The closure is said to be due to the relative incompatibility of the building with the increasing frailty of residents and the infeasibility of improvements. The news was met with disappointment from sections of the tyre industry especially NTDA members in the North West, who have been particularly supportive of Alexandra House for decades. No decisions have yet been made about whether or not BEN will establise a replacement care home located in the North West or not.
The Maxxis Babes, the tyremaker’s promotional team of models, attended the Autosport International show at the NEC in January and £2,275 was generated from sales of their calendars. The money went directly to the charity dedicated to help anyone affected by cancer.
Zafco recently organized a 5K walkathon at Creek Park, Dubai for its employees and their families. The aim of the event was to raise awareness of Education with the theme: “E² – Education for Everyone”.
For the third year running, Pirelli supported the children’s ward at Queen’s Hospital in Burton. With the generosity of its employees, and the company itself, a total of £510 was raised to support the local hospital.
The funds were used to purchase a selection of much needed toys for the wards and for those children to enjoy that unfortunately spent Christmas day in hospital.

Mike Welch, the founder and CEO of Blackcircles.com and long-time supporter of adoption and fostering charities in Scotland and the UK is to receive the OBE.
Named in the Queen’s new year’s honours list, which was published on 30 December, Welch has been given the OBE for ”services to business and voluntary service to adoption and fostering”.
