PCL 85th anniversary with charity bike ride

To celebrate 85 years of business, the team at Sheffield-based PCL got on their bikes to raise over £3,000 and counting for the NSPCC. The challenge was to cycle a 500km relay in just 90 minutes and the team clocked up an impressive 609km within the timeframe – more than tripling their initial fundraising target of £1,000 in the process. So far, the JustGiving page has raised £3,424, with donations still coming in for the team’s celebratory ride for the UK’s leading children’s charity.

Denso and its customers raise £2,599 for Ben

On Monday, 5 June, as part of its ongoing 50 years in Europe celebrations, the Denso UK team invited a selection of its key customers to enjoy a golf orientated event at The Belfry, one of the most prestigious golfing venues in the UK. “The theme of the day was teamwork and the importance of aligning the objectives and relationships of the whole supply chain,” explained Denso’s UK and Eire sales manager, Kevin Peacocke. “To this end, as well as direct customers, the team were joined by service suppliers, representatives of OESAA and their garage forum and senior managers from within Denso. In addition however, we also wanted to raise funds for the important work that Ben does to help industry colleagues in need.

Hankook Tyre UK partnered EG Wholesale, one of the ten members of independent tyre wholesaler Grouptyre, for its annual charity golf day at Goodwood Golf Club in West Sussex on 18 May 2023. Attending were 48 representatives from the tyre and motor industry in twelve teams of four, including two teams from Hankook’s UK operation. The tyre manufacturer presented each golfer with a sleeve of Titleist golf balls, golf tees, scorecard holder and baseball cap.

Transaid announces 2024 Cycle Kenya Challenge

Transaid is returning to Africa for its 11th cycle challenge on the continent and is calling on keen riders to take part in a six-day, 474km ride across majestic Kenya – where Transaid is currently undertaking a major project funded by the FIA Foundation. Taking place from 4 – 13 October 2024, the international development organisation invites riders from across the transport and logistics industry on this one-of-a-kind adventure, where they’ll travel from Nyeri at the foothills of Mount Kenya to Lake Victoria – all on two wheels.

Transaid set to continue motorcycle helmet safety project in Kenya

Transaid has secured an extension of its work funded by global road safety philanthropy the FIA Foundation, to lead the second phase of a project to establish a National Helmet Wearing Coalition in Kenya, using its extensive experience in motorcycle and motorised three-wheeler safety. Priorities for a new 13-month term are to secure the long-term future of the Coalition and cement Kenyan ownership of this initiative, whilst strengthening the implementation of the existing Kenyan Helmet Standard through improved enforcement capacity.

LKQ Euro Car Parts makes further Ukraine donation

LKQ Euro Car Parts

LKQ Euro Car Parts is continuing its support for Ukraine and this time has been able to hand over the donation in person as Sisters from the Congregation of St Joseph in Ukraine visited its headquarters in Tamworth. The company has been supporting Ukraine since the start of the conflict last February. To date it has raised enough money to buy and deliver seven ambulances to the Congregation, who have then sent these to hospitals across the country.

Continental recycles Extreme E tyres into basketball court

Continental is donating rubber paving stones made from recycled Extreme E tyres for the construction of a community basketball court in Hanover. According to Continental, 200 Extreme E tyres have been recycled from the first season. The Extreme E tyres underwent “a particularly complex manufacturing process to extract all chemical components from the tyres” before transforming them into paving stones. Now the tyres will be given a second life as the foundation of a high-level basketball court.

Special Forces duo scale 6,812m peak in Nepal to honour Remembrance Day

SAS: Who Dares Wins’ Ollie Ollerton and Nirmal ‘Nims’ Purja, star of Netflix’s 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, reached the summit of Ama Dablam in Nepal ahead of Armistice Day on 11th November. The pair, both former Special Boat Services operatives, led an expedition up the 6,812m-high Nepalese mountain, accompanied by other former Special Forces soldiers and Royal Marines Commandos. The group climbed the mountain to honour the many British service personnel who have given their lives in conflict and in support of the Royal British Legion. Ollie Ollerton has been supported by Davanti Tyres’ all-terrain tyre – the Terratoura – during his training in the run-up to the expedition.

Transaid cycle challenge raises £205,000

A team of 40 riders drawn from the transport and logistics industry have completed a 505km cycle challenge across southern Malawi in soaring temperatures, pedalling through the spectacular Liwonde National Park to raise more than £205,000 towards Transaid’s projects in sub-Saharan Africa. The remarkable sum of money adds to the £25,000 raised by the 16 riders who took on Hadrian’s Cycleway over two days in September. Combined, the non-restricted funds will be used by Transaid to focus on improving road safety and increasing access to healthcare in rural communities.
