i.e. not including van-sized vehicles) and 0.2 per cent of the total vehicle parc. Compared with 568,993 trucks (86.4 per cent of the CV parc), the people transportation segment of the CV market is clearly the junior partner. New bus registrations have made a strong start to 2015 (see textbox), but are still relatively small beer.

“It is encouraging to see that the commercial vehicle market continued to grow in February with registrations up 19.5 per cent”, said Sue Robinson, director of the National Franchised Dealers Association. February marked the tenth consecutive month of growth in the CV market – up to 40,491 units. Van demand sustained its upward trend and grew 17.9 per cent, and for the second month running, truck registrations increased 31.7 per cent to 2,518 units.
SMMT figures show that commercial vehicle registrations grew 19.5 per cent in February, with 40,491 vehicles registered so far this year. Both the truck and van sectors performed well; truck registrations continue to increase as demand sees steady return to form, up 31.7 per cent in February, while there was a sustained strong performance from the van market, which rose by 19.5 per cent in the month.
The commercial vehicle market continues growth for the ninth consecutive month, up 23.2 per cent to 24,567 units, according to the latest figures from the SMMT.
Registrations of commercial vehicles grew 4.2 per cent in November, with a year-to-date increase of 13.1 per cent, says the SMMT. Growth was again fuelled by the van market, which rose 17.1 per cent to 26,516 units in the month. Meanwhile, truck registrations declined 49.6 per cent to 2,729 units in the aftermath of new Type Approval legislation.
SMMT figures show that commercial vehicle demand grew 27.0 per cent in October to 35,027 units, driving the market up 14.1 per cent to surpass 300,000 units. Truck registrations saw a sharp upturn of 65.7 per cent to 8,457 units, marking the first month of growth for the market in 2014. Year-to-date levels remain down […]
UK commercial vehicle production fell by 1,642 units in August as the 2014 calendar saw some plants take additional shutdown, compared to last year, for retooling according to SMMT figures.
Leading vehicle remarketing company, British Car Auctions (BCA), is reporting record average values for commercial vehicles in August 2014. Following news from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) that new car sales continue to rise, this new data illustrates that confidence is equally strong in the commercial sector as Duncan Ward BCA’s General Manager – Commercial Vehicles explained:
Figures from European motoring organisation ACEA reveal that, in June, the EU market of new commercial vehicles expanded for the tenth consecutive month. Demand increased by 10.3 per cent, totalling 166,107 units. Growth prevailed in the van segment, as well as that of buses and coaches, while the truck segment declined. All major markets expanded, from 3.8 per cent in France to 6.5 per cent in Germany, 8.6 per cent in Italy, 18.9 per cent in Spain and 25.5 per cent in the UK.
Demand for the new 14 registration plate fuelled commercial vehicle growth in March. Total commercial vehicle registrations grew 11.4 per cent in March to 54,232 with the rolling year figure up 15.6 per cent to 335,840.
The combined March and September plate-changes typically account for around a third of the annual van market. The strong 14.6 per cent rise to 50,064 van registrations is in line with expectations
In terms of the sheer number of vehicles on UK roads, the coach and bus segment accounts for just 0.3 per cent (90,355) of the total number of vehicles on UK roads. But there are good reasons to be interested in the coach and bus tyre market, especially as premium brand players like Continental, Goodyear and Bridgestone launch ever more specialised products, moving away from fitting the same 22.5” or 17.5” products as those found on trucks.
Figures from the SMMT show that the UK bus and coach market fell 12.1 per cent in February to 356 units. The purpose-built sector dropped 44.4per cent in the month, down 18.6 per cent for the year-to-date. However, the converted bus market picked up, rising 31.2 per cent in February.
The SMMT has revealed that total UK commercial vehicle registrations grew by17.5 per cent in February to 13,320 with the rolling year figure up 15.1 per cent to 330,283. Van sales drove the CV growth with a strong February performance. A 28.2 per cent rise in the month to 11,731 registrations boosted the rolling 12 months by 13.8 per cent.
