Transaid has secured a valuable Movement for Good Award from the Benefact Group, which it will deploy to help save lives by ensuring Ghana’s professional road transport sector continues to grow in a safe and sustainable way. The undisclosed sum forms part of a share of £500,000 being donated by Benefact Group to help charities make a real difference. Transaid joined more than 900 charities applying for the funding after an introduction from the Road Haulage Association, whose insurers, Lloyd White, are part of the Benefact Group.
Kwik Fit has chosen Air Ambulances UK (AAUK), the organisation that champions and supports the lifesaving work of the UK’s 21 air ambulance charities, as its national charity partner. Through Air Ambulances UK, Kwik Fit will raise funds for all 21 regional charities as well as help increase local and national awareness of their essential missions.

The news coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. The UK Garage and Bodyshop Event (UKGBE), presented by Automechanika Birmingham, will participate in this year’s Bangers4Ben rally. Its team, dubbed the Dublin Driving Dolls, will travel 1,500 miles across Ireland over four days (7-10 October) alongside other entrants in their very own ‘bangers’, all of which cost less than £750. The rally will cross the Irish Sea from Holyhead to Dublin, hitting the winding roads of Ireland, before completing the tour back in Dublin and the ferry back to Britain. UKGBE has partnered with LKQ Euro Car Parts and established aftermarket business owners Louise Baker and Rachel Murray on its entry.
A team of 40 riders drawn from across the transport and logistics sector have completed a 187-mile cycle ride from London to Paris to raise funds for Transaid’s work in sub-Saharan Africa, which is focused on improving road safety and access to health for rural communities. Upon reaching the French capital on 24 September the group had already raised more than £65,000 before costs, with fresh sponsorships still coming in. This has been aided by generous funding from headline sponsor uTrack Software, and support sponsor DP World.
Glen Callum Associates (GCA) has launched a team effort to complete Benathlon, a 30-day challenge encouraging participants to exercise for 30 minutes every day for the 30 days of September. Benathlon is an event organised by mental health charity Ben, which is dedicated to supporting employees within the automotive industry and their families. Ben works with automotive professionals to improve their lives by enhancing their health and wellbeing through its free and confidential helpline and support services.
The Tyre Shop recently held its annual charity golf day in aid of Corbets Tey School for children with special needs in Upminster, Essex. The Tyre Shop raised over £20,000 for the school on the day, having raised over £200,000 in the 17 years it has been helping the school.
National motor factor GSF Car Parts and final-mile delivery specialists Delivery Mates are partnering for a unique challenge to raise awareness and money for the automotive industry charity BEN. A team of six riders from GSF and Delivery Mates will complete a three-day rally on electric motorbikes, visiting 15 GSF branches along the way. The rally will begin at Midpoint, GSF’s National Distribution Centre in Birmingham, and conclude at its Chester Support Office in the north west.
Joint venture Hamaton Ltd and Tyresure TPMS is supporting Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People as its chosen charity partner. Rainbows Hospice offer support for over 300 babies, children and young people living with serious and terminal conditions in the East Midlands. Simply put, they’re there to help brighten short lives, and support families, wherever they are.
Yokohama Rubber’s Yokohama Magokoro Fund is getting involved in relief efforts after the wildfires in Hawaii, USA. Specifically, the employee-backed Yokohama Magokoro Fund will donate a combined ¥1 million (¥500,000 each from the company and the fund) through the Japanese Red Cross Society to support relief efforts in the affected region.
To raise money for Cancer Research’s Business Beats Cancer, a charity very important to many people at Ring, the team has decided to brave the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge on 14 September. More than 15 team members at Ring are taking part in the Three Peaks challenge in Yorkshire, which will see them climb the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres), all of which need to be completed within 12 hours. Overall, the challenge will see the team take on 40km of walking and 5,200ft of ascent.
Hankook Tyre UK is sponsoring the Open Day that will take place on Friday 4 August to celebrate 20 years of the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. Entry to the event at Chester House Estate in Northamptonshire is free and it will feature stalls, activities, music and entertainment as well as a chance to get better acquainted with the service’s helicopter, provided it isn’t called out on mission.
To celebrate 85 years of business, the team at Sheffield-based PCL got on their bikes to raise over £3,000 and counting for the NSPCC. The challenge was to cycle a 500km relay in just 90 minutes and the team clocked up an impressive 609km within the timeframe – more than tripling their initial fundraising target of £1,000 in the process. So far, the JustGiving page has raised £3,424, with donations still coming in for the team’s celebratory ride for the UK’s leading children’s charity.
