Customers shopping in LKQ Euro Car Parts branches have collectively donated more than £10,000 to automotive industry charity, BEN, by adding £0.25 to their total when they check out. The funds have been raised via a new partnership with Pennies, an award-winning provider that gives people the option to make digital ‘micro-donations’ when paying by card, as a way of encouraging them to give to good causes.

Transaid ambassadors Guy Heywood (Hankook) and Marcio Bonifacio (Z Tech Control Systems) are determined to raise vital funds for the charity despite the pandemic-enforced postponement of two major cycling events. The pair will complete the planned 507km route of the 2020 Transaid Malawi Challenge virtually between Wednesday 9 and Sunday 13 September. They will use SMART bike trainers and the Zwift cycling app from their homes in Frankfurt and Cambridge to simulate 10km of climbing and between 15 and 18 hours of riding. Heywood told Tyres & Accessories that the pair are trying to raise enough in sponsorship to buy two cycle ambulances or to fund a health care worker in Africa for one year. Bridgestone EMIA has become the official European tyre partner of motorcycle charity event, The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR). The global event brings together riders’ passion for classic style bikes and men’s health charity Movember, for which it raises funds. DGR will hold its first-ever solo edition on Sunday 27 September 2020. In 2019 the event brought together 116,000 motorcyclists across 100 countries. Welcoming Bridgestone’s support, DGR founder Mark Hawwa explained why the ride was urgently needed.
Hankook Tyre UK has renewed its partnership with the Air Ambulance Service, first established with the first sets of tyres supplied in 2017. The tyre manufacturer provide tyres for its Rapid Response Critical Care car fleet, which supports its helicopter fleet, throughout 2020. Since the partnership began, the Air Ambulance Service have been able to switch to operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and have extended their car fleet with the addition of two new Škoda Kodiaqs.

The Covid-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the world economy and had serious consequences on a regional level, which has also affected many communities.
Michelin staff have produced thousands of protective face masks at a temporary manufacturing centre in Stoke-on-Trent. The masks have been used to keep colleagues, customers, and the community safe in the Covid-19 pandemic. The Michelin Athletic Club, close to its factory and office, housed volunteers and furloughed staff producing the masks following extensive training.
Prometeon Tyre Group is donating one euro for each tyre sold in Europe in May to the International Committee of the Red Cross’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of its Together initiative, Prometeon has invited suppliers, customers and its staff to donate as well. Furthermore, Prometeon will match its suppliers’ contributions.
Automotive industry charity Ben says the number of people seeking its support for mental health and money concerns has increased. Wheely-Safe has announced a new initiative with industry charity, Brake. It pledges to make a cash donation for every van, bus, coach or truck displaying a ‘Wheely-Safe fitted’ vinyl graphic, highlighting its protection using the firm’s latest generation tyre and wheel safety technology. Wheely-Safe will gift £5 for every light commercial vehicle (LCV) and £10 for every heavy goods vehicle (HGV) or public service vehicle (PSV) carrying the sticker, which it will supply with all new systems.
Kwik Fit has raised £1 million for its first selected charity of the year, Children with Cancer UK. The UK’s leading charity dedicated to the fight against cancer in children and young people was chosen following a vote open to more than 5,000 Kwik Fit employees across the UK last year.
Devon General Tire Performance Partner, TyreMarks of Tavistock, is supplying volunteer-led Dartmoor Search & Rescue Team with 4×4 and SUV tyres. General Tire and TyreMarks have provided a set of Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyres to the search and rescue team to ensure they can carry out their work safely, responding to emergencies on the wild and remote uplands of Dartmoor. It has also saved the team hundreds of pounds in charitable donations that are used to fund the service.
