C-Tyres Ltd, the UK-based manufacturer of the Colway and Greenway brands of retread tyres, points out that more and more off-road enthusiasts enjoy the C-Trax Mud Terrain tyres, with an increasing number of 4×4 users who predominantly drive “off-road” opting for Greenway specialist off road tyres.
Following Tyres & Accessories’ initial coverage of the news in June, C-Tyres has provided more information about its pioneering range of Colway run-flat retreads. The recent launch has further highlighted C-tyres’ position as a market leader within its industry segment, and shows the company’s commitment to product innovation.
The run-flats are said to have been manufactured “with the driver in mind” and are made using only “quality first-life casings,” company representatives report. This casing selection strategy is said to ensure the Colway run-flat is “up there with the very best,” but at a fraction of the cost of a new tyre.
Steinbichler Optotechnik has almost two decades of experience in optical metrology and is a leading supplier of shearography tyre test systems. In recent years, shearography has become an indispensable tool for retreaders inspecting casings and in quality control testing at new tyre plants.
With the ban on land filling tyres currently taking effect, F V Evans (New Zealand) and their UK agent Ecosystem Ltd have chosen to introduce their Evashred range of tyre recycling equipment to the UK. Evashred are launching two machines on the UK market, the EV60 with 600mm cutting width for shredding car tyres and the EV110 with 1100mm wide cutting width for shredding truck tyres.
Slovakian tyre manufacturer Matador has decided to extend the warranty on its casings to a second tyre life when its products are retreaded by a Bandag Dealer in Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic. Matador now recommends Bandag for the second life of its casings.
The collaboration with Bandag dealers streamlines the truck-tyre division of the Púchov-based manufacturer. Matador and Bandag have been operating in the same Eastern European countries for many years, going to market with complementary products and skills. The extended casing warranty for Bandag retreading is a logical next step towards providing end-users with cost-effective tyre solutions.
Based at Vilnius, in Lithuania, Bandag Dealer Guminta UAB held an open house on 31st March to inaugurate its new sales outlet in the port city of Klaipeda, some 300 km to the west of the capital. The new premises enables the company to gain better penetration into the western regions of Lithuania, bringing tyre products and services much closer to a large proportion of the fleet customer base, while reducing delivery costs at the same time.
The main event at the open house event was the signing of Guminta’s franchise agreement with Bandag for the next five years. Guests of honour at the signing were Mike Tirona, Vice President and General Manager, Bandag EMEA and the main shareholder of Guminta, Mr Valdemaras Zakarauskas.

Bridgestone UK will use the Commercial Vehicle show in April to launch a new, long-distance steer tyre, the R249, and a new range of Truck Point retread tyres.
The R249, for trucks of 16 tonnes and heavier, has been designed following a study of nearly 1,000 fleets operating in six major European markets. Reliability and mileage proved to be the main criteria for fleets, followed by traction/grip, fuel efficiency and comfort. Cost per kilometre is assuming ever-greater importance.
Swedish company Hedbergs has been in the tyre business for over 50 years and started retreading tyres as early as 1958. In 2001 the company decided to switch to the Bandag retreading process.
Demand for Bandag retreads grew rapidly from the outset, propelling production at the Hedbergs shop to maximum capacity in just three and a half years. One of the reasons for this was the opening of the Öresund Bridge between Copenhagen and Malmö, in 2000.
Barking based G&S Tyre Services has suffered a “serious” fire in which the company lost between 7000 and 8000 casings. However despite the serious nature of the fire, no injuries have been reported and sales manager Jim Bowley has reported that it is “business as usual” for the company. About 80 fire fighters were called to the company’s Kingsbridge Road site in the early hours of 12 November.
DFDS, the Danish road transport giant, has ordered 1,000 new trailers from German company Bernard Krone GmbH to be delivered over the next 18 months. The trailers will be fitted with 6,000 Bandag retreads as original equipment, manufactured by Bandag dealers in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, the UK, Czech Republic and Hungary.
This year Cheshire-based casing dealership, Global Remould Services, is celebrating its first decade in business. Much has changed since the beginning. 10 years ago the company turned over £180,000 worth of casing sales. Now annual turnover is almost 20 times that size (roughly £3.5 million). When a casing dealership grows this much, it is important that it also owns it own fleet. That’s why last year Global Remoulds purchased a tractor unit and three trailers to assist in the transportation of the 100,000 tyres that the company handles each year.
Recycling has not only become more important to the public, but to the tyre industry too. Tyre recycling has a lucrative future, and tyre shredding is fast becoming a money-spinner for those companies involved. The choice of tyre shredding and recycling equipment manufacturers and distributors is growing, as is the range of casing collection services throughout the industry.
“However, it is one thing to realise the potential of this market but quite something else to actually set up a business that will evolve into a successful and lucrative service,” says Bob Batchford of RJB County Contractors. This is why the company has recently established a new division within the business, RJB Consultancy, to provide a service to both new and established businesses on how to achieve financial reward from tyre recycling.
Although there is a world wide shortage of earthmover tyres, Heuver Banden has managed to supply its customers with either new EM tyres or retreads of its private brand “Maxfield”. In the event that these sources cannot satisfy demand, the company can also supply used EM tyres. “By means of our many good contacts on the market we are able to buy big quantities of EM tyres and sell them ex stock,” the Dutch wholesaler based in Den Ham writes. “If we haven’t got the right tread then, it is almost always possible to offer an alternative.” The global scarcity of new EM tyres has mainly been caused by enormous demand from China. This in turn obviously increases the demand for retreaded earthmover tyres considerably. And this is where Heuver Banden’s private brand Maxfield is said to pay off. Maxfield tyres are “retreaded EM tyres in OEM quality.” All Maxfield tyres come with a two-year guarantee and are available in almost all major sizes. Casings for the production of Maxfield tyres are bought internationally, according to the company.
