Hannover-based Continental AG is a leading automotive supplier and – according to the company – is “the choice of leading car manufacturers, offering award-winning tyres that deliver responsive braking in all weather conditions.”
The winter tyre tests conducted by European motoring associations this year include several recommendable, solidly performing products, as well as a few poor results. Testers looked at 33 tyres in the small car size 185/65 R15 and SUV fitment 215/60 R16. Reporting the results, they particularly encourage buyers to “take a close look at braking distances and wear” before choosing a tyre.
Continental considers the Russian dandelion an attractive alternative source of natural rubber for its tyres and has conducted research into its suitability for more than a decade. This Taraxagum project now has a new research partner, German plant breeder Kartoffelzucht Böhm.
Everything revolved around Brabus vehicles on 20 August, when the 44th occurrence of the Conti Tuning Day was held. Continental employees in the company hometown of Hannover, Germany should have moved into their new headquarters some time back. When the topping-out ceremony took place at the end of 2019, the tyre maker and automotive supplier anticipated the building would be ready in time for its anniversary in 2021. But the pandemic upset these plans, and Continental announced a year ago that the new headquarters would open in summer 2022. We now know this didn’t happen.
Buyers of the VW Multivan who want all-season tyres can have these factory fitted, with the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK website listing these as an option when selecting either 16-, 17- or 18-inch rims. Continental shares that it is supplying its AllSeasonContact as an original equipment tyre for the Multivan in two key dimensions, 215/65 R16 102H XL and 235/55 R17 103H XL.
With the launch of its all-new Generation 5 Conti Hybrid tyre range, Continental seeks to equip regional haulage operators with the latest in tyre innovation and technology. First to arrive in the Generation 5 line-up are the Conti Hybrid HS5 for the steer axle in HS5 385/55 R 22.5 and HS5 315/70R22.5 and the Conti Hybrid HD5 for the drive axle in HD5 315/70 R 22.5. Further dimensions will join the range over the coming year.
Promising a “smooth ride and long service life despite heavy loads and abrasive surfaces,” Continental will debut the new LD-Master L5 Traction radial at the Bauma show in Germany this October. It will initially offer this latest addition to the ContiEarth range for loaders operating on abrasive surfaces in size 35/65 R33. In addition, Continental will present its EM-Master E3/L3 as a 65-series tyre for construction and surface applications at Bauma and also provide a sneak preview of a new solid skid steer tyre.
Cambridgeshire haulier G.Webb is trialling Continental’s new tyre pressure monitoring system platform, ContiConnect 2.0, fitting the latest upgrade to the majority of its fleet. The bulk haulage specialist is a long-term user of Continental Digital Solutions, and fleet engineering director Paul Broker has declared himself “a fan of the ContiConnect platform from the outset.” The new platform moves to the next step by introducing predictive maintenance, while also adding additional options via the app.
Continental Tyre South Africa is marking its 75th anniversary in South Africa with its sponsorship of Cars.co.za’s four-part ‘Continental Icons’ video series. Available on the Cars.co.za YouTube channel, one of the largest branded channels in South Africa with more than 320 000 subscribers, the videos highlight the tyre manufacturer’s original equipment heritage. The General Tire and Rubber Company South Africa was founded in January 1947 and acquired by Continental AG in 1998, after which it was renamed Continental Tyre South Africa. The company said the acquisition helped cement it as one of the country’s leading tyre manufacturers.
German tyre maker and automotive systems supplier Continental reports that it has “averted” a cyberattack on company IT systems. Continental says attackers “infiltrated parts” of its IT systems earlier this month but managed to avert the attack after detecting it. According to media reports, the attackers neither encrypted data nor demanded a ransom.
Mountain bike tyres from the Continental Gravity range have become the first products to feature responsibly sourced natural rubber from a project aimed at establishing sustainable natural rubber supply chains. Continental aims to achieve 100 per cent sustainable supply chains by 2050 at the latest, but is going one step further when it comes to natural rubber and intends to cover its entire demand exclusively through responsible sources by as soon as 2030.
Continental has launched the Matador Hectorra Van, and this successor to the MPS330 Maxilla 2 is distributed exclusively through Stapleton’s (Tyre Services) Ltd. retailers. Nine popular UK sizes are available.
Veronique Giraud recently succeeded Dalibor Kalina as general manager of Continental Tires (China). Effective August 2022, Giraud will lead the tyre manufacturer’s business development and strategic direction in the Chinese market.
On Sunday 21 August 2022, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution thanked its partners at Ford UK for the continuation of its “tide tracks” campaign raising awareness of key beach safety advice. For its part, Ford fitted custom tyres onto some lifeguard vehicles in order to leave key water safety messages pressed into the sand via bespoke tyre treads.
Mercedes-AMG is fitting 18-inch Continental SportContact 7 tyres to its C43 model. Designed for speeds of up to 186 mph and bearing the XL marking for enhanced load capacity, the tyres also carry the M01 sidewall marking, which appears on all the tyres specially developed for AMG. Continental developed this UUHP (Ultra Ultra High Performance) tyre specifically for vehicles with sporty attributes as well as for super sports cars.
