Hannover-based Continental AG is a leading automotive supplier and – according to the company – is “the choice of leading car manufacturers, offering award-winning tyres that deliver responsive braking in all weather conditions.”
Following an audit, Continental has given Pyrum Innovations unlimited delivery approval for recovered carbon black (rCB) supplied from its pyrolysis plant in Dillingen/Saar, Germany. Pyrum CEO Pascal Klein views this authorisation as “the cornerstone for a significant increase in sales next year.”
In addition to supplying EcoContact 6 Q tyres for factory fitment on the BYD Seal, Continental tyres are original equipment on the BYD Seal U. The electric SUV is available with Continental PremiumContact C – the ‘C’ standing for ‘Comfort’ – in size 235/50 R19 99V. According to Continental, this OE supply arrangement applies in “numerous countries” where the Seal U is sold.
Continental Tyres beat Bridgestone, Hankook, Marangoni, and Michelin to win the Tyre Industry Environmental and Sustainable Solution of the Year at the NTDA’s Tyre Industry Awards 2024. The award, presented at the Association’s 94th Annual Dinner, was decided by a panel of industry experts and recognises outstanding corporate social responsibility within the tyre industry. Conti said its achievement reflects the tyre manufactures ongoing commitment to driving sustainability across all of its operations – from enhancing the efficiency of its manufacturing processes and supply chain to developing innovative, eco-friendly materials.
When American Tire Distributors, Inc. (ATD) filed Chapter 11 on 22 October 2024, the large US tyre distributor did so for the second time in roughly six years. And it did so leaving tyremakers with north of US$589 million outstanding. If North America’s largest tyre brands weren’t nervous at this point, more than half of that will be connected to the balance sheet of just three tyremakers.
Brabus has chosen Continental tyres for a further member of its Rocket family. The new Brabus Rocket GTS, the tuner’s first supercar with a carbon-fibre shooting brake body, rides on Continental SportContact 7 tyres as original equipment. These are paired with Brabus Monoblock P Platinum Edition rims in size 275/35 ZR 21 at the front and 335/25 ZR 22 on the rear axle.
After conducting no less than six all-season and winter tyre tests in recent months, Auto Bild is well positioned to identify and acknowledge the tyre makers who have consistently produced safe, well-performing tyres. It has now done so, naming Pirelli its star amongst the all-season tyre makers for 2024/25 and Michelin the leading manufacturer of winter tyres. Continental and Goodyear also secure a podium place for both categories.
A new product for high-performance vehicles has joined the Continental winter tyre portfolio. From launch, the Continental WinterContact 8S will be available in fitments for 19- to 22-inch rim diameters and rated up to W, for speeds as high as 168 mph (270 km/h). All dimensions are EU tyre label ‘B’ rated for rolling resistance.
BMW Group has debuted the second generation of its BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, a car that, according to the manufacturer, sets “a new standard in the premium compact segment.” Order books are now open in the UK, with prices starting at £34,915 on the road. A range of summer and several winter tyres are approved for UK deliveries.
When Sportauto tested examined five brands of size 215/40 R18 summer tyres earlier this year, it tested them alongside an all-season model. This premium all-season product struggled against the summer tyres in temperatures well above the 20-degree mark, leading the motoring publication to conclude that “the all-season tyre is just a compromise” in summer conditions, especially when paired with sport cars such as the Hyundai i20 N it used for testing. Sportauto still holds this opinion, but it has now decided to test six of these “compromise” tyres – again in size 215/40 R18 – to answer a couple of important questions.

All-season tyres are becoming increasingly popular, especially among drivers of four-wheel drive vehicles who seek a reliable, weather-independent solution for their everyday journeys. But not every all-season tyre lives up to its promises. Auto Bild Allrad has tested ten tyre models in size 245/45 R18 to determine how they perform under various conditions, including snow, wet roads, and dry surfaces.
The latest upgrade to the Continental LODC simulation tool will provide aftermarket users with a product that more closely meets their requirements. On 11 October Lynk & Co unveiled its first electric vehicle for the European market, the Lynk & Co 02. The debut marks the first global launch of a new model for Lynk & Co. And what’s more the new car came out on Continental tyres.
The NTDA announced its 2024 Tyre Industry Awards winners on the evening of 10 October during the association’s sold-out 95th Annual Dinner, sponsored by long-term partner Maritime Cargo Services, in Milton Keynes. The awards ceremony was sponsored for the 10th consecutive year by tyre manufacturer Sailun, and co-hosted, by international ventriloquist, comedian and TV personality Paul Zerdin. The big winners on the night were Lodge Tyre Company, which scooped the overall retailer and staff training and development prizes, and Kirkby Tyres, which prevailed in both the wholesaler and truck and agri tyre distributor categories.
