When completed, Istanbul New Airport will be the largest airport in the world. At this point in time, however, the future airport is a 7,650-hectare building site, and Goodyear reports it is supplying tyres and support to more than 3,000 construction vehicles currently at work there.
Two new Continental tyres have made their global debut at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2017 show, which is taking place in Las Vegas, USA this week. These are the Telemaster and the EM-Master E3/L3.
Camso has announced a price increase averaging 8 per cent for all of its materials handling and construction tyres. The price increases, which come into effect on 1 April, will affect all aftermarket customers globally, but will vary depending on product line and regions. Camso attributes the increase to rising costs of raw materials.
Michelin Americas Truck Tires has introduced the Michelin X Works Z all-position heavy duty tyre for mixed on/off-road applications used in demanding environments.
According to the company, the tyre is designed to improve uptime with a 50 per cent wider protector ply and a thicker layer of cushion gum than leading competitors. Performance gains reportedly include a 5 per cent increase in mileage.
Maxam Tire International will exhibit its latest OTR, agricultural, industrial and construction product lines from its large stand in Hall 7 (7E19). While this positioning echoes the brand’s positioning two years ago at the last Essen event, much has since changed, with its head office moving to Birmingham and Sailun Europe head Martin West taking over as managing director. Maxam has also appointed new managers, who will attend the show.
Michelin has extended its range of robust X Works tyres for the construction sector, adding five new tyres to the line-up of rugged fitments. Available with immediate effect, the X Works range now boasts 315/80 R 22.5 X Works Z (multi-position) tyres, X Works D (drive axle) tyres, plus 385/65 R 22.5 X Works T (trailer axle) tyres. Michelin has renewed its tyre offer for a complete rig – steer, drive and trailer – in the market’s key sizes.
Mitas will unveil new High Capacity Municipal (HCM) tyres for urban use at Hanover’s Agritechnica show, the manufacturer has announced. Presenting the 540/80R38 HCM tyre as the first size representing Mitas’ future expansion into the municipal tyre segment, the company will host guests on stand E29 in Hall 3. The initial four sizes of Mitas HCM tyres will be available on the market in 1Q 2016.
Maxam has announced its strategic intent to grow global sales and market shares following completion of an intensive review of its operations. One result of this review has been the move of the operational support team from Luxembourg to Birmingham, where it will link up with the Sailun Jinyu European team, and stand in very close proximity to the nearby Sailun European Research and Development facility. In order to achieve its overall objective, the OTR tyre manufacturer has also planned number of initiatives.
Arminera 2015, the latest in a series of biennial mining exhibition, was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 5 to 7 May. The show was inaugurated in 1997 and is now the largest international, mining related exhibition in the country, with exhibitors showing a variety of vehicles, equipment, tools and the latest in mining technologies.
A leading UK distributor of OTR tyres has predicting sustained growth in the segment as the construction sector rallies with improved UK economy. Since the financial crash of 2008 the aftermarket OTR tyre sector has suffered from a severely contracted end-user market. House building, often seen as a barometer of the health of the sector, saw starts falling to record low levels and other major developments have been put on ice. Kings Road Tyres (KRT) says the upturn in domestic construction activity will support sales growth in its OTR tyre brands.
One of the leading UK wholesalers of OTR tyres in the UK, Kirkby Tyres claims to be the country’s largest stockholder in the OTR and construction tyre industry. The company expanded its facilities during 2014, with its Speke, near Liverpool, headquarters now measuring nearly 10 acres. Kirkby has grown with the support of its suppliers – in the OTR tyre segment, these brands include increasingly large players from Asia, Alliance, BKT and Double Coin. Kirkby says it has in recent years “progressively expanded” its range of OTR tyres and wheels, now offering an enormous and varied selection of radial and bias tyres for earthmovers and construction vehicles.
Growing manufacturer of off-the-road (OTR), industrial and truck tyres, the Magna Tyres Group used its presence at Intermat to introduce various new tyres for different OTR applications. For construction and mining purposes the company introduced MA10 L5 and M-Terrain E4. The existing tyre pattern MA08 L5 for wheel loaders is from April 2015 also available in tyre size 20.5R25.
Over the past 50 years, Luxembourg-based Maxam Tire has built up a reputation for the supply of quality, cost effective OTR radial, construction and industrial tyres, making a name for itself as a force in the off-the-road speciality tyre sector. At the start of 2015, the company broadened its product portfolio by offering the first of a new range of agricultural tyres; the Agrixtra MS951R. The new tyre is a radial, aimed at medium horsepower tractors and is available in nearly 40 sizes for rims from 24” up to 42”. It comes in aspect ratios of 85, 70 and 65 series, with the 65 series developed for applications at 65 km/h.
Mitas unveiled the newest addition to its family of ERL-30 earth-moving tyres at France’s Intermat show. The new 29.5R25 ERL-30 tyre will be available for worldwide sales early in June 2015. ERL tyres are used on loaders, dozers and graders in mining operations. The all-steel radial construction of Mitas 29.5R25 ERL-30 tyre is particularly designed for large wheel loaders such as Liebherr L 586 and Caterpillar 980. The Mitas ERL series features 12 various tyres of 28 to 90 mm tread depth.
Michelin has launched a guarantee on its on/off-road X Works commercial tyre range. The manufacturer says the guarantee is designed to protect customers from the financial risk of accidental tyre damage, while also underlining its confidence in the durability of the range.
