Aeolus announced a steer position addition to its winter tyre series at Reifen 2014. The new tyre lines up alongside the existing ADW80 for drive axles, which has itself been expanded to include new sizes.

Chris Smith appointed Michelin Tyre TBR tyre marketing head
Michelin Tyre has announced the appointment of Chris Smith, 31, to the position of head of truck and bus marketing, with responsibility for the UK and Ireland. Smith began his career at Michelin in 2007 as a truck sales account manager and subsequently became regional fleet account manager in 2009. He has taken up his new leadership position following three years as truck regional sales manager in the South East. Prior to joining Michelin, Smith was a sales executive with OyezStraker Office Supplies.
Henderson Group signs Kerr’s PPK contract
Northern Ireland tyre distributor Kerr’s Tyres has announced a new three year PPK deal with grocer Henderson Group. The deal will see Kerr’s Tyres supply, fit and maintain all Henderson tyres. The Group owns the Spar, Eurospar, Vivo and Vivoxtra franchises in Northern Ireland.
Conflicting views on higher speed limits for trucks
The Government has announced plans to raise the speed limit for lorries on single carriageway roads to 50 mph and the move has generated diametrically opposed views. On the pro side, Transport minister Claire Perry says that the move is part of a package of measures to cut congestion, reduce dangerous overtaking and help get the country moving. Brake, the road safety charity, has expressed serious concerns about the proposed limit increase and the announcement comes as a survey by Brake and Digby Brown solicitors reveals the extent of risky driving on country roads.
Goodyear Dunlop names new commercial segment communication manager
Mirko Kraus, who was previously responsible for commercial vehicle tyre media and public relations in Goodyear Dunlop’s ‘DACH’ markets – Germany, Austria and Switzerland – has been appointed the company’s new “Communications Manager Commercial PBU Europe, Middle East and Africa.” In his new role, Kraus extends his commercial segment responsibility to Goodyear Dunlop’s entire EMEA region.
Kings Road Tyres introduces Blacklion TBR
Leading UK commercial vehicle tyre wholesaler Kings Road Tyres (KRT) launched its latest addition to a portfolio of exclusive TBR tyre brands at its Reifen 2014 stand. It will distribute the Jinyu manufactured Blacklion brand in the UK exclusively, with stocks available from the third quarter of 2014, KRT says.
Pirelli launches commercial vehicle innovations at Reifen 2014
Pirelli launched its latest commercial vehicle tyre evolution of the Series:01 and a new range of Novatread tyres at Reifen, emphasising durability and safety. Compared to previous generation products, the new range of Pirelli truck tyres offer a longer tyre life, greater ease of rebuilding, and improved roadholding on both wet and dry surfaces, the manufacturer states.
Techking displays 2nd generation OTR tyres
Techking made its fifth appearance at Reifen in 2014, with a stand in Hall 3 showing its OTR, TBR and PCR tyre lines. In the OTR segment Techking displayed its Generation II Proadt, Etcrane and Snowking products. The company says that longevity has been the key improvement for its Generation II products; the tyres can now reach 90 per cent of that of a tier one brand tyre, Techking claims, adding up ultimately to a lower total cost of ownership.
Roadways renews Tyrenet fleet management contract
UK multimodal transport and container handling specialist Roadways Container Logistics has renewed its contract with Tyrenet. The decision follows a one year trial with the network of independent tyre service providers. Roadways’ fleet of 900 truck and trailer units will be managed by Tyrenet for the next two years under the terms of the contract.
Goodyear launching upgraded eCasing system
A rollout of a new version of Goodyear’s eCasing system has begun. The tyre maker describes the new version of its web-based commercial vehicle tyre casing management system as “improved” and says it will be progressively introduced throughout Europe. The UK will be one of the first markets to receive the new system.
Nokian introduces 2 new Hakkapeliitta Truck D sizes
2014 marks the 80th anniversary of the Nokian Kelirengas winter truck tyre, and the manufacturer has introduced two new sizes of its latest winter TBR model, the Hakkapeliitta Truck D. In addition to the existing size of 315/80R22.5, the sizes 295/80R22.5 and 315/70R22.5 will be available at the end of the summer of 2014.
Falken Tire Corp to phase out Ohtsu truck tyres in USA
Falken Tire Corp., a unit of Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd., will phase out the Ohtsu brand name for commercial tyres in the US market, Tire Review reports. The company will re-introduce it to the market as an associate brand for its passenger and light truck tyre lines. US distribution of Ohtsu CV tyres, a fellow Sumitomo brand, was brought under the control of Falken Tire Corp. in 2009.
GT Radial launches long haul steer, winter truck and bus tyres
GT Radial’s Hall 3 stand at Reifen 2014 hosted the launch of two new products alongside the already announced GSR225 Combi Road multi-use tyre. The GTL925 low platform trailer tyre and the GSW226 steer axle winter tyre are both being shown for the first time at Europe’s largest tyre fair.
GT Radial Combi Road TBR tyre to make European show debut at Reifen 2014
GT Radial’s latest commercial tyre all-rounder will receive its European show debut at Reifen 2014, with two new products to be unveiled. The GSR225 Combi Road multi-usage tyre has specially developed tread and base compounds to improve mileage and a wider tread pattern to deliver improved handling and extra resistance to tearing and curbing, making it appropriate for a wide variety of regional and long-haul vehicles. GT Radial products will be exhibited on Hall 3, stand B16.
Bridgestone sees 42% increase in CV Show visitors
Bridgestone’s stand at the 2014 edition of the CV Show reflected the prevailing opinion that this year showed an upturn in attendance. The tyre manufacturer, exhibiting its Total Tyre Life, Total Tyre Services and Total Tyre Systems tyre management components, said it saw a 42 per cent increase in visitor numbers on the previous year’s event. Bridgestone said that it hoped to convert the additional exposure of its Total Tyre Care package into increased business.
