As reported on Tuesday, Yokohama Off-Highway Tires (YOHT) has opened its third factory in India. Yokohama Rubber has shared some additional details about the new plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, which alongside existing facilities in Dahej, Gujarat and Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu will produce YOHT’s core Alliance, Galaxy and Primex off-highway tyre brands.
Mitas has expanded its Grip’N’Ride range of construction tyres with a larger size tyre for wheeled and backhoe loaders. Announcing this new addition, Mitas shares that it designed the 21L – 24 IND tyre to deliver improved performance even on softer terrain. The tyre features strengthened sidewalls for greater durability when handling increased load capacity, a tread pattern that delivers increased grip, and self-cleaning properties.
RH Claydon leveraged its recently formed partnership with prominent construction tyre manufacturer Triangle at Hillhead, the UK’s largest quarrying, construction and recycling exhibition, in Buxton (21-2 June). The companies welcomed jointly visitors to their 70 square metre booth, showcasing a representative sample of Triangle’s broad portfolio of off-the-road specialist tyres.
The organisers of Hillhead 2022, a frequent meeting point for OTR tyre suppliers, have signalled the start of the countdown to the 21-23 June event with a bang. Carried out by EPC-UK, two sections of the quarry face in the Demonstration area at the north end of the site were recently drilled and blasted to produce around 30,000 tonnes of run-of-quarry stone for equipment demonstration purposes at this year’s show.
Off-highway tyre specialist BKT is reaching out to a younger demographic by opening its own TikTok channel. It launched tiktok.com/@bkt.tires in March and with it aims to gain the attention of Gen Z and Gen Alpha – the age groups representing “the future of agriculture and of our planet.”

Introducing its new partner, YOHT shares that Broson Wheels is the “market leader of the OE2 business and leading supplier of tyres, rims, wheels and accessories for off-highway vehicles in Sweden.”
Concrete supplier Anytime Concrete was fined on 29 October 2021 after an agency worker contracted to work at its site died following a tyre explosion in 2019. Dudley Magistrates’ Court heard how the contractor suffered fatal injuries when using an air hose/compressed air to inflate the tyre of an articulated wheel loader.
The Trelleborg Group has launched a new Mitas-branded excavator tyre. It says the EX-01 is the first Mitas radial for wheeled excavators and features a non-directional tread pattern and reinforced sidewall construction exclusively designed for dual mounting systems.

GRI Tires reports that the second phase expansion of its new production facility, which began in January 2021, is progressing well despite the challenges posed by the current lockdown in Sri Lanka. Trelleborg Wheel Systems has opened a new showroom that won’t be troubled by lockdowns or other unexpected disruptions. The new Trelleborg virtual showroom enables visitors to “enter the world of Trelleborg tyres to explore its products and smart solutions up close, at any time and in any place.”
GRI has laid the foundation stone for the second phase of its $100 million manufacturing facility in Badalgama, Sri Lanka. The plant, in the Mirigama Export Processing Zone will expand production of speciality tyres as global demand for its products grows. The company has been expanding rapidly since its $40 million-plus investment in the “world-class” manufacturing facility, inaugurated in 2018. Phase two will include a new mixing facility, expanding the original plant by the end of 2021.
During the last 18 years GRI has expanded significantly. Across the material handling, agricultural and construction segments, GRI now produces a total of 100 tonnes of tyres a day. Most recently the company added new mixing capacity in a bid to expand the company’s overall production output. So how does this particular action fit into the wider strategy?
