Infinity Tyres has launched its new foundation, which comprises the Infinity Aspire and Infinity OutReach programmes designed respectively to help “talented young people and give them a fair chance”, and “to identify and support local causes in the communities where Infinity operates”. The company says it is “proud to introduce the Infinity Tyres Foundation,” which “believes in giving back to the community locally, regionally and throughout the world”.
UAE-based tyre, battery and lubricant distributor Zafco has announced the launch of its corporate and social responsibility division. To mark the launch, the company is sponsoring mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu in his latest attempt to scale 13 peaks in South America. Babu hopes to raise environmental awareness with the expedition, the costs of which Zafco will cover. Zafco will also donate funds to plant one tree for every 100 metres Malli climbs, along with employees’ contributions. Zafco has a history of charitable involvement having taken part in blood donation drives and fundraising activities for local none governmental organisations. The launch of the CSR division will streamline these activities and future initiatives and will encompass all community, environment or safety awareness campaigns undertaken by the company.
Since Andrew Gordon was told that cancer had returned to his liver and was now inoperable following years of treatment, his love of biking and desire to help the hospital at which he has been treated have led to his plan to ride 5,000 miles around the coast of the UK. His Ride for Life aims to raise money for The Royal Marsden Hospital, London and tyre manufacturer Avon is clearly pleased that its tyres will be fitted to the Honda XLV1000 Varadero, on which he will complete epic journey. Snap-on has announced that it will sponsor WorldSkills London 2011, a world-leading vocational training event to be held at the ExCel centre in London from 5-8 October. Chris Behan, Snap-on Equipment’s general manager, comments: “We’re pleased to be supporting Snap-on’s sponsorship of WorldSkills London 2011, which will give contestants from across the globe the chance to put their skills to the test on the latest wheel alignment equipment. I believe that WorldSkills will provide our young people with an unrivalled opportunity to gain inspiration and insight into the vast range of worthwhile skill-based careers available in the motor industry and beyond.”
Staffordshire County Council has teamed up with Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Michelin Tyre Plc as part of the road safety initiative. Between them they have been handing out 10,000 cycle helmets – 7,000 to young people in Staffordshire and 3,000 to children in Stoke-on-Trent.
In addition 80 bikes have also been given away and pupils have been taking part in classroom based sessions and cycling activities to boost their confidence when they are out and about. Michelin is funding after a grant from the European Commission’s Road Safety for Young People in Europe.
The Radar tyre brand, alongside exclusive UK distributor Universal Tyres & Spares, has launched Mobilizing Hope in the UK following the breast cancer research fund raising initiative’s US launch in May. A brand belonging to Omni United, the Singapore-based tyre designer and marketer, Radar has committed a minimum annual donation of $250,000 to the BCRF, with the goal of raising $1 million over the next 12 months. The brand will donate $1 for each set of Radar tyres purchased by its distributors and tyre wholesalers. In addition to this incentive, Radar encourages dealers and wholesalers to establish matching donation programs; telling customers about Mobilizing Hope; displaying and distributing Mobilizing Hope marketing materials; and becoming Facebook friends of Radar Tyres and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. All of the brand’s tyres will have distinct labelling identifying the product as supportive of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Pirelli has donated items to a charity auction and held a donation-based simulator experience on its stand at Silverstone’s British Grand Prix, raising £6,386 for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. The auction was held on Wednesday 6 July at the F1 Party held at London’s Natural History Museum for the hospital’s Heart and Lung Centre, and Pirelli donated, among other things, a wind tunnel tyre signed by Britain’s last two Formula One World Champions: Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. Red Bull principal Christian Horner, BBC F1 presenter Jake Humphrey and man about town Vernon Kay were among those in attendance.
Ling Long Tyres has funded automotive industry charity BEN’s Henley Regatta celebration at the Lynwood Care Home, near Ascot. The event was attended by residents of the Home, the staff, and their families and friends, who, as Ray Diggins (BEN’s Head of Marketing) said: “always like to get involved”. Harjeev Kandhari, chief executive of the Al Dobowi Group and Jorge Crespo, European general manager of Eskay Tyres also attended the event.
Infinity Tyres has announced that it will provide the grand prize for this year’s auction at the NTDA’s Annual Dinner: a complete Formula One package in Abu Dhabi consisting of: two flight tickets, two nights in a hotel and two tickets to the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix. Richard Edy, the NTDA’s Director, described Infinity’s gesture as a “tremendous offer, stating that: “last year, the £1,600 raised by the auction of Infinity’s prize helped us raise more than £5,000 for BEN on the night and I anticipate that the bidding for this year’s donation by Infinity will be keen and competitive. It is a truly generous gesture by Infinity and a great package for whoever ends up as the highest bidder.”
Rob Northcott, head programmer at fast fit computer specialists Team Systems, has completed the demanding 50 mile Dartmoor Bicycle Challenge 2011 on a unicycle as part of a fund raising campaign for Cancer Research to support colleague Matt Bateman who is currently seriously ill with Hodgkin’s Lymphona.
Omni United has announced the start of its “Mobilizing Hope” year-long partnership with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) starting this month. Radar, the Singapore-based company’s flagship tyre brand, will donate 25 cents for each Radar tyre sold, with a committed minimum annual donation of $250,000.
Employees at Michelin's three UK sites put on beer goggles in a drink driving simulation, heard the results of a hidden speed camera exercise and enjoyed free tyre checks to mark the launch of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety initiative.
Staff at Michelin’s Stoke-on-Trent site got the opportunity on Wednesday 11 May to experience the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol via the combination of a Mario Cart Wii driving game simulator and a special pair of 'beer goggles' provided by Staffordshire County Council's road safety department.
Rob Northcott, head programmer at Team Systems, will be competing in the Dartmoor Cycle 2011 event on 22 May in support of Cancer Research UK. The event is organised by the Firefighters Fighting Cancer campaign and Northcott will be taking part in support of his colleague Matt Bateman, customer support manager at Team who is seriously ill with Hodgkins Lymphona in Derriford Hospital, Plymouth and is currently receiving chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.
Bridgestone is supporting a competition that sees primary schools up and down the country encourage potential car designers of the future to think creatively about the future of the environment and green transport. The Green Machine competition involves pupils designing a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly, futuristic vehicle which could be anything from cars, vans and trucks to motorbikes, aeroplanes and helicopters.
Olympic legend Denise Lewis met today with HiQ in her role as an Ambassador for Breast Cancer Care, Lewis extended thanks to HiQ and all its staff for their support. HiQ has supported Breast Cancer Care since 2009 in its first charity partnership and says it is on track to meet its fundraising target of £100,000 this year. HiQ says its staff have embraced the chance to don pink wigs and fundraise to help people affected by breast cancer. The money will be used to ensure Breast Cancer Care’s information and support services remain free to anyone who needs them.
